If this is not proof that going cashless will be one of the biggest fuckups ever and people don’t realise it…then we deserve what happens.

100% but the unaware will say "oh I don't use cash anyway". I asked the check out girl at the supermarket the other day how many people use cash. She replied "oh you'd be suprised, a lot".

How many people couldn't pay for their groceries yesterday? The only ones paying were the ones with cash.

At the Supey once and there was a major payment outage, people abandoned their trolleys. I had cash zoomed through

Does depend on the store though. It appears that Woolworths doesn't cache pricing locally anymore, resulting in an inability to check out.

Old PoS were great, I don't understand the drive to move to cloud when our internet here is so putty anyway.

Torpedo7, Mitre10, both moved to cloud PoS in the last year or two. Both spent far more than expected, are getting far less benefit than expected, and the checkouts are slow AF because they have to communicate with international services to find out what a barcode is.

The current issue is a problem with push updates, thats been around for decades. The architects and security groups have been aware of it and should have mitigated against it (updates are run in tranches from least to most important systems etc). Someone just got sloppy.

The generation of AI is going to bring a whole new paradigm of headaches to internet security. Bots may be dangerous, but they are mostly pretty dumb and the security community have been able to use pretty simple mechanisms to identify and counteract them.

The hacker group rely on numbers. The bigger the bot farm the more options they can use to do their attacks or intrusions.

Imagine a virus or worm attacking an AI engine (or interface), in newer generation hardware, and teaching it how to look for other exposures (and AIs) autonomously and intelligently.

Only thing that worried me was the shops, even with cash, after just a few days half the population will turn feral and they will close the shops out of safety concerns.

Reinforced to me the need to have enough fuel to escape the major population centres on hand.

It will be like hell on earth in any of new Zealands major centres we have enough low IQ low brow scum bags to make life extremely unpleasant fof those who have had the foresight and diligence to prepare for the very real cluster fuck that is just down the pipeline.

Cyber attacks and system crashes will be part of the path of any major global hostilities and the leftists are embedded into all the systems.
