Question on job interviewing - illegal to tell a person they'll only be considered for a job if they spend their own time/money on it?

Upvotes

I mentioned this in another post and there was a question about the legality. This is not advice for me or anyone I know, just an anecdote I talked about where legality came into question.

Basically in California, a guy I knew interviewed for a job in where he was told to be considered for it, he would be expected to join the team at Disneyland once a month. Paid for out of his pocket (park ticket and travel) and during the weekend when he wasn't going to get paid. He was also expected to spend his lunch hour, again unpaid, with the team every day.

Obviously there are protections with protected classes during the hiring process, and you can ask arbitrary questions like "Do you like puppies?" during an interview. But is it legal to say during an interview, either outright or implied, that you'll be needing to spend your own money and unpaid time if you want to be considered for the job?

NAD+ If we were to completely reverse aging, it would be possible to lower the age of identity

Upvotes

NAD+ Scientists have been working with all their might for a very long time on reversing aging. As far as I understand, in the future, when it will be possible for people who could not live well between the high school age of 14-17, who could not find love or sexual experience in real life, to go back to the past by completely reversing aging, especially for those who say "I am crying because I could not live my youth" in their past, will reversing aging be possible under the control of the state? Thus, the state will be required to be aware of the situation if people want to regress to any age, because your legal age on your ID card will have to match your biological and mental age. In other words; Let's say you go from 25 to 14, then your age on your ID will be affected by this situation. In addition, your birth date will be changed accordingly and you will be assumed to have been born in that year according to your new birth date. I support this.

Are legal employees following this agenda? What are the views?

Why is there no system around the world where the age of majority is determined by families?

Upvotes

Why do I support this?

1) The state cannot know or recognize your child/daughter. As a father and mother, you, the parents, can best decide the mental, psychological and neurological health conditions of your child and how old they can be mentally depending on genetic, cultural and environmental factors. Because naturally, you have spent years taking care of your children.

2) Based on the DSM-5 and ICD-11 Mental Diagnosis Book, families should decide at what age their young people should be an adult. This is not known by the state and the law, but by families because families can decide at what age their daughters and sons are ready for a relationship. In this case; According to DSM-5 and ICD-11, people under the age of 14 are defined as children, while those aged 14 and over are defined as young adults/adolescents. In other words, families will have the authority to decide at what age their daughters and sons should be an adult starting from the age of 14.

3) Some people mature later in their mental life and therefore not everyone is mature enough to take on legal responsibility as soon as they turn 18. In this case, if some families feel that their daughter needs to be protected, then they may decide that her daughter should be an adult after the age of 20 or 25. After all, after the age of 14-16, some people have sufficient capacity to give consent, while others do not. No one is equal and for this reason I support a more humane and modern system to better defend human rights, disability rights, etc. Just like Norway. Norway is the best country in the world that I can see.

Emigration Consultation - Help

Upvotes

** I AM NOT SEEKING A DIRECT CONSULTATION HERE **

Hello, thanks for taking the time!

I have a somewhat unique situation that requires professional expertise.

I am currently a citizen of USA, but I am eligible to apply for Slovakia or Czechia under their Citizenship by Descent mandate. This is through my great grandmother, of which they are one of the few that allows up to 4th Gen eligibility.

The trouble is, I am missing a crucial piece of the application: her original birth certificate; of which, I can only assume, is hopefully stored in some dusty annals in a city center in Slovakia.

She was born in a small village in Czechoslovakia, I believe called Zuluzeny or some sort, now located in Slovakia, and came here as a refugee of WW1 at 4 years old in 1912.

I have found the documents pertaining to her application for US citizenship in her 30s, marriage to my great grandfather, birth and orphanage and eventual adoption of my grandfather, the ship manifest listing her and her mother as passengers (her father came separately before or after their arrival).

I have my birth certificate, my mother's original, and my grandfather's original.

The application requires filling out questions, providing the original birth certs., as well as any other relevant documents that link family such as the relevant marriage records, and having it all translated into Slovakian, notarized, and delivered to the capital. I think.

This is way more info than you need, I'll wrap up.

Essentially, I'm running into the trouble of not only WHERE to find her original birth cert., but furthermore I can't even find a lawyer to consult with. Im not having much luck finding one who handles much to do with emigration rather than immigration, and the embassy is useless, when I can even get ahold of them.

Im quite confident I won't be able to just show up in Slovakia without an idea of a plan, and beyond that I don't know where to search.

What should I do, who can I call, where do I go?

Is there a certain amount of time someone has to be away to reset the time period that could establish residency?

Upvotes

If staying somewhere for 30 days gives a person tenants rights, is there a specific amount of time that person would have to stay somewhere else that would reset the 30 day clock?

If I stay somewhere for 20 days, how long would I have to be somewhere else before that 20 days no longer counts?

Lawyers & Paralegals: What’s the most annoying, repetitive task you wish you could automate?

I’m building an AI tool specifically for law firms—solo and small shops.
Been interviewing lawyers and I keep hearing the same things:

  • Wasted time chasing unqualified leads
  • No-show consults
  • Manually following up with every intake
  • Repeating the same replies over and over again

If you could press a button and eliminate the 2–3 most painful tasks in your firm, what would they be?

Trying to get raw input from the trenches so I can build something that actually saves you hours—not just adds dashboards.

Would seriously appreciate your thoughts.

Can you drive without a physical license?

I’m not asking about no drivers license or suspended license, but what you misplaced your wallet, but needed to drive?

Can you explain to the officer that you misplaced it, and give identification a different way (like full legal name, address, date of birth) and can they look you up?

Is there such a thing as legal recourse for someone creating fumes in your apartment?

Location: MI, USA. This seems like such a nebulous issue that is even hard to prove in court. I live in Michigan and a neighbor in a multi-family unit I live in is woodworking in our shared driveway without any dust collection equipment. This has created so much dust in the air around our dwelling that I have started getting migraines and a sore throat. Is there any legal recourse for someone in a multi-family unit exposing you to toxic fumes or do you just need to move? I don’t even know where to begin with this issue I could speak to my landlord but other than that is there any legal action you can take against an individual creating a health hazard in your space. I am totally in the dark here. The legal general knowledge I am asking you lawyers for is it even possible to get a lawyer and sue for something like this to make them stop? What kind of court would it be handled in?

Is this a Scam to Lawyers?

Just started in legal tech sales but I’m not sure if this product brings value. I think I believe in the product since gives a more efficient solution when dealing with property damage claims but you be the judge. Here’s my sample pitch : I came across a semi-new software company called TrueClaims that focuses on injury firms heavy on MVA and wanted to get your opinion on it - it looks to me like it could be an industry disruptor.

It claims to turn the vehicle property damage side of things (which it seems most PI hate doing and only do as a courtesy?) into a whole new marketing angle to differentiate the law firm from others and attract a lot more bodily injury cases. They have about 115 law firms using it.

If I can get the owner, can I get you on a brief 3 way call where you can pick at it and see if there's anything to it? —-so what do you guys think is this a scam?

Galen Carrico, Esq. Private Defense Cleanup Crew – Washoe County (aka “The Guy They Call When a Client’s Asking Too Many Questions”)

Post Title: Urgent Help Needed – Defendant Read a Law Book and Now He Won’t Shut Up

Okay y’all, I really need backup here. I was appointed this idiot last June—total throwaway appointment, supposed to be quick and dirty, wrap him up in a plea, maybe run him through a fake competency eval, done. But between June and September 11th (yes, the irony is not lost), he sent me like dozens of emails crying about his constitutional rights like we haven’t all been ignoring those since the Patriot Act.

This dude—let’s call him “Church” because that’s his actual name—has been a ward of the state since he was a fetus. Juvenile hall, prison, rinse and repeat. Classic loser profile. No future, no shot, just a warm body we keep tossing between systems.

But then—he read a law book. And now we’ve got a problem.

Suddenly, everything’s a Brady violation. Everything’s “structural error.” Everything’s “denial of due process.”

He actually figured out what case law is. Started citing things. Started writing motions. Started asking to relieve me as counsel so he can represent himself.

I’m like—bruh.

Yes, technically the Constitution applies to you. In theory. Like a unicorn or a fair trial in Washoe County—sure, it exists. But not for you. Not for this. Not when Judge Barry “I-Don’t-Even-Know-What-A-Witness-Is” Breslow is running the courtroom.

Anyway, we tried every trick in the book—ignored him, gaslit him, buried his motions, filed ones he explicitly said not to file (told him my “supervisor” made me do it—which is funny, because I’m private counsel and my supervisor is a public defender—LOL, love that loophole).

But this kid won’t die. Won’t quit. Won’t stop asking questions like he matters.

So a couple weeks back, Judge just issued a warrant—no new violation, nothing urgent—just because the client wouldn’t stop asserting his rights. Said he wanted to go pro se again. Judge got tired of the noise. Boom. Warrant. Shut him up. Classic Barry.

But the problem is—it’s not shutting him up. He’s filing in federal court. He’s dropping transcripts. He’s citing SCOTUS opinions like a jailhouse Scalia.

And now I’m getting heat from the DA, pressure from the Judge, and nervous whispers from upstairs that I need to “handle this.” What does that even mean? I’m a private attorney. I don’t handle federal exposure.

So now I’m asking the group: • How do you neutralize a client who won’t stop self-advocating? • What’s the fastest way to get a “no hearing” competency order rubber-stamped without triggering a circus? • Is there a legal limit to how many times we can deny someone the right to go pro se before it becomes an issue? • Can we just say he’s delusional for believing the Constitution matters? Would that hold up?

I need help. This guy’s playing chess and I only brought Uno cards.

If anyone has run this kind of cleanup op before, DM me. The Judge is getting nervous. And when Barry gets nervous… someone ends up disbarred.

—Galen (aka “Writ Blocker 9000”)

What type of lawyer do I consult with

Hello! My partners mother had a stroke and will be discharge from the hospital but her husband does not want to take the responsibility on with her new state. My partner offered her to move in with us. However, her sibling is not on board and I fear she will try to sue against my property or myself if something was to happen to the mother. I live in California and don’t know what type of lawyer to get in contact with. Thanks in advanced.

Is it possible to sue for embezzlement and win even if I get compensated by the embezzler indirectly?

This is the scenario I'm thinking of an insider embezzles all of the funds in his fintech institution through a hack. Before the hack occurs a third party acquires the company to continue development of the platform, and they compensate everyone with shares. Once the shares appreciate to or above the amount lost an individual sells. So, they're break even or at a slight profit.

But, the former insider still embezzled $16 million. (assume everyone who were the victims of embezzlement made $16 million total from the shares given) The customers find evidence of the embezzlement, but the new owners do not want to pursue civil restitution. Can the customers still sue over the funds lost? Can they effectively double dip bringing the total compensation for customers to $32 million?

Indian law student considering tax law LLM in US

I am an Indian law student currently in final year of LLB . Have given LSAT and got 178 , initially planned to do JD from T20 with good scholarships. I was always reluctant to do LLM as even an ivy league LLM won't do much for job opportunities. However lately as per my research I have got to know that tax law LLM from NYU or Gorgetown does provide decent employment opportunities for international grads requiring visa sponsorships.

1) how tough is it to get in LLK programs from Gorgetown or NYU

2)would work experience matter. I am planning to do LLM straight out of graduation with no full time work experience. Should I gain 1-2 years of work experience in my home country and then come to US ? Would having no work experience be a disadvantage in getting jobs .

Can I join LLM straight out of law school without any work experience

3) how's the scenario for jobs for international grads who require visa sponsorships and relocation if they don't get picked in H1B lottery.

I recently purchased a handheld PS Vita from my local gaming store, where I was told that the device had been checked and tested to ensure it was working properly. However, I am now facing issues with the battery and the device failing to connect to Wi-Fi. I wouldn’t be as upset as I am considering they have a 100% refund in the first 30 days. But it’s in store credit… I DONT WANT STORE CREDIT TO A STORE THATS NOT EVEN RELIABLE

Could websites like BidenBloodBath.com considered libel?

The website bidenbloodbath.com (now redirects to GOP.com but archive exists) previously had many articles accusing Biden of being the cause of a wave of violent crime across America. It provided no actual evidence of the crimes, nor did it provide any evidence of Biden's responsibility other than vague allegations related to the immigration policy.

My understanding is that libel against a (ex) public official like Biden requires false statements of facts published with actual malice (knowledge that the statements were made with knowledge of falsity or reckless disregard for the truth).

Does the site qualify under this standard for libel? If not, hypothetically what would the publishers would have had to do/write to realistically be liable for libel? Thank you
