Dem certain Kartel nah run off cause he has enough ties to Jamaica with all the properties and businesses he owns here. Can you say the same for yourself?

u/Key-Television-1411 Jan 29 '25
Can’t think so badman , years now dem a reject kartel ,even reject everyone affiliated with him. Them finally Lego the man t shirt. The embassy probably worried your running off , they do this if they feel you have little ties to your country.

Can’t see him touring outside of NY & Miami. Not really a large market for him.

u/AbbreviationsOk8504 Jan 29 '25
Boston gets most dancehall artists as well, would be shocked if he didn’t come here as well. Plus one of the big dancehall DJ’s in the area VOG is close with him.

u/throwthisTFaway01 Jan 30 '25
Tell me more about dancehall and Boston
2
u/AbbreviationsOk8504 Jan 31 '25
Boston is on most dancehall artists list when they tour the US. When you walk/drive through certain parts of the city, the music you hear most is probably dancehall/reggae, which differs from many cities. Plus Notorious VOG is a local DJ that is tied into the dancehall scene back in JA more than most DJ's outside of Jamaica. Kartel would actually get him some world premier records before even DJ's in NYC, Miami, Toronto, etc..

He'd do well in all the major cities. Especially if he collabs with other artists. He also has old hits with rappers that are popular.
2
u/OneCountry3327 Jan 30 '25
All major cities is a stretch. He’d do well on the East Coast, majority of the people on the West Coast and middle of the country have no clue who he is. I could see him doing 3K capacity venues in major cities outside of the East Coast. With his health, he’d definitely need multiple artists with him.

I'm from Cali we absolutely know who he is. We have annual caribbean, reggae, soca and dancehall events. Also you underestimated how much YTs love black culture in general but especially hip hop, reggae and dancehall. The biggest caribbean annual event outside of Hollywood Carnival is Reggae Fest held at UCLA every year. I live in Houston the 4th Diverse city in the US and again the caribbean culture here is strong.

I’m sure he would have no problem headlining or co-headlining any festival in the U.S., I’m just talking about a general tour. Reggae fest covers 4 major cities outside of the East Coast and LA is not the only major city in California. I’m sure those Reggae Fest cities are easy money for him. SF, SD, SJ, Fresno and Sac, not so much. I live out in the Bay and didn’t find out about Kartel until about 2016.

u/Pandora_Reign1 Jan 30 '25
That's interesting. I wouldve thought the genre be popular in the Bay. They don't have Fests out there? Not even on Lake Merritt
2
u/OneCountry3327 Jan 30 '25
Not too many reggae fests anymore, sadly. Sac had a big Afro Beats fest that had Burna boy headline the second day but people were comparing the first day to Fyre Fest, I’m not sure that continued. Afro Beats definitely has a stronger hold out here. J Boog will bring out the Reggae crowd but festivals are dominated by pop and EDM acts.

It's about time those Damn Africans and Latinos totally stole dancehall and relabeled it. Shouldn't we be cheering him or are we happy with Burna Boy stealing his sound and claiming it for Africa. We have nothing to say that the sound of Jamaica was taken and is now decidedly not Jamaican. In the grand scheme of things he's made thousands while copy cat artists have made millions. I know he has his faults but come on Jamaica we need to get eyes back on us for the music like it was in the 2000s I hope he wins a Grammy and not another white brand from middle America. Like it always seems to be. Anyone remember Snow or SOJA?? Come on Jamaica have some fucking pride for once.

Why y’all hate the world boss so much he keeps Jamaica relevant and boost tourism
18
u/Shack24_ Jan 28 '25
Tourist sector and jamaica does not need him to stay relevant or to get a boost (I don’t hate him just stating that )
16
u/TaskComfortable6953 Jan 28 '25
most tourists have no clue who he is. you think white folks generally know anything about dancehall?
