Sleep is literally a cheatcode

I've faced problems with my sleep for probably my entire life, and a couple months ago I got tired and started implementing every sleep habit known to mankind to figure out what would fix it. Fastforward to now, and literally everything is easier, I have more energy, feel happier, everything... For anyone struggling I would recommend the QSleep app, it really helped me, and I'd be more than happy to share what worked and what didn't but FIX YOUR SLEEP

The thing that really helped me get my sleep in order is, never stay up for anything you wouldn't wake up for.

Doesn’t work when your working hours are balls to the wall inconsistent 😢

I’m browsing Reddit at 3am rn. I’m not don’t if correct, am I?

4

u/Pristine-Excuse-3635 3d ago

Can you give an example of this? I’m on my phone looking at Reddit because I can’t sleep. It’s hard to apply this logic atm for whatever reason

13

u/user2847_ 2d ago

This might be too late of a reply. But for example, if you stayed up late scrolling on your phone. Tomorrow morning when you need to wake up (or whenever you need to wake up), would you set your alarm 30 minutes early and wake up earlier to scroll on your phone? Probably not. An opposite example of this is if you have something due the following day, or maybe you’re really into a good tv show and there’s 1 episode left. I have definitely woken up earlier to watch an episode of a show I’m really into.

The point is don’t sacrifice your sleep in the easier way (before bed) if you wouldn’t wake up early to do the thing (which is generally really hard for most people. Waking up I mean lol)

Put it down, lay down and close your eyes. Do not grab your phone back again.

u/sydnicolex 2d ago

Wait, this is so powerful! Thank you!

Makes no sense. I would wake up any time to share some drinks with my friends. Yet I try to avoid staying up too late

So mind sharing which ones worked? Thanks!

Drink tart cherry juice, watch the sunset, braindump, warm shower, paradoxical intent are my top 5 but theres many others

18

u/Chance_Description72 3d ago

Sorry, tart cherry juice? What does that do? And what do you do for your brain dump, write stuff down, dictate it to a device, or talk to your partner? And what's paradoxical intent? (ESL here, so I'm sorry if I'm asking silly questions)

15

u/lncumbant 3d ago

It helps with melatonin production. Actually all the tips suggested do since that a very important step in regulating sleep habit is sleep hygiene in regards to the whole body.

4

u/Chance_Description72 3d ago

Gotcha, what about the other two? Journal or conversations, and what's the last one, never heard of it?

10

u/lncumbant 3d ago edited 3d ago

Journaling for me helps get all my thoughts down on paper so if my mind is racing/anxious thoughts I just journal and eventually I will felt motivated to take action or put the pen down due to exhaustion and wanting to sleep immediately. Showers I feel do to things, help me feel cozy and clean, and relax my body into routine and parasympathetic response, my body can rest in this state. Taking care our mind and body are important. The last thing OP mentioned is some therapy approach addressing fears. I am not informed enough to explain that. But our brain has lot of impact on sleep/dreams recovery. For me my deepest sleep comes sleep mask, magnesium, and sleep mouth tape since for me it’s quality of sleep.

u/Ddesh 2d ago

Maybe this ‘Paradoxical intention in therapy involves encouraging a client to intentionally engage in the very behavior or thought they fear, or to exaggerate it, with the paradoxical outcome of reducing the problem. ’

2

u/Chance_Description72 2d ago

Interesting, thanks, I'll have to ask my therapist about that!

I've struggled with insomnia for my entire life (part of ADHD), and something that has really helped recently is turning off all lights and using candles during my night routine.

I initially heard about this from Huberman Labs, something to do with the light receptors in our eyes being more attuned to light coming from below at night and by using candle light it can help regulate the circadian rhythm more.

What's been really nice is going to blow them out one by one at the end of the night, it helps me get into the sleeping mood. It used to take me thirty minutes to an hour to sleep on a normal night. Now, I fall asleep within five minutes.

Paradoxical intent?

You should just make a post

More engagement for his ad if he doesn't share.

u/erinfirecracker 3d ago

Suspense for what? Sleep tips?

Just Google it. Cut caffeine, exercise, practice mindfulness, etc.

Was recently tested for sleep apnea. I have a mild case. Got a CPAP. Still getting used to it, but the difference is instantly noticeable. Even my face just looks different - more aliveness to it, some rosacea has cleared up a little.

The test is worth it. Super excited to see how things go from here.

3

u/SayNoper 2d ago

Is the test expensive? Can I also know if you face any snoring issues before you had the cpap

2

u/AboveZoom 2d ago

I did have snoring issues before the CPAP. According to my partner, they got pretty bad. I didn’t when I was younger, but developed them when I was older (my 30s).

I wish I could tell you the cost of the sleep test. I went through the VA since I’m a Veteran. My former clinic did have a special office for people to call and ask about the cost of things in advance of getting anything done. You could call and ask straight out.

2

u/SayNoper 2d ago

I see, thanks for the information regardless! Hope that you're feeling better now.

7

u/Playful_Boat_1626 3d ago

I have a hunch that you did it by drinking tart cherry juice, watch the sunset, braindump, warm shower, paradoxical intent for top 5 but there are many others probably

5

u/nachtstrom 3d ago

for me (having insomnia since i was a child) it fixed itself when i got older, i still am up till 05am or 06am but then sleep mostly peacefully until i have to get up for work (which thankfully supports my sleeping habit) but i am 58 now and it was a long and gruesome way to this.

My problem is my circadian rhythm has always been backwards. I’m by no means a morning person, definitely a night owl. The best I’ve ever felt is on 3rd shift. Also I never want to fall asleep but when I do I sleep for a crazy long time. So, basically, everything is wrong with my sleep?

2

u/J3t5et 3d ago

It’s not a cheat code, it’s an essential bodily function

2

u/imaprettypony 3d ago

Keep a schedule, ear buds with white noise, dark and cold room, got an automatic feeder for my cats so they get fed at 5:30am now and don’t usually bother me, read instead of phone in bed. I’m very imperfect at always doing these but they do help.

2

u/probablyasociopath 2d ago

Nice try, QSleep app developer

2

u/mintpie24 2d ago

Try watching the sunset … it really helps resetting the circadian rhythm

Your body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm, is largely regulated by light exposure. The sunset signals the end of the day, which is a natural cue for your body to prepare for sleep.

u/Strange_Doctor_1999 3d ago

Man I am on the way of fixing my sleep, and Im getting 8hrs of sleep but i feel sleepy throughout the day, like I can sleep at any given point if I want, how to fox this??

1

u/Acceptable-Village65 3d ago

Get a sleep test done. I felt the same for a few years, supposedly getting enough sleep, but always tired/sleepy during the day. I was diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (do your research). Just started using a CPap machine to remedy my sleep quality, with the end result being little to no daytime sleepiness. Body and mind still getting used to the machine, can take up until 1 month to see results. Good luck!

1

u/Strange_Doctor_1999 2d ago

From where to get this test done?

1

u/robinbain0 3d ago

Thanks for this. I will try this tonight!

Yup. Had a rough year due to stress at work and it made me realize how important sleep is. Now I force myself to sleep at least 8 hours per night and I feel born again

Sleeping would just give me more energy to be sad rn

1

u/theoberwhere 1d ago

I found that sleeping without a pillow helped me sleep better. Highly recommended. Keep it cool in the bedroom too. You are meant to sleep outside in nature, mimic that.

1

u/jesseinct 1d ago

Good way to launch your app bruv

1

u/zorra_arroz 1d ago

$13 CAD/ month subscription 🤮

1

u/JustDarkz 1d ago

All I did was back when I was 12 or something, I made a rule for myself "Hey, I'm gonna drop everything and go to sleep at exactly midnight!" and that stayed with me for years.

I'll plan out my last hour, not get into games that might take too long for the time I have left, stop talking with friends... etc. I don't break this rule at all besides special events like New Years or something like that. I pretty much get 6-8 hours of sleep everyday with no issues at all.

1

u/visceralbias 23h ago

Downloaded it. Deleted it immediately. Crazy price for yet another sleep app. It’s offering nothing new.

Also, to be asked for a review before even using it is just annoying.
