Corporations Hello MapQuest, my old friend

Post image

I stole this from a meme on Instagram but just downloaded the app and it’s still there! Google and Apple both caved. Let’s bring this relic back!

Maps detailed at door-to-door level require full books of maps in metropolitan areas. Not sure they even make those any more. The ol' map in the glove compartment doesn't cover it.

Source: Old person who used to have book maps and knew how to read them, turning page after page while following the route north, south, east or west.

For people in cities, if we're going back to paper maps, businesses will need to staff up and hire an extra person who gives directions over the phone and in person for people to find their way to their next destination.

I used to have one of those "Street Finder" maps for urban areas. Something-Brothers, can't remember the name. Yes, you had to first find the street in the index and then if the street was long, flip through a few pages to follow it to where you needed to go.

I have to say, GPS is one of the modern technological features that I most appreciate and find useful, but before I had it, I still managed to travel, live in different places, visit plenty of places, etc. Using paper maps is more of a skill, but everyone still got to where they needed to go.

Thomas brothers.

I learned to read maps while flipping through my dad's Thomas brothers on road trips.

When I got my license he got me my own. I kind of wish I still had one.
