Confused.

Is she in pain or generally talkative?

She might be complaining at me for not giving her enough pets this morning. So yes she is in pain from lack of attention

I was wondering the same thing, bc the screaming mostly happened at pats to her spine, so I was thinking athritis.

Any other symptoms to look out for?

u/TinyFeetTiina wrote to check if she is only vocal at pats to the spine - maybe she enjoys pats to the side more to avoid irritation. I dont know how long you have had her, but if you saw a decrease in her readiness to jump up or down counters/couches etc, since the impact is hard on the joins. If her playing is less energetic is also a sign. If you can afford it, a vet has a better approach to checking for athritis. I bet there is a few youtube videos that show how to check for athritis in older cats, or atleast give you a hint if they have inflamed joints etc.

Athritic cats are also drawn to heat pads bc it gives pain relief (but then again all cats love a warm spot and older beings, animal or human, tend to feel cold).
