I’m a young charger owner and I’m left with an unfortunate mess to fix. Need some help or some advice I’ve been bawling my eyes out worried they will total the car out.

If you have insurance, don’t worry about it. Be happy you didn’t get injured, and be excited of the memories you made with it.

If you don’t have insurance, why are you young and owning a charger, you should be crying your eyes out. Sorry

Cheers

Yes I have full coverage and I cannot do anything about other drivers. I’m just worried they will find the amount to fix it greater than the worth of the car therefore totaling it out, the officer that was on scene legit told me to scam my insurance after I said I could fix it myself, idk what he means but he said it not me lol

He means milk the insurance for a check. When they total it you buy it back from them at a low rate and take the difference of the check they cut you and repair the car yourself. Granted it’ll be a salvage title once inspected but the car will be paid off

Just a heads up all that plastic shit in the front and underneath the car gets crazy expensive. Over 2k for oem.

Found the radiator support and all the extra pieces for it plus a bumper for under 1000$ and I already have the oem fender for that side sitting, I put a black fender to match the other side that had a black fender so it wasn’t just one looking like a crash I made it look as if someone put carbon fenders on just looked better with a full black front instead of one black fender and one black bumper with an orange fender on the other side.

Where did you score the plastic pieces? I hit someone’s dog doing 94 and obliterated it along with most of the plastic underneath and finding oem used parts hasn’t panned out. I’ve been trying to avoid the cheap thin material off eBay but may have to go that root cause the oem price tag is crazy

Paid off assuming you didn’t owe more than it was valued at and also have the cash on hand to purchase it at the buyback price.

Those are pretty big “ifs”.

Means take the check the give you fix it yourself and pocket the rest. Insurance don't need to know you fixed it yourself

So do I get the car estimate for the crash or what, can I tell them not to put it into a shop or how do I go abt it. Sorry I’m only 21 I’ve never done it so I’m a lil lost but I think I understand what yu mean my main question is how do I go about getting the check and having it be the right amount. If it’s not totaled and fixable will the insurance force me to have it fixed at a shop or can I take it back home and use the money from insurance to fix it?

It depends on if you have a loan on it or not. If it’s financed then it’ll have to be repaired at a shop as the bank will want their collateral maintained properly. If you own it free and clear then you can get a check for the repairs and fix it however you want (or not at all and drive it damaged).

You take it to a shop get an estimate they will likely come to the shop and inspect it. Get a couple quotes they will either send you a check to fix or replace. If they want to total it tell them you want to retain the salvage you will get full value minus what they would reasonably expect to get from auction. And it stays clean title

And it stays clean title

That's not necessarily true. I've been involved with repairing three vehicles that were declared a total loss and repurchased from the insurance company. In all three instances, the owners were required to surrender the original title to the insurer so it could be rebranded as salvage.

Yes, but then all you have to do is find out at which auction the vehicle goes to and just bid on it to purchase.

You have to word it right. There is a difference between retaining the salvage and simply buying it back

It doesn’t stay clean title. At least not in most states. The car still gets tagged as totalled.

This.

Stay away from takeovers. Keep traction control on at all times. Stop it! Lol. Let ins handle it.

Lmao this car can’t be in a takeover it has an open diff with 295s on the back it’s not going anywhere sadly but again I cannot do anything about shitty Oregon drivers.

That's rough, my dude. I'm sorry about your car. I've lost some awesome rides over the years to asshats that shouldn't be on the road. Maybe take this as an opportunity to do a full tube front end and a wide body!??!? Or battle car it!?!?

Honestly my charger looks worse based on these 2 pictures. I have a 12 that needs everything up front. But it's so like 1500 bucks including paint to fix it

Its ok they made millions

If the upper radiator support is undamaged and the drivers side upper front frame is not bent then you are probably just probably gonna get a check. If those two things are damaged, the car will be totaled. You can do a quick test by putting in the drivers side headlight and see if all the holes line up. Buy the headlight on Amazon and return it if it does not align.

How bad was the hood folded?

There may be hidden damage that the body shop will uncover.

Dont let your insurance screw you. If they try to undershoot you, tell them to provide you a listing for the price they're offering you, or tell them blue book value. Insurance recovery is negotiable, even though they dont like to.

Rad support just needs to be replaced. That’s an easy fix.

1

u/Virtual-Cartoonist15 4d ago

What about the bend where the rad support is bolted to?

1

u/jeffjeep88 4d ago

Doesn’t look that bad. Take to a body shop they can fix that pretty easy

I would rather they total it out and I use the money to buy something that hasn’t been in a serious crash. It’s only a car.

Its a 5.7 bro just let the insurance buy you a new one? Like theres tons of these out there. Ive had badass cars my whole life (born in 96) from chevelle ss’s to vegas to dart swingers and i feel no sentimental value for the ones ive sold and lost along the way. Just a bunch of metal really thats easy to replace
