TLDR; Should I even continue with this? Too many technically unrealistic things including a child that screams when aliens are nearby and nothing happens but when others make noise the aliens attack.
No spoilers, please! Still in season 1. Just tell me if it gets even less believable. Walking Dead was better at coloring inside the lines of believability.
I am about to QUIT WATCHING because Sarah cries and yells even though the aliens can hear & then find people (they don’t seem to hear her) AND when the imposter soldiers are following them through the forest.
In the attic. Everyone says be quiet and she starts screeching. Aneesha needs to shut her kid up, since she’s endangering them all. I am right where Ahmed sacrifices his life to distract the thugs from locating his family and his daughter starts screeching again. It literally feels like I am trying to eat dinner in a restaurant with a screaming 7 yo and the parents are saying, “It’s ok, honey!” And I am a mom. I know how to stare my kids into behaving
Imposter (?) soldiers chasing them through the woods, mom is hiding with the kids in the forest, dad gets shot trying to distract them and Sarah screams “Dad!” and starts crying loudly….. totally giving their location away and dad dies in vain.
Anyway, that’s where I am now. As a mom, I would have, first time she endangered us all, given her the mom stare that cuts like a knife and whispered “If you don’t shut up you will get us all killed.” Nope. She starts talking to her, saying, “It’s ok, baby, mom will protect you.”
UNREALISTIC:
I don’t know if I should waste my time any longer:
- How does GI Joe Travante call the United States from a pay phone in London without a credit card or anything, especially after the world is a mess and cell phones don’t work? Some miracle makes the connection work without paying for the overseas call?
Bad screen writers? They wanted to fill in his story as dad of a dead kid, but they could have done it in a conversation with someone, perhaps the guy with the donkey who found his goats?
Casper is in an MRI with wires coming out of his red baron cap. Ok, maybe they are aluminum, but as an electrical engineer, I can tell you that basic electromagnetic theory would tell me that electron holes wouldn’t move in such a strong magnetic field. So that stupid Red Baron cap on Caspar does absolutely nothing. I went into automatic control systems, so maybe I don’t know something, but it’s the MRI that the neurologist is looking at, and Caspar’s seizure triggers on the flashing lights. So the stupid cap totally threw it for me. Also, was there a ring on his finger? Metal in his zipper or buttons? He wasn’t wearing a gown, just street clothes. No decent doctor would allow street clothes in an MRI. Fire can kill the aliens, but not bullets yet no one is carrying flame throwers as a weapon?
Mitsuki is annoyingly egotistical. And she literally knows everything somehow, magically. The breadth and depth of her technical abilities is very unrealistic. In real life, there are specialists and the work together. (Think Apollo 13, which was based on real life. There were engineers working on different problems, being lead by flight director Gene Kranz dor the Apollo 13 mission in Houston.)
Instead of being realistic, the storyline is crammed full of looong intimate interludes with banal conversations & dialogue that does not add depth to the characters. They were obviously trying to fill in dead air or something.
Looking forward to comments on the unrealistic facts & scenarios and whether I should give up.
Even a 5 yo could have shut up. Less than 2 yo? ….maybe no. Around 3 or 4 yo they can see why screaming is a bad idea. Sarah’s screaming, crying, whining and talking when she’s told to be quiet and a monster is coming…..and yet never getting attacked when everyone else is? Not believable. Even if it was just a bad child actor, I would have edited out all the screaming.
