As a 35 year old who grew up playing rainbow six 3, and ghost recon titles, this hurts to see.
19
u/muscarinenya 2d ago
Right ?
Ultimately it's sad, we'd all be better off if Ubisoft was making good games
But, fuck them still
19
u/Fun_Score5537 2d ago
AC 1&2 was sooo freaking good to play through as a young teen. They really revolutionized world traversal with the climbing mechanics. It's sad how greed and the rainbow ideology is more important than having fun and making fun products.

u/scotty9090 2d ago
AC 1 was one of the things that got me through the tough part of my divorce. I have fond memories of that game.
10
u/One_Distribution7972 2d ago
Just realize the people that made your favorite games aren't there anymore. They moved on years ago. And the few that remain know very well the company isn't what it used to be even if they publicly claim to support the communist initiatives.Â

u/Banana_rammna 2d ago
A man of class would have played splinter cell. In fact can I buy the license to the franchise?
6
u/ThisAintDota 2d ago
My uncle was a huge splinter cell guy, pandora tomorrow was my first splinter cell. I replayed black list last year and was shocked at how good it held up. Their older games were truly ahead of their time.

Is now the time to invest? Do I drop a grand on this just so I can capture their glorious comeback when they release Assassin’s Creed Africa, with the main character being Christopher Columbus?
26
6
u/One_Distribution7972 2d ago
If they ever made an Africa game like that it would all be about how evil white Christian men are.Â
8
u/foxtrotdeltazero 2d ago
see that's the what's crazy... if there were actually any significant african assassins in history in africa, it would be pretty dope to play a storyline with that. i don't even care how ridiculous it could be, as long as the artstyle lines up and the lore/plot/storyline is interesting.
something like african masks as a mechanic would be great. they're really cool looking and it would be awesome if the main protag could swap out masks for different abilities/skills/etc. just things like that. i would love AC again.
this yasuke dude who isn't even an assassin, just brute forcing his way through everything... why the fuck is he in AC? even aside from his historical insignificance and the mismatched setting, it makes no damn sense

I thought Valhalla had over a billion in revenue, and taking into account the cost to make, making it a super successful game, no?
13
u/StJimmy92 2d ago
Yeah, it made over a billion. Best first week sales in AC history, #5 best selling game of 2020, #16 best selling game of 2021, and hit $1b in a year and a half (released in August 2020, hit $1b in February 2022)

u/pdcGhost 2d ago
I agree with you, what I am also saying is that Assassins Creed shadows had to make a profit AND make up for the prior failures of previous games.
5
u/foxtrotdeltazero 2d ago
shadows successfully ensured i won't spend a dime on assassin's creed anytime soon
19
u/thedemonjim 2d ago
Eh, all Ubisoft has shown is a player number, not sales figures, and this game had a ton of ways to get to play it without laying down one red cent so...

34
u/CatatonicMan 2d ago
Well, they did carve off the most valuable parts of the company and licensed them over to a similar but legally distinct company that's not technically part of Ubisoft.
I can't imagine the Ubisoft shareholders being all that happy about the goings-on.

Which post?

u/Gaming_Goodness 2d ago edited 2d ago
The one that went something like: "Go woke, get bro - err, Top of the Charts!" (In regards to Veilturd.)
And then when it went to anywhere BUT the top of the charts, he deleted it.
And now it gets quoted and paraphrased a lot because of its thundering inaccuracy and hysterical wrongness.
68
u/AvatarADEL 2d ago
But but they ratioed Elon on Twitter. That was a massive win wasn't it? How could they be facing getting shut down? They had a massive win on social media. All those people supporting them on SM surely went out and bought a copy of their game?

Ubi stock is crashing because they're divesting their money earning titles like assassin's creed to "ubisoft2" a subsidiary company with better #'s for the line to go up (also for them and tencent to avoid a hostile takeover)

To be totally fair....the entire market has been crushed the last two days because of tariffs/trade war.
Both Ubisoft and the US market are down ~10% over the last two days.
But the broader point is spot on. A horribly run, debt ridden company with awful corporate governance. The Tencent deal isn't good for shareholders, it's good for the existing management and the market has treated them accordingly.
28
u/Cthulhulakus 2d ago
It started dropping on march 28th
14
u/bitorontoguy Blackrock VP 2d ago
Yeah, the day after they announced the awful, shareholder unfriendly deal with Tencent.
But it's been dropping for far longer than that because of the state of their balance sheet and most recent sales.
5
u/Zippyllama 2d ago
I wonder if we will find inflated #’s based on the proximity to the acquisition and the stark contrast between steam and Ubisoft player base? This is not an accusation, as I have no knowledge, just seems odd.

OP, I don't know if you realized, but the entire stock market is crashing this year due to our president starting a trade war. The NASDAQ-100 is down 17.16% YTD. So Ubisoft has only barely underperformed the NASDAQ
Also Tesla is the opposite of woke, and they are down 36.87% YTD
1
u/Puzzled_Constant_547 2d ago
I don't think Tesla is the best example for the trade war scenario as they have a lot of other things going on but you make a valid point.Â

u/skilliard7 2d ago
the point is the "go woke go broke" is nonsense, being anti woke kills your stock price.

Honestly, woke pandering - while it is definitely doing them no favors - is probably not even in the top 3 of the worst strategic decisions Ubisoft's made to torpedo their company over the last decade.
-18
u/ZombieBlarGh 2d ago

Dude... Have you even looked at the info in the link you post.. you literally proof my point...
If you use your finger instead of only your eyes you will see the have been they have been as low as 2,50.. a long time around 5.
Their highest peak was probably around when they fused with Blizzard
Like I said. They have been way higher and way lower.. but saying this is their lowest is 100% absolute bullshit.

-2
u/StoopidRoobutt 2d ago
Unfortunately this happens with every group and movement. The narrative becomes, or is from the start, more important than the truth, and in the long run it just hurts the group/movement. It gives the opposition ammunition.
-21
u/KhanDagga 2d ago
Nobody knows how well this game did or didn't do except Ubisoft.
6
u/idontknow39027948898 2d ago
No, only Ubisoft knows just how badly the game did. We can all tell that the game did horribly, or they would be talking about how much money it made, instead of how many players they have.
-13
u/Gorp900 2d ago
Got any insights into why Ubi's stock is dropping or are you just gonna cry that its entirely the fault of AC Shadows?
There are many reasons to dislike ubisoft between their gross monetizations, forced imbalance of their games to incentivise said monetization, their attempts at removing ownerships rights to your own games, their mistreatment of their own employees...
3
u/slavdude04 2d ago
Woke copy pasted slop.
-4
u/Gorp900 2d ago
Your gonna need to elaborate, those buzzwords mean nothing to most nornal people.
Also do people here really like Ubisoft? My points about their industry practices seem to be getting downvotes so i guess people are defending Ubi...

Of course, the most heinous of crimes that a game company can make, the most unforgivable circumstance; including a black character!
Definitly much worse on the scale of things compared to their mistreatment of staff, or the constant push to monetize as many aspects of their games as possible. You never hear of those things on KIA though.
1
u/slavdude04 2d ago
Fake samurai in Japan? Yes. Monetization is also shitty.
I don't give a damn about their woke staff.

3 million players guise. It's not even top 70 in the steam charts but there are 3 million leprechauns playing this game on console.
