Why was buckshot used to hunt bucks?
So this may sound like a stupid question, but as im coming from a nation where guns and hunting isnt wide spread at all a certain question araised.
With birdshot you obviously hunt birds because you dont need much penetration or stopping power but a lot of projectiles coverinh a somehwat bigger area because...well flying birds are relatively hard to hit.
And for deer or hogs wouldnt the best pick be a slug? My thoughts were: Its not like buckshot would be more accurate (in a smoothbore shotgun), especially at distances where slugs struggle with accuracy. And at smaller distances the spread of buckshot is also pretty small, a least from what i saw on paper targest. Often not bigger than a fist.
So why would you choose buckshot over a slug?
Or what am I getting wrong?
Scope slipping in rings on hunting rifle
Since my last scope failed me I got a new one this week. When I went to shoot with it, the scope moved a bit forward. The rings are made by Dentler and they are basically 2/3 or 3/4 rings. The last scope moved a bit in the rings as well but it stopped after readjusting.
This time the guy at the gun store (different one than last) mounted it using some sort of glue that when dry becomes a lot like rubber. Any idea on what to do to stop it from slipping?
Schmidt & Bender manual says to use a latex glove in the rings, Dentler says to use glue in the lower part of the ring.
May rosin work better? I don't want to permanently glue it to the rings as well, anything that can be removed without damage would be best.
Rifle is a Steyr Gams in .308Win (weighs about 2.4kg/5.3lbs, scope about 0.7kg/1.5lbs and silencer about 0.3kg/0.65lbs)
I shoot with a thermal clip as well which also comes in at around 0.5kg/1.1lb so scope with that is about 1.2kg/2.6lbs.

Family Estate - anything rare?
Opportunity to get this collection, but will have to work with estate and will be tricky to get everything. Anything potentially rare or collectible I should know about? I plan to keep these ‘Ad Infinitum’

Anything you’d do to optimize this space further?
Picked up a 1720 pelican solely for its more compact size compared to the other long cases.
I feel like this is as tight as I can get everything in here, but would like a 2nd set of eyes to either approve or disapprove before I cut

Rimfire gold!
My father's friend gave him a box of random ammunition. Mostly 22lr and 12ga shells. But there was a bag of about 50 what I believe to be 25 Stevens rimfire.

Is this a 100 percent stupid idea?
I have a really cheap old 22 revolver that I got from my dad with some missing hardware that holds the cylinder in. This gun new in perfect condition is barely worth 100 bucks so I don't really feel like buying anything for it. So I had the idea to just 3d print the part and i'm wondering if this is completely unsafe or generally ok. The gun in single action rohm mod.66 revolver with a fixed cylinder. The part would basically just be a rod that would go through the gun holding the cylinder from falling out either side along with a screw to hold the rod in I don't know what it's actually called. I wouldn't think this part to be under very much pressure while shooting so let me know if its a dumb idea or not im probably gonna do it anyway just wanted to know if imma blow my hand off or smth

From 14 years ago: local news report on military gun lubes
I ran into this old local news report on military gun lubes. I suspect that it may be b*ll_sh*t, but would like to hear the opinion of more experienced firearm owners.

Crystallization on AR 15 bolt
Any idea what would cause this?
Roughly around 200 rounds of pmc through and noticed this inconsistency while cleaning.
Last time I cleaned with hoppe’s 9 and lubricated with Lucas gun oil I only wiped down the bold didn’t glob it on.

Won a Taurus GX4 TORO in a gun raffle. Keep or sell?
I know virtually nothing about Taurus firearms. I carry a G19.5 and I’m not interested at all in carrying something else. Is the Taurus GX4 TORO worth keeping or could I get any type of value from trading it in instead?

Would this situation be a justified use of lethal force?
At what point in this encounter was the use of lethal force justified for the person recording, and at what point would he have been at fault if he had chosen to shoot the pirate?

First gun. Should I learn optics iron sights first?
I’ve just recently purchased my first ever handgun. A Sig p365x. I’ve only put a 100 rounds through it so far. I do plan on adding an optic. Should I add the optic now or add it once I’ve got a decent understanding of iron sights?
I’ve been thinking that I’d rather have my initial reflex as the optic and follow it up with iron sights training afterwards.not necessarily learning one and leaving out the other. Any suggestions on an optic for EDC as well please.

Ruger M77 220 Swift and .270 bullets?
My father in law gave me a ruger m77 220 swift and a bunch of ammo for it. The ammo is .270 though, there’s no way that’s correct right? Based on a google search they seem completely different.. is he just confused or maybe he gave me a different rifle than he was thinking of?

Historical help
I’m starting a collection and display and would like some historical advice. If there is a better place to ask this question I would love to be told. I am an nco in the us army and would like to make my start in collecting the firearms issued to ncos in all American wars. I know some wars were specific for nco and some were not. Such as the m1928a1 in wwii. I have a krag and a peacemaker for the Spanish American war, and a m4a1 clone/ m17 for our current weapons. Wondering if there’s anything specific I should get for wwi and everything in between.
