Act 1 - Spoilers Dark Urge Act 1 camp event alternate solution Spoiler

Thanks to Briar_Knight for thread name, its really hard trying to figure out a name to a thread without it spoiling anything.

What this made you do was wrecking me, especially since Larian said it was possible to avoid these things while playing as the Durge. Eventually found a way through my own experimentation to get around it.

(I hope you quicksave a lot)

If you get the event that has Alfira show up at camp, reload your last save and go to the location Alfira sings at.

Turn on Non lethal damage and whack her until she's unconscious. Just make sure she's not dead.

Go to camp and have a long rest.

A different NPC will show up at camp instead and goes through the Dark Urge storyline where you kill them in your sleep. You have never met this NPC before.

Wake back up and Alfira is still alive and well at her spot above the Glade, even still talks to you.

This will get you the cloak from the murdering, and ALSO doesn't break your Paladin Oath (At least mine didn't as an Oath of the Ancients; the oath DOES break when its Alfira).

Edit: Was able to play through and confirm that nothing wonky happens on Durge, Alfira shows up at the party if you save the Haven and talks like she usually would, so she's safe from...Well. You. xD

Edit 2: If you speed through the first act without a lot of Long Rests, there is a chance to lock yourself out of this 'fix' so to speak. I've seen reports this usually happens around your...6th or so Long Rest, and if you have progressed beyond the Grove incident, since you cannot find Alfira, you cannot knock her out in order to get Quil.

Edit 3: Huzzah. \o/ Act 3 and nothing wonky happened, can complete all Durge and Alfira content with no issues. And for those who say what's the point, you are rewarded mechanically for keeping her alive; Act 2 at least gives you an armor piece for sorcerers and warlocks that just might be endgame material.

Edit 4: Can confirm as of major patch 6 this method still works. Some people seem to have gotten confused that you need to...knock her out? If you don't one shot Alfira, make sure to quickly bonk her again in non lethal before she heals back up. Also (I *think* this is new?) if you're a Paladin, you being the attacker results in your oath breaking. So get Astarion to do it. <,< >.>

So she's awake after a long rest even though you knocked her out? I wonder if you just solved the various "I knocked X out, journal says so too, but everyone's acting like I killed them" issues people have been reporting as well: take a long rest before reporting in.

Also sorry for not responding to your original post on my previous thread, I tried to make this one as spoiler free as possible while still being a resource for...Everyone else.

Because yes, I 100% felt the same way when I did this. You still have the 'Oh god what did I do' reaction. I know because I've killed her before. I kinda fumbled in my initial playthrough, didn't really know all the systems too well, wasn't having fun...So I said screw it and went the evil path. I didn't even talk to Alfira in that playthrough. THIS is the NPC that shows up to get murdered on a 'bad' path to let you continue the Dark Urge's storyline.

But meeting all the npcs in the Grove, and then...Uhh...killing this one *really* stung. And yes, I also tried the ritual suicide metagaming approach where you tried to be dead when Alfira shows up. She still dies in that version though. And also...You're kinda a jerk too. This saves me from...being a jerk.

The condition for non lethal knockouts says 'temporarily unconscious'. I think all NPCs act this way if you knock them out and then come back after a long rest? I haven't really messed with the 'crime' system too much so haven't gone around knocking guards out.

So long as you don't take too long knocking her out, no guards should notice what you're doing since...She is up on a ledge far away from anyone else.

Also the journal correctly notes in your questline that you killed Quil instead of Alfira. You get different text and everything.

Gonna test this, here's hoping it doesn't lock me out of that one really good warlock chest piece.

Don't know what you're referring to, but this doesn't block the Durge's questline, it can still proceed.

There's an item you get, if you save all the tieflings in Act 1, including the bard, that effectively doubles the damage of Eldritch blast. I chose my Dark Urge to be a warlock and I'm anxious to save her.

Bad news is that she is completely missing from my game. If I take a long rest, she dies, but if I don't, she isn't even in the camp. I missed her on my way to do the goblin quest stuff and she isn't in her little place above the grove right now.

In Act 2, I've seen what you're talking about. I have gotten Alfira up to Act 3 while playing as a Durge, and can confirm your fancy chest piece is indeed obtainable. In fact doing this is the *only* way I think you can get that armor while playing as a Durge.

I can't say if she'll be friendly towards you since...You never met her? But if you saved the grove yuou'll meet her again in Act 2 and can probably get the same quest from her.

She's on a ledge close to the gate. What part of the story are you? If you've celebrated with the Tieflings she won't be in the grove anymore.

3

u/alexmikli Aug 10 '23

I haven't done a celebration with them yet I don't think, but I did get that prompt. I didn't see her close to the gate but maybe I can go back to an older save and double check.

I know her normal position is above the grove, but she's gone from there since I beat the goblins.

If you have done the good version of the goblin killing, she should be east, near where the the tiefling who was peering through the telescope was located. Bear in mind that doing these steps will be a bit harder since she is no longer isolated so there will be folks witnessing you hitting her. Maybe best bet would be to have a rogue sneak up and try and knock her out in one hit from stealth.

Just bear in mind if you get her visiting your camp *after* all the Tieflings have left, there's pretty much no chance of saving her, since she's no longer in a spot you can konk her over the head. Unless on one long rest you make it *all* the way over to the Last Light Inn.

Ah, doing things this way is how you get her to stay alive, so you should be able to still gain this item.

"Wake back up and Alfira is still alive and well, even still talks to you"

Bro for real? What does she say? Does she react to the murder?

You kill someone else entirely, Alfira doesn't even show up for the murder scene, you end up killing someone else, a female Dragonborn named....Quil.

To clarify she's alive and well at the spot you can always find her over the Glade.

still recruitable?

10

u/Icy-Confusion-5653 Paladin Aug 09 '23

No, Alfira was never a recruitable option, I think all that talk was them trolling players because your char. then...Does the bad thing to Alfira.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '23

I wouldn't even be that much bothered if I didn't hear her beautiful song that goes through entire game, you can even find a music box that plays the music form song. I am still sad for the female dragonborn, but she will have to take it for the team, hopefully we get a mod to revive NPCs.

3

u/Icy-Confusion-5653 Paladin Aug 13 '23

That'd probably be difficult to mod, but there's probably an easier way to mod the game with just making sure while playing as the Durge the Dragonborn event procs instead of Alfira.

There's a music box that plays that song too???

.......No. She never joins your party. I feel like I've answered this before somewhere...<,< >.>

u/No-Entertainment4274 Aug 11 '23

Killed her in cutscene.Have long rested two more times after that. No cloak. What am I doing wrong? Plz help. At goblin camp right now.

6

u/Icy-Confusion-5653 Paladin Aug 12 '23

If you killed Alfira in a cutscene...And you're...asking here?...How to fix that? Just sounds like a bug outside of this things purview.

Otherwise I'd just give it time.

2

u/No-Entertainment4274 Aug 12 '23

Had gave it time. It finally happened. Worth noting that your protector cut scenes for long rest will interrupt/delay it.

2

u/Icy-Confusion-5653 Paladin Aug 12 '23

AH. Yeah, I thought you were getting nothing during your long rests; someone has reported that a romance scene will delay a Durge scene. The scene where you get a reward is on a lower priority than the main murder one.

5

u/vengefulflyer01 Aug 22 '23

Dang,my first time she showed up I reloaded to try the knock out method but that nights events changed . Then when I finally got her to show up again I had finished the grove quest . Now she’s screwed..

2

u/Icy-Confusion-5653 Paladin Aug 22 '23

Yeah, I've added it on other versions of this guide, but will update this one that you should really do all of this before resolving the grove/goblin crisis.

3

u/Scared_Expression_66 Aug 28 '23

Just a heads up to anyone looking for her if she's not on the ledge above the Grove, I found her other spot, she goes down in the caves with the kids if you took out all the druids the way I did, that will be her new spot. It's a hidden cave by the cows.

3

u/SimpathicDeviant Nov 13 '23

They just have patched this because I can’t attack her down to unconscious without her healing herself. Tried several times. Just going to accept that she’s dead

u/mattb-nz Nov 15 '23 edited Dec 11 '23

na i noticed this as well.....just change it to turn based mode and have the whole party go bonkers on her....can still knock her out and she doesnt have the chance to heal.

another tip- just keep long resting next to her without using any of provisions and it will advance the story to the point where she is meant to show up (just keep knocking her out between rests).....ive just done this and quil turns up, got murdered and then after camping alfira still in her spot singing away

i havent progressed the story past that yet, so cant confirm if leave no one behind unlocks but fingers crossed!

Edit: Just finished my dark urge tactician run and can confirm i got the leave no one behind trophy - was a tad worried as i mucked up and didnt heal the shadow curse, but this had no effect, leave no one behind still popped

3

u/SimpathicDeviant Nov 15 '23

Sound advice! I’ll try that on my next Durge run!

1

u/AlwaysHasAthought Dec 15 '23

Heya, do we know if this still works?

2

u/DTDJedi Dec 19 '23

Confirming that this still works!

1

u/Pheyris Sep 06 '23

Hey, were you able to get the save every tiefling achievement this way? I've read conflicting stuff on the game still somehow considering her dead even when she's still alive after this
