Question Demos
Not a training question but does your dealership allow your salespeople to use demos? My dealership and auto group is strictly limited to a couple sales managers and the GMs of each store using demos. I (just a lowly salesperson) am currently in a demo (its an EV) and have been for about a week with approval from the GM and our owner knows. But the other sales people and some sales managers aren't happy about it because we don't usually allow it for everyone. So that begs the question of how normal is it for salespeople to have demos?

Demos are only used vehicles for sales manager, GM, office manager, and our used car manager who is a salesman. All have been there +10yrs. But we can borrow vehicles if we need them. They'll allow salesmen to demo a car for the day if it's not a special high end car.
I dont care. I prefer my own car tbh

I work for Audi/Porsche. As a car guy it’s super cool to take home most cars we have in stock.
The first year I would have been jumping at the opportunity to take home a S8 or Panamera for shits and giggles, but as time goes on it’s not the shine that wears off…. It’s understanding the risk involved and the consequences.
As I said to my lot attendant the other day… he goes
“ why don’t don’t drive home any car you want everyday?”
“ because my boy, when something does go wrong , I don’t want to have to explain a crash or fender bender to my president even when it’s not my fault , can’t get in trouble if you don’t actually drive the car home !”
Ofcourse every now and then I take cars out for a whip, but it’s rare these days.

Our dealer group doesn't allow demos. To anyone, including GM's. They have a special program for a 12 month lease for the GM's but that's it.

Over the years it’s dwindled significantly. Used to be everyone could get one, now it’s just GM in some places. It’s a benefit with a cost, so it’s the first to get cut so your principle can get another vacation house.

Our owner uses demos because we do used cars and he wants to experience the cars, see if there is an issue.
If a truck is needed for a move or something it is permitted.
Most of us at my lot actually do not have cars. The other two salespeople at mine have licenses but one can't get approved for one, the other can drive but prefers to not.
I have never driven and never will.

Do you sell cars? If so, do you have difficulty speaking with conviction regarding the vehicle’s performance/features when you don’t and never will drive one? No judgement; I would just love to hear more about that as it’s a a very interesting juxtaposition to me!

Yes, I sell cars. I am the senior salesman at my lot. No, I am extremely detail oriented-I worked in fashion retail for 13 years before and the features and all that are second nature to me. Wipers? Headlights? Turn signals? Not my strong suit. But features? Yes.
