Exhaust Anyone starting to lose interest in cars recently?
For point one, I am buying into the theory that new cars are worse and old cars are better than new ones. This point does not need further explanation here.
Then back in the day, I enjoyed buying cheap cars and adding lots of mod to have fun with faster cars. I really enjoyed feeling the difference after installing performance parts in a car. However, as used car prices have gone up over the years, I believe they will never get back to what they used to be.
Also, with EVs becoming more popular, a cheap Model 3 can smoke most ICE cars, making it just no longer worth doing it anymore.... A very realistic advantage of EVs is that they offer much more horsepower, making them the best bang for the buck
Now, I don’t care much about performance parts anymore. I just drive until something breaks, then I replace it.
I remember when I drove something I loved, I didn't want to get out of the car. After moving to a rust belt state, I owned an old car that I liked, but I can't drive it daily because rust would eventually ruin it. That means I need a second cheap car for commuting or for bad weather.
I end up driving my boring commuter more than my beloved car. I don't have that same "don't want to get out of the car" feeling with my second commuter car for sure.
A few years ago, I never thought about buying an EV, they seemed boring and suck. But recently, I did more research on EVs and started considering buying one. However, I haven't bought one yet because the insurance is 2x as expensive and the range is still poor. Maybe in a few more years, if a single charge can last for 1000 miles, I will buy one.
Basically just sharing my thoughts. I don't know what to do next, but I've been a car guy for over 20 years and have amassed quite a collection of tools in my toolbox. Maybe that's the reason I don't want to quit for now lol

Exhaust Burble tunes are pissing me off
Burble tunes are fucking outrageous
It was cool for a little bit but like jesus christ dude. Theres guys driving around in a car that sounds like a whole war is going on in the tail pipes. Its so goddamn annoying. Im a car guy, have been my whole life, and i absolutely support doing the shit to your car that makes you happy, but guys some of these burble tuned cars are so damn loud that they will give you hearing damage. I went on a walk the other night and all i could hear for a solid 10 minutes was some dip shit VQ straitpiped loser going up and down the street outside my neighborhood making enough pops and bangs to give a war vet with ptsd a heart attack. It was so so loud. Its just ridiculous. At that point it's not about what makes you happy anymore You're really just looking for attention. Also that's just a fucking cop magnet. Overall, burble tunes are stupid. They can be fun at meets and stuff where the culture is understood but driving around a stupid loud pops and bangs car makes the general populace and the police hate car guys. Its ruining our image just like how takeovers do. My car is only slightly modified but I'm afraid that if I get pulled over the cop is going to think I'm some kind of takeover wannabe street racer or something.
Shits getting too ridiculous man. Just my opinion

Exhaust 2021 Ford Explorer. Why did they make the exhaust turn down instead of just going through the rear?

Exhaust Woke up to find my '05 Cavalier being deafeningly loud and missing part of its exhaust pipe. Like someone went after it with a hacksaw. What say the gearheads around here and what are my options?

Exhaust People who have muffler deletes or straight pipes on their cars, do you get pulled over often? Do the cops even care that much?
I wanna make my car sound good but I don’t wanna get fined every time I leave my house lol, thanks in advance. (For clarification, I’m not trying to get straight pipes, just trying to see how those who do have em get around the legal side, and I’m open to suggestions that aren’t quite as loud or obnoxious)

Exhaust uhh is this suppose to happen?
Was checking around my car after it had been at the mechanics for a bit, grabbed the muffler and it was shaky and pulled right off, does this normally happen with wear and tear or could it possibly be a sabotage at the mechanic? bc never noticed this before taking it in. Either way my car pops when i rev it now which i love so a W ig.

Exhaust So this kind of pisses me off. Warmed-up car by the way… wtf is this smoke? Just checked the oil last night and I don’t drive it hard. Often. It’s never done this before. But when I got home, it wasn’t doing it anymore. Maybe I’m tripping? 2005 Subaru STI

Exhaust Found one catalytic converter gutted…
I took off the manifold to replace the gaskets, only to find out that one of the catalytic converters has been gutted(presumably by previous owner or a mechanic robbed him).
What is my best option now? I wont be replacing it anytime soon(exhaust manifold with the catalytic converters), should i gut the other one to balance the back pressure? Is it necessary to tune after having them both gutted?

Exhaust My boring T-bird 96's are pretty angry now.
Exhaust Is a mild exhaust going to get me tickets?
Hello y’all,
I’m badly tempted to buy a mild aftermarket exhaust for my BRZ, since it doesn’t sound like much stock. Maybe the HKS Legamax. The car has no cosmetic mods and looks totally stock. WR Blue, so not the loudest color, but not totally invisible either. What I’m wondering is, will something with a little rumble get me speeding tickets? I don’t drive like an asshole, but I do drive it like a sports car (lower gears within reason, and a little fast-ish on nice winding roads). The insurance on this thing is murder already and I don’t need any tickets. Thoughts? I had thought there’d be answers elsewhere, but it’s mostly kids asking whether they’ll get ticketed for noise if they do a full-on muffler delete.

Exhaust Rusted Y-Pipe Bolt, What Next?
Soaked for 2 nights in PB Blaster, propane torched to heat up. No budge, the nut seems slightly smaller than the socket that fits (15mm) and it starter to strip. What next? I could drill them out but I have done that before, and access was a pain, and went through way too many drill bits. What is the “pro move”, what would a shop do?
