if you are not entirely understood what you're looking at here: look directly at the center of the ball and try to trick your brain into thinking you're not looking at a ball, but actually through a fish-eye lense of a camera.

Then you'll see that as he turns the ball, the illusion makes it look exactly as if you were on the spot it was taken from, moving a camera about. It essentially means you can use this ball to have a 360 degree photograph of an area.
