MI Shoutout to the smaller city protests

I know the news is focused on the major cities, but I wanted to shout out my appreciation to the smaller cities and towns who had protests today. We hear you and see you. Thank you for standing up today!

MI Attended a protest today in Boyne City, Michigan! Since I didn’t seen any in Petoskey.

I and my mother & brother were so happy to be able to go out and protest with like-minded people. As a young trans and queer person, I was floored to see how many of these protesters were older. Since, normally, when I’ve been to protests, it’s been more of the younger generations and the older folks have been with the MAGA Mango Menace’s cuckoo crowd of protests. So, it warmed my heart to be able to stand next to boomers, Gen X, millennials, and some from my generation in solidarity.

We all did get called the N-word by some white boys in a dark pick-up during the protest. Mature, I know. How attractive. We saw the same cybertruck around as we marched. Some cars followed in support. We had some hecklers and were yelled at by passing cars and flipped off a few times, but overall, it was nice to be out and about with these people. It’s the first time I’ve felt a spark of energy in a long time. I love attending things like this. I was told by a few of the elder folks there that they were glad to see young folks out protesting. Everyone was very sweet.

Honestly, it’s made me rethink some stuff because some of these people were dressed in camo, wearing fire dept stuff, very traditionally red neck stuff that I’d mainly associate with the cuckoo MAGA people. So, I get naturally anxious when I see camo, plaid, deer, American flags, ball caps, pickup trucks, etc. I gotta work on not immediately judging/being fearful of someone if they wear stuff like that. Since I stood by people that I’d honestly probably assume were conservative.

So, that’s honestly why I love attending these so much. I see so many people of a certain mindset that I’d never think would share one similar to mine. Again, everyone was so sweet. A lady in a wheelchair was saying that she’d race a cybertruck and probably last longer than it. Lmaoo.

We initially expected around 6 or 19 people to show up but instead, around 60+ came. Which, for a small ass town in rural Northern Michigan where there’s a lot of white supremacists and Trumpers, that’s a lot of people. Lol.

Anyways, so, that’s how my protest day went. I hope everyone’s day went well too!!

I know I really can’t type this all out in a bunch of sentences. However these are photos I managed to get to the protest that happened earlier today in my town.

I am genuinely shocked and proud of the amount of people who came out today and spoke up.

(By the way in the second photo I drew that sentence.)

Had an amazing time at Handsoff in Troy Mi. Some take aways as we move forward..Everyone wanted to chant but we didn’t have one. We need one person to lead these chants. We tried a few different ones but without a leader it was hard to sustain. Let’s plan for this for the next one!

The absolute variety of people who came out really spoke to me today; older folks, queer folks, wheelchair users, veterans, creative sign makers, protestor puppies! It is really encouraging to feel safe and to see the support in our little community

Before the event started, maybe 1/3 of the total crowd. Lots of honking and cheering from drivers while we marched. I managed to get a photo of State Rep Erin Byrnes before the march but couldn't get a good photo of US Rep Rashida Tlaib.
