Needless to say none of those movies was about demonization of a minority, tax relief for the rich, or destroying democracy.
Edit: I really don't understand any of the replies. In these movies, the resistance was not about destroying democracy, demonization of a minority, or tax relief for the rich.
Maybe demonizing the sith.(Still say Anakin Brought Balance to the force, leaving 2 light side and 2 sith...).
Democracy was destroyed by the Emperor though. The resistance was trying to stop him.
If you say Trade negotiations though I will probably block you because !@#$ episode 1
Edit: -2 and no one has illuminated which of the three referenced actions. Destroying democracy, tax relief for the rich (as a primary role), or Demonizing a group is actually being done by the REBELLION. If you downvote at least clue me in on what I'm missing.... but I don't think you can.
They were rebels, and you can call them terrorists (and absolutely would be called that ). That's not the point. They fought the power structure
But the thing is they weren't fighting "democracy". Democracy was destroyed in Episode 3 where Palpatine consolidated power. I mean a key is it was the "Empire" not the Republic at that point but also you saw the elected officials walking away realizing that their democracy was doomed.
"This is how Liberty falls" in Episode 3 again, kind of the key phrase for the turning of what they had into what we see in the sequel. Amazingly they reference that in the video... so maybe you missed that?
I'm not sure what your video is supposed to show because specifically They WEREN'T Demonizing a minority, Tax Relief for the Rich (Again Maybe Lando? But I don't think that was the primary cause of the rebellion) and it was about restoring democracy... He clearly says about the video he's fighting against the empire.
So again I ask, WHICH ONE of those am I wrong about? Don't point to a video that doesn't answer it, if you have an answer just state it clearly.
also democracy in the star wars republic is magically different from democracy in the irl empire. in real life, our empirial elites choose a few of their own oligarchs, then out of those their acolytes whittle down the list, and then finally we are given two oligarchs to choose from.
Absolutely, also thinking about it more, each planet is self governed. Nothing said you can't have a Empire on a planet even in the original Republic... It was expected you send a member to the Galactic Senate. And we know there were slave planets and more at the time.
Though I have a huge bone to pick because Queen Amidala ... now they retconned that by saying "oh she was elected" but I'm pretty sure that's not listed in the original series, and remember she was a main character. Kind of odd that our heroine in the original movie was a monarch. (Retconned to an "elected Monarch" probably because Lucas realized the problem or didn't want her to still be a queen, or realized Luke would technically be a prince then)
... and yet as I write this I just realized... Princess Leia... Leia's mom is apparently a Queen (and that one was not elected either). So interestingly enough there's ABSOLUTELY empires and monarchs and more that will exist even under the New Republic.
Wait... is Han a Prince Consort then? Hey why does that Abyss have eyes.
