Question Cart Point System

This is my first post so forgive me if I make any errors, please just go ahead and tell me.

Today I watched the 1999 cart finale at Fontana, because that season is notorious for the tie between Montoya and Franchitti. Now, can anyone tell me the point distribution system in cart, because I'd like to know how the tie between the two came together. I tried to look it up, but I haven't found it anywhere.

20-16-14-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1, one bonus point for pole, one bonus point for leading the most laps in a race.

Also it's the best points system in the entire world outside of Super GT.

And what is super GT’s setup?

20-15-11-8-6-5-4-3-2-1, points to the top 10. It works super well though because Super GT runs a success ballast system where a car gets 3kg per point earned, and the cars start getting ballast taken off in the last two races. Together this keeps the field pretty close without completely ruining someone's season for having a good race.

Their lower GT300 category is trying a new system this year, but we don't know how good or bad that'll turn out yet.
