Gear - Tech Issue Sony UTX-B40 transmitter -- can't change frequency?

Post image

Hi all, I just rented a set of Sony UTX-B40 transmitters with a URX-P41D dual-channel receiver for 2-persom interviews. I am having a couple issues:

1) I can change the frequency on the receiver, but not on the transmitters. When I hold down the SET button on the transmitters, the H symbol in the top left of the display starts flashing, but nothing else is changeable.

2) Both of the transmitters are set to the same frequency. When just one transmitter is on, it sounds great. When I turn on the second transmitter, they are both overwhelmed with static. Hence why I want to change the frequency on one.

The manual says I should be able to change the frequency by holding SET on this screen. Is this a case of operator error or did LensRentals send me faulty gear?

Thanks!

To change frequency, hold the POWER and SET buttons at the same time when powering the unit on. Change the frequency and then power cycle.

Omg, that did it. Thank you so much!

Haha I own 4 of these as backups / for a small commercial rig I rent out. Every. Time. I use them I have to look in the manual to remember how to change freqs.

They actually work quite well!

Such an annoying design choice. I own Sennheisers lavs, and the idea of not being able to change frequencies super easily had never occurred to me.

It is weird. I think their design idea was to set the receiver and change the transmitter over IR IIRC?

I have a feeling the idea is “prosumer customers should just set and forget”

IIRC, you need to turn off transmission before changing groups/channels on Sony packs.

There is also a sync I think :-) Scan and set on RX and sync on TX.

Each transmitter should be on its own frequency. They are interfering with each other. You need a receiver for each transmitter.

No, the URX-P41D is a dual channel receiver, so it accepts two frequencies. Once I got help figuring out how to change the transmitter frequency, both transmitters sound great.

Ok, you need a receiver ‘channel’ for each tx. Glad it’s working!
