'Friend' ruined this game for me. Not sure what to do.
I'm fairly new to the genre and dnd as a whole. Decided to pick the game up and start my first run with a friend who is not new to this sort of thing. I figured it would be nice to have someone there with experience to help me out. I was wrong. We're halfway through act 2 now and I already have lost all motivation to keep going. He is an insufferable prick that will patronize me constantly for trying to learn the game at my own pace and play the way I want. I just feel stupid after every session we have. I've confronted him about this, but he will just downplay it. I plan on dropping him and want to start a solo run, but I just dont have the mental energy to try right now. It's such a shame because despite that terrible experience, I was really enjoying what the game had to offer.
Has anyone gone through something similar? If so, any advice?
Edit: Wow, I never thought this post would get that much attention. I woke up to so much kindness and encouragement flooding in :) This community is amazing. I'm not able to respond to everyone, but thank you all for the kind words and suggestions. Love you all ❤️

“You can’t play video games that long! We have children!”
Not sure what happened here. But I can’t load this game anymore and it logged over a million hours of gameplay. 😅

Loot gremlin here, is this enough, fellow gremlins?
I've seen a few people complain there's not enough supplies in the game. 4 hours and about half of the first zone later, there's already enough till the end of the game

Fortunate Glitch?
So it's my first play through and I was doing Karlach's quest and on the second time running into Dammon I already had an Internal alloy so I gave him that one to complete the quest step. Then he offered to make stuff from infernal metal if I found any. Now I only had one but he made like 3 pieces of armor and I'm 99% sure that I only had one. I assumed the only piece I had was used on karlach. It kept saying I found it at grymforge. I mean I'm ok with extra gear but I'm just trying to make sure I don't bone myself when I need it down the road.

Help Is getting the noblestalk worth it? Spoiler
I'm about 30hs into my first playthrough of bg3. I'm in the underdark and I'm trying to complete as many quests as possible before moving on to the next location. When I did the mushroom picker quest I accidentally blew up the mushrooms after saving the guy and moved on with some other missions. That was about 3hs of gameplay ago. Since then I've explored the arcane tower, fought a lava monster and found some mushrooms for the mindlfayer that's hanging out with the michanids. I went back to the colony to mop up some loose ends and couldn't for the life of me find the noblestalk anywhere. I googled it and realised that I'd blown it up! Google says it's important for helping shadowheart with her memories but I don't want to lose 3hs of gameplay and have to do all that stuff again.
Is it worth it? Do I need to go back and get this stupid mushroom or can I just move on and keep my saves?

Going into final fight
Last balanced run, probably overkill with the buffs but I'm mentally preparing for tactician run

Finished the game, check the Reddit and realize I missed a companion.
So, all ready starting a new run. I’m late to the BG3 party, and just finished it for the first time last night - amazing game.
I wanted to avoid spoilers to I avoided this place like the plague until now and I see posts about someone named Minthara.
Name isn’t ringing a bell, so I look her up and it’s the Drow from the Goblin Camp! I just killed her and moved on after a quick conversation.
Looks like it’s time for another run to try and recruit her

Invisible enemy
How do I fight, let alone defeat an invisible enemy? In this case: Yurgir.
When they are only invisible for a couple rounds, I can deal. But this guy is invisible all fight, I can't attack him a single time while he slowly kills off my party. And my Tav had the "surgery" to see through invisibility but even he can't see or attack Yurgir.
I've reached the game over screen a couple times now after spending ages on this fight and I literally don't even want to pick up the game again lol.
(I generally suck at gaming and I have no experience with ANY PVP games so am totally stumped, apologies if it's a stupid question... :'D)

Help Help with zrell fight?
I'm finally at the part of the game where I need to fight zrell and then go kill kethric. The problem is, I'm having a lot of trouble with that fight. I've tried it like four times already, and every time, that fight just sweeps everyone.
I also didn't open the back door to Balthazars room, so I can't skip the fight.
I feel stupid for not preparing for this game in the long run, considering I'm trying to do this fight at only level seven. And it's extremely frustrating when everyone just crowds the stairs so my party can't even move, and then we get stuck in the dark spell
Can anyone give me some genuine tips on the fight? Thanks in advance
Edit: Honestly, I've been considering restarting the game for a second playthrough. I went into Baulders gate completely blind and now that I have a. Better understanding of the game, it might do me good.
Edit 2: I figured it out! Thanks, everyone!

Help Honor Mode failed, but why?
I ran from the collapsing Rosymorn Monastery after grabbing the Blood of Lathander, jumping down the balcony, moving towards waypoint. Got the cutscene, cutscene ends, everybody but gale made it, which is ok enough, but then I put the controller to the side to grab a drink and when I came back, my run has ended.
Any ideas, why? Could not reproduce by resuming in dishonor..

Help Did Banishment bug out in my favor or work as intended?
I'm on my first playthrough. I've never used Banishment, but I just did on Yuiger during the Raphael fight. He was prone and it had 100% chance to hit. He disappeared at the beginning of the fight and never returned. We fought for at least 8 rounds. I thought he would be back after two.

PSA for your honor mode attempt Spoiler
This hordeless, rust-covered, overgrown kobold ended my honor run right at the end. I hoped to get the sword and helm of balduran before fighting the elder brain; and if you hope to do the same, don't make the same mistakes I did.
Ansur's "Gather Power" ability only lasts one turn, despite the icon saying it lasts 2 turns, be sure to bring a globe of invulnerability or be ready to get behind cover. His stormlight nova hurts a lot
When he gets brought to 0 hp, he immediately goes into his gather power phase, no matter if he's done it before or not
On honor mode, YOU ARE PERMANENTLY WET. So even if you have a wildshaped druid with lightning resistance, you will be one shot by the nova.
You may think you've got him when you're full health party has brought him to 0hp, but if you're last attack for the round happens to crit and do just enough damage to trigger his +100 temp hp gather power phase, he will immediately end your run
Don't let this happen to you. This has been a PSA for your future honor mode run
Yall, I need to know your play times 😭
I just saw the hours I put into this and I was shook lol

OC Planning to Play BG3 With a More Experienced Friend? Read This First or Don’t Bother
I keep seeing this issue crop up on here and I don't understand why, but then I realized not everyone is able to set boundaries. So here's the deal.
If you're new to Baldur’s Gate 3 (or D&D games in general) and you're considering playing with someone who’s already done multiple runs, this post is for you. And more importantly, this post is for your friend — the one who “just wants to help” but ends up spoiling every decision, backseat-gaming your every move, or railroading the entire experience until you’re not even playing anymore — you’re just watching them play through your session.
This is not a “let’s agree to compromise” post. This is a set of rules. Deviate from them once, and the game’s over. If your friend can’t respect that, they don’t get to play with you. Simple.
Ground Rules for Playing BG3 with a Veteran Friend
1 - No Spoilers.
That includes outcomes of choices, dialogue results, secret paths, future betrayals, NPC personalities, or anything that will happen later in the game.
Do NOT say things like, “You’ll see why later,” “Trust me, don’t do that,” or “You’re gonna regret that.” If I regret it, I regret it. It’s MY game.
2 - No Loot Pointing.
Don’t tell me where the good weapons are.
Don’t direct me to every hidden stash like some psychotic GPS.
Let me explore. Let me miss things. That’s how you learn and immerse yourself.
3 - Let Me Read and Choose Dialogue.
Don’t rush through dialogue or bark “Pick [Option 3]!” while I’m still reading.
I’m playing to roleplay, not min-max charisma checks or unlock some “correct” story.
4 - No Party Micromanagement.
Don’t try to dictate my spell prep, gear loadout, or tell me I’m “building my character wrong.”
If I ask for advice, cool. If I don’t — sit back.
5 - Respect My Pace.
Don’t fast-travel the party out while I’m still exploring.
Don’t skip fights, spam jump, or race to finish quests.
We go slow. I’m learning. If you want to speedrun, do it solo.
6 - Don’t Talk Down to Me.
If your default tone is patronising or know-it-all, this isn’t going to work.
"Helping” doesn’t mean making someone feel stupid or dragging them through the game like a child.
If you're the veteran friend - you either accept these rules, or we stop playing.
This is about respect. If you think your experience gives you the right to override someone else’s joy of discovery, you’re not helping - you're hijacking.
Some of us want to get lost in the world. We want to fumble, fail, and figure things out. If that frustrates you? That’s your issue, not ours.
To anyone who's had their first playthrough ruined by a well-meaning (but overbearing) friend: you're not alone. Share this post. If they can’t handle it, let them play alone — and you do your solo run when you’re ready.
Let this be the boundary post.
Lost Honour #2 in one of the dumbest ways possible.
Honour Mode attempt #1: died at level 3 because I didn’t realize encounters had been changed from Tactician. Surprise, there’s a second adult Owlbear!
Honour Mode attempt #2: died at level 5. Zhentarim basement. Refused to execute Rugar for his thievery, Zarys nuked my party with explosives from above, downing 3 out of 4 characters before I could act. Somehow turned it around and survived by abusing line of sight and forcing enemies to dash a bunch, then divide and conquer. Then while exploring the rest of the cave, forgot to unchain my sleight of hand (disarm) character from the party, failed a disarm on a trap on a bridge. Entire party had followed onto the bridge. Trap explodes, bridge goes boom, party falls to their deaths. Womp womp.
Honour Mode attempt #3: commenced. My wife likes to design my characters so I’m writing this as she is customizing my guardian.

Can you get the honor mode achievement if you have cosmetic mods installed?
I want the golden dice— I’m GONNA do it next run. But I also want cute clothes/a face.. unless having any mods downloaded at all will mess up that opportunity.

Option to bribe shadowheart in the Shadowfell?(major spoilers) Spoiler
I’m currently on act 2 of a Karlach playthrough breezing through Shar’s trials with Shart in gaseous form to cut down on conversation. Karlach has no affinity with her so failed to convince her to let the Nightsong live. Instead of Shadowheart turning hostile immediately the game prompted me to offer her a gift. Karlach is no loot goblin so she just tried to buy her off with about 1k of gold (all she had at the moment). Shadowheart declined and attacked. She died when Eldra Lutherinn tossed her into the shadowfell, losing her gear and the gold (oops).
Has anyone encountered this scenario? What is the appropriate I’m sorry gift for trampling Shadowheart’s destiny? A Night orchid? A Selunite idol? A bottle of wine and a Xanax?

Help Evil Run
Hey! I’m determined to do an evil Tav run but I need your guys opinions on what you consider to be an “evil class” and what the best companions will be? Also I refuse to kill karlach so I’ll be avoiding her and I refuse to hurt Scratch or Owlbear cub ❤️
