Reminds me of when my husband was just my best friend. And the longer we were friends the longer the hugs got....not wanting to let go but not wanting to admit the crush.
It's been almost 30 years and I still remember those feelings like it was yesterday.
I'm slightly confused. Which part was the lovely memory? Are you back together again and like married or something? I was gonna ask why you broke up in the first place but that might be a harder question to answer maybe.
I was in love with my best friend in high school. She gave me the longest hugs, it escalated into holding hands, cuddling while watching movies together, slept in the same bed a dozen times, kissed once, talked all day every day, she would regularly text me "I love you", but in the end she didn't actually want to date me. Biggest heartbreak of my life.
It definitely stirred some core memories for me too. I specifically remember before any real intimacy looking forward to good-byes because it was just assumed that you'd hug, and wondering if it would be the first time you'd kiss. Powerful feelings, I'm really glad to have this memory.

I’m so happy that Ring doorbells did not exist when I was a teenager.
