Y’all. If you want to know and love people like this in your own life… VOLUNTEER! Meals On Wheels is just one example of what you can do in just two hours a week and meet hundreds of Doug’s. :)

I used to do that as a teen on my bike (with my parents dw) and we met so many amazing seniors. We'd go see them when we weren't on our route too. Definitely seconding that recommendation!
