I was onsite at IMS today to assist a couple of South American teams with their cars for the “Shell Eco Marathon”. I was excited that it coincided with the Grand Opening of the new and improved IMS Museum!
I was quite impressed with what they have done, it feels like a legitimate modern auto museum. I appreciated the way the cars are displayed and definitely enjoyed the permanent inclusion of NASCAR stock cars.
The video I have attached is from the “Starting Line Experience”. It was pretty cool however I thought it would also have video from inside the car running a lap but sadly the experience ends right as the cars start the first lap.
My only negative opinion is related to the cost. I have spent countless days at the track over my 43 years as a Hoosier and often times I would swing by the museum to kill some time between runs or events, with a $25 cost I will be much more judicious with my attendance.
Overall the folks who designed, planned and implemented the renovation did a spectacular job and the new museum is much more appropriate for a track with the historical significance of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!
