If you want to make federal service a long term career choice then I would stick it out. If you get fired due to RIF then you may be able to get rehired Since RIF casualties can get first priority

Personally I plan to take the VERA. I feel they absolutely will be having to fill some of these positions and there should be opportunities just in the normal attrition of Government retirements. If you can stay I would as long as you can. I know it seems pretty bleak right now but in my 24 year career with DoD it has been fulfilling and a great place to work. When the smoke clears of this drama they are deflecting on Government workers I hope it will be once again a great career choice. Best of luck!!

I'm curious to know how the experts will respond. If your job is not fulfilling, you should seek something that makes you happy; otherwise, you risk becoming unhappy and potentially affecting those around you. However, it’s important to remember that you need a job to survive, which makes this decision challenging. If I were in your position, I would consider waiting it out and seeing if I get laid off (RIFed). This would provide you with unemployment benefits, giving you some time to search for your dream job. For medical insurance, you can participate in COBRA. Once things stabilize, you'll have the option to return if you wish.
