Weekly Question / General Discussion Thread
We ask that you please use this space for any general discussion, events, and ask questions you may have about ANYTHING related to the city, its neighborhoods and the overall metro Detroit area. The community has a plethora of knowledge from a variety of areas and will have an eye on this refreshed thread to help answer any questions you may have.
Anything is game. Need to know how to get around, restaurant or venue recommendations, what that sound was, why there are police on the lodge, etc. Or if you are visiting soon? Considering a move to the city? This is also a dedicated space to ask questions related to your upcoming venture to the D.
Share about weekly events! Anything going on in and around Detroit. Everyone is always looking for things to do; both locals & visitors. Provide as much information as you can so everyone can go to those events!

Note: this was previously a monthly thread and is now being updated to weekly to help boost awareness. Its also a new idea in general to minimize repetitive posts in the main feed. Let us know your thoughts!

Just closed on a house in Morningside. Really good shape, but the seller had a stroke about 4 weeks before closing and wasn't able to get the furniture out. Also a washer and dryer we don't need. Sofa and matching love seat, two twin mattress sets and one queen set, two vanities. We have to be moved out of our apartment by May 1. Is it worth trying to do an estate sale or is there any non-profit that could use a house's worth of furniture? Also have an old Cuisinart food processor and a blender, dishware, etc.

Good morning and happy friday. I am remodeling my bathroom, and I need to buy tile for my bathroom shower walls (and floor). Where is a good place to buy tiles from? I live in Oak Park just off 8 mile, so hopefully, it will be someplace within a 30 min drive from there. I read you don't want to use floor tile on your walls because you should use lightweight tiles on your walls. So, looking for someplace that sells tiles for the walls, too.

Is parking at MGM casino free overnight as well? I’ve parked during the day but unsure if I can leave my car overnight. Thank you

Im from the Cleveland area, but I’m interning in Detroit this summer! I know of a couple things to do like the big farmers market, DIA, and lakes Huron and Michigan are pretty close (relatively speaking). What are some other things to do? The must see/do type things. Im also wondering, is Detroit a relatively bikeable city? Im staying near midtown/downtown area and interning near Comerica for reference. Thanks so much!

Midtown is super bikeable and there's a lot of great local spots you can hit up. Stadtgarten is a fantastic beergarden with NA options if you don't drink. The DIA is gorgeous. Get some detroit style pizza (you'll get a lot of recommendations like michigan & trumbull, buddy's, shields if you're in midtown). I like rooftop bars when the weather permits- monarch club has a great view of the city though you may have to get reservations. River Walk is super serene, Belle Isle is fun and has an aquarium and a museum dedicated to the great lakes. You're in for a fun time, welcome!

Can anyone see this thread?
https://www.reddit.com/r/Detroit/comments/1jmvugl/seeking_information_from_2008_macomb_county/
On a whim one day, I looked up the name of a person I knew in the 70s. I found out that both the person and one of their children died within days of each other in 2008. There is no other information as to what happened, no news stories of an accident or anything else. All I can find are the obituaries and none of the other family is still alive, so there isn't anyone I can ask. Searched the Det News and Freep sites as well as the Macomb Daily.
Would Macomb Sheriff or Coroner release any general information?

I’ll be in the city for the next 2 days what’s going on tonight for music? Especially into D&B, jungle and Hard Techno.
