Corporations Hello MapQuest, my old friend

Post image

I stole this from a meme on Instagram but just downloaded the app and it’s still there! Google and Apple both caved. Let’s bring this relic back!

I forgot it existed. Nice to finally get rid of Google.

Actually a good option for a degoogled android because of r/GrapheneOS

And calyxos.org, works great and is a little more user-friendly than grapheneos.

how? as far as i know it uses microg instead of a sandbox which offers an objectively worse user experience

2

u/Losconquistadores Feb 15 '25

They're both fine. With microg whether a worse experience or not it does offer a way to keep connected to certain Play services for users that may want or need it.

hmm it sounds like you don't know about the sandboxed google play services in grapheneos: https://grapheneos.org/features#sandboxed-google-play

Thanks, been a few years since I evaluated them and rocked a calyx pixel. Looking to get back in will try graphene,  cheers

or LineageOS if you aren't a massive privacy freak but still care about it somewhat

A refurbished Pixel was the best anti-Google purchase I ever made, Graphene is amazing

Eh, just do what you can. I'm fairly deep into the Google hole as well, unfortunately. I've setup my Google Home to control my indoor lights, but at least I can do away with their products that are easily replaceable.

A smartphone is unfortunately a necessity for most people, and buying something new just to replace something that works perfectly fine is completely against what this sub stands for.

Whole Foods wouldn't hire anyone without one

He’s already consumed, you’re asking him to make that consumption meaningless.

Do you really think spending another thousand dollars on a phone is somehow anti-consumer?

1

u/errorgiraffe Feb 15 '25

I think you're seeing this as a black and white issue. There are ways to no longer support these companies while also balancing it with anti consumption. Rarely are things black and white.
