Advice on finding an owner
Hi everyone, I need a little bit of advice regarding a cat that has shown up at our door, he's extremely friendly and is pretty clean so i definitely think he's owned but he won't leave, he's been with us for a few days now and I'm trying to find his owner, I've been keeping an eye on the lost and found Facebook groups for our area and I've taken him to the vets to see if he is chipped. He is chipped but there is no name or contact details linked to it. I don't really want to be posting him on the groups as he is an expensive breed and don't want the wrong people trying to claim him. I need some advice on where to go from here, we are Cat people so I'm happy for him to stay with us until we can find his owner

Add a paper collar with your contact information and send him on his way.
If he won't leave, post about a cat you've found and describe his features and add a low quality photo of just his face.
Anyone who claims him will need to provide evidence with either breeder papers or an adoption certificate or vaccination card and photos/videos to confirm they are his owner. Don't accept anything less.
Sadly, sometimes people dump their cats when they move or due to other circumstances so it could be they don't want him back. I'd reach out to a local rescue and make them aware of the situation as I believe that if after 7 days of trying to find an owner and failing the cat would be available for adoption. If this was the case they would be able to help with getting the chip registered to you (if you keep him, or whoever else adopts him), as well as supporting with fostering in the meantime (if needed).

In the UK, this is 30 days - so definitely check local laws. Otherwise, all of this!

The best advice I can give is to hang on to kitty and call ALL vets in your area (not just yours) and leave your name, number, and description of the cat. Ask to be contacted if anyone comes looking. Do the same for all shelters within your surrounding area.
Post a vague description of the cat online (e.g cream colour cat found in this general area) and ask anyone who contacts you to verify the cat's breed, name, vet, chip # (and whether they had out their details in) and ask if they have a photo. Any decent owner will have that info and will be happy to provide if it is their cat, or at least a damn good explanation if not.
It's not perfect, but it's probably the best you have got. It's also worth putting up a few fliers around your area that say the same. Not everyone is on social media.
