Eventually, ACT aims to use satellite-based pricing, like that currently being adopted by Singapore, across the entire country. As such, all cars newly imported to New Zealand would be required to be fitted with telemetry equipment (either builtin or with an additional unit provided by a firm like E-Road) to integrate into such a system. Free telemetry units would gradually be rolled out to older vehicles remaining in the fleet after a five-year transition period.
