Sleep Easy
The sea may rise, the sky may fall, The winds may whisper, roar, or call, But through the storm, the compass knows— The heart beats on, steady as she goes.

I'll sleep easy... knowing my asset allocation is appropriate for my risk tolerance 😴

Yep. The US economy will be fine. We have young demographics and our debt is stable. Our democracy and institutions are strong and healthy. “This time is different” crowd get distracted by short term sensational headlines, instead of looking at long term macroeconomic foundations.

Sometimes it actually is different. People say this shit with like religious fervor but sometimes you’re Baghdad in the 1200s and the Mongols are about to ensure your city remains a backwater for the next 800+ years.
Sometimes you are the British empire and you dominate the world, the sun never sets on your empire right?
Sometimes you are Rome, the center of civilization and the most important society at the frontier of human history.
I’m sure in all of those societies there were people who thought they knew how to invest, that their society would always come back from its struggles. Because it always happened before right? Until all of a sudden it doesn’t.

Your democracy is not fine. Just because the one you voted for is doing this, that doesn't mean you can turn a blind eye.

I’m imagining an old guy with a beard saying this while meditating outside in the middle of a hurricane.

The way I think of it: we know not the day or hour. There is no scoreboard when you croak.
I know a EVP at my company who had millions saved, gave continuing education on personal finance, and died of a heart attack at the office at 59. My neighbor worked at a garden center his whole life, lives monkishly off social security, and is 93 and loves long walks with his dog and in his small garden.
