My 4-year-old is level 2 and semi-verbal. Very much a gestalt speaker and I feel her hiccups are more cognitive rather than her physically lacking the ability to speak. She understands how to speak words, but often doesn’t use them in context or without prompting. Does anybody have a similar child this has been helpful for? I would 100% get this if it were to help, but it’s quite an investment for something I’m not sure about!

Look at Proloquo instead, very similar to Proloquo2go. You can read about the app differences on their website. Proloquo is also on 50% at £45 for the year (not sure what that is in dollars). You could try Proloquo and see if your kid gets on with it before buying Proloquo2go.

Check your insurance. Do you have Medicaid* for the child? They can get you a free iPad with an app like this usually. My kids is on Medicaid*, and it was free. You can also get a free name tag enclosure for it.

Here is the link to apply.

They also sell a dedicated device WITH the app for $250 which is the same price as that single app. If you don't have insurance.

$250 for an app is just taking advantage of autistic families. *

We.got our ipad , with otterbox case and choice of app ( we chose proloque2go) free from a grant through our state (sc)  that is paid for by taxes on phone plans. It is a program that provides communication devices for various disabilites like deaf, blind , non verbal etc. They even replace the ipad if its damaged.

Yes, a great time to buy! Years ago, April 2nd is when we bought the LAMP app for 50% off. It’s nice to save, and my son still uses the app to communicate every day.

This is insane, 249$ for an app. What a rip-off.

If your child has autism they likely qualify for Medicare. Medicare will get them a free quick talker, which is an iPad with only access to an app just like this for free, 0 dollars. You can also get a free name tag enclosure. The iPad also comes with a heavy duty case to protect it.

Here is the website for quicktalker.

They do take insurance. If you don't have insurance, you can get a dedicated appliance for $250 with the app they use, all for less than this one single app.

This is the way.

We were able to get one through our standard insurance. Our SLP helped us get it started. We paid zero dollars and have Grid for iPad. If we want to switch to proloquo2go, we just have to get in touch with the company and they’ll swap it.

The down side is that this iPad is locked to only this learning app - LAMP and the camera. So if you ever want to use another apple app or iPad app, you would most likely need a different device to do so on. I am not sure if the company ablenet would unlock it, doubtful though.

Medicaid. Not medicare.

How do you suppose the company affords to develop and maintain softwares? Families who can afford to do so pay for it. Thats how. And thoose who cannot are subsidised through insurance and grants.

I wish they would have a more reasonable price year round instead of a deep discount for one month.

I absolutely wish it was more of an accessible tool . They make so much money on it being an app that people can just download and not having to send anything physically out .
