Good article about Mark Bailey from McNally's Shoes in Allen Park

Upvotes

https://www.wxyz.com/news/positively-detroit/allen-park-store-owner-has-traveled-more-than-50-000-miles-using-a-50-year-old-bike

If you haven't been to McNally's, it's a real experience, like walking into a store from the 50s. It's been a few years since I was there, but he had all his customers' information in old-fashioned card files. No computers. He's very attentive in getting your measurements and offering advice. It reminds me of what we've lost in the way of service over the last 40 years.

Mark is a very nice man who will tell you the whole history of the business and about his many travels. He married into the McNally family and he and his wife bought the business from her mother. It's one of the last independent shoe stores, still serving generations of Downriver families.

Please help! I cannot take this kitten in. I found it abandoned after their owner moved out the house, the owner left it outside! I cannot take it in due to me other cat who does not get along with cats. She is a 9 month old girl who is not neutered. If anyone could please help and give her a good home it would help me tremendously.

Lincoln Park - Certificate of Occupancy violation

Hi- as the title reads, I moved to LP last spring and had a Certificate of occupancy with a 6 month extension. Of course this is 100% my fault for not following through. But it’s the silliest things, painting a deck (that honestly is discolored in the highest foot traffic). Seems so silly and absurd for them to hand out a civil infraction- and mail it to an old mailing address…. Seems like the city is out to get me haha. Friend of a friend told me the city usually never follows up on these. Has anyone ever experienced this???? Thanks

They're taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care, our data, our jobs, our services—and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now.

Bathroom renovation contractor suggestions?

In a continuing effort to renovate some of the older parts of our home, my wife and I are looking in to getting our main floor bathroom renovated. We have old tile on the floor that also stretches up to the halfway point of the wall, need new plumbing (or, atleast, we have an old system that should be updated to the single-handle system). Replacing shower walls & maybe a new tub. We've spoken with AllPoint already, but they're quote was a bit out of our price range.

It's a standard size. We're not looking for anything extravagant. We'd love to stay as close to 15k as possible (AP quoted us around 22k). Does anyone have someone they've used that they found reliable?

Did anyone else see or hear the plane circling over Southgate today? He ended up landing at the airport but was flying very erratic beforehand.

How to feel safe...or at at least sorta. Advice?

Does anyone have this issue where they don't feel safe in their own hometown area? I've been living in downriver for on and off about 20 some odd years, and I never feel completely safe here. (Financially have no choice, let's not get into that bit just yet) As if always on edge now more than ever. As time passes on, it's getting worse. I know my post-traumatic stress disorder plays a bit of a role, I can handle that to an extent. Other than that I don't feel safe at all anywhere I go in the area... Or while working.

Anyone with some advice on how to go about feeling safe again in the downriver area? Therapy for multiple years is just not cutting it right now.. Metro city is just to obnoxiously big for me pretend to fit in, so please don't suggest a church. And sitting in the police station doesn't make me feel safe at all. If anything it makes me vomit to the thought of it, at least right now...

Edit* I appreciate all the comments, and the little advice that I did get. None of you actually answered what I was looking for though. You either made it political, you made it about yourself.. regardless, thank you Reddit once again for keeping me distracted during a PTSD trigger moment. Thanks guys, even though you didn't make me feel safe. At least I got distracted enough to where I could calm down, and carry about my morning.

Later morning edit* thanks, going to stop replying now. As we're not really getting anywhere. I appreciate everyone who took the time to comment regardless of the comment, I hope you all have great days ahead! Thanks!

Any places that serve a good duck?

I enjoy eating duck but there aren’t that many places that serve it. I once had it at The Rhapsody in southgate many years ago but nowhere else. It can be prepared in any way.

Therapist recommendation

Hey everyone. Just as the title states, I’m looking for a recommendation for a therapist. Preferably a woman, preferably 30+ years old, and bonus points if you whether they take Molina (not Medicare or Medicaid, it’s through the marketplace).

I’m asking for my mom. My dad recently passed after a brief, and honestly shocking cancer diagnosis. It was a short, brutal fight. We never really had time to come to terms with the diagnosis, let alone his death. Before he had his first seizure, it appeared to be in excellent health with decades to look forward to. My mom is understandably really having a hard time, and she asked me to help her look for a therapist. So, I’m asking you all. I appreciate any help or recommendations you have to offer. Downriver is best, but it’s not a problem if they’re not downriver. Thank you.

Edit: thank you everyone, I really appreciate it!

Tribal tattoos

Looking to get my first tattoo and don’t really know where to start with where to go and who to see.

Interested in Hawaiian tribal designs, mostly the makau (Maui’s Hook). If anyone here knows an artist in-state who’s done your work or if you yourself are an artist I’d be interesting in chatting!

Thanks!
