Dang. That really touched me. Tanner is just an amazing bright light in this world.

Same with Ol Jacky boi.

u/STEELCITY1989 1d ago

I've definitely seen clips of Jables (Jack Black) interacting with kids and he genuinely seemed engaged and they loved him.

31

u/Insert_Non_Sequitur 1d ago

Yeah, he's just awesome.

52

u/itssosalty 1d ago

Human version of a golden retriever. And I mean that as the biggest compliment

Having had friends with siblings on the spectrum, lowkey I was expecting him to be upset because he wasn’t 31 yet 😂

1.1k

u/sambones 1d ago

He's only 26 so plenty of time to make plans to meet Jack Black when he's 31.

309

u/Alarocky1991 1d ago

Solid loophole, I love it

99

u/SilkRoadGuy 1d ago

The hostess also fixed it for him. She said “now you got to meet Jack Black ‘before’ 31“.

74

u/fauxzempic 1d ago

It's a reverse Mitch Hedberg.

"My goal was to Meet Jack black at 31. It used to be my goal but it still is too!"

5

u/ItsStaaaaaaaaang 1d ago

Oh, didn't realise he was so young. And he's got plans to move at 44! I figured he was late 30s or something and that's why the year was so specific. Well, good on him for setting goals.

My little sister was friends with a boy who isn't on the spectrum, that cried on his birthday because he wanted to be 6. Everyone was staring at him while she ate her cake like nothing was happening lol.

48

u/polopolo05 1d ago

To be fair. I want to be 6 too.

20

u/DefiantLemur 1d ago

He might still be on the spectrum still. A lot of people don't get a diagnosis until their adults.

7

u/EitherInvestment 1d ago

Just a heads up, prepare to be touched in a way you might not be prepared for. This show, though I love it, was emotional as hell for me. It truly is beautiful, and I hope you like it.

381

u/OlafTheBerserker 1d ago

I'm a cynical asshole kind of guy but this show honestly gives me the warm fuzzies. The unrelenting positivity of all of the stars, especially Tanner, is infectious. I want to be more like Tanner

112

u/SlappyDingo 1d ago

Dude I was about to comment the same almost verbatim and agree 100%. This guy is blessed with evolved brain genes. If Pfizer could synthesize his positivity you'd find me providing services behind a 7-11. Watched most of the season today feeling pretty jealous.

36

u/Repulsive_Buy_6895 1d ago

If Pfizer could synthesize his positivity you'd find me providing services behind a 7-11.

What?

86

u/Burn_The_Earth_Leave 1d ago

They're saying they would suck dick for drugs that make them as positive as this dude.

28

u/Repulsive_Buy_6895 1d ago

Or if they were on drugs that made them as positive as this dude they'd be sucking dicks all day.

16

u/hardatit39 1d ago

If I was on that drug I’d stop sucking dicks all day.

Well...

1) You're clearly still capable of that enthusiasm. Maybe a little less enthusiastic on the services performed?

2) It's like he's everything we are as children and fortunate enough to keep that aspect of his self with him into adulthood.

But, we've all got that inner child in us if we want to let them shine, right?

(Also, oxytocin. You can boof oxytocin until then.)

Our youngest has some significant speech delay (among other special needs). I was blowing bubbles for her one evening when she had just turned two and she looked at me and said, clear as day, “Bubbles.” And then she proceeded to make blowing noises and smiled at me.

I was a mess of tears and joy for the rest of the night.

5

u/Dimos1963 1d ago

You’ll carry that moment for the rest of your life, and she probably will too in her own way. You might say you’re a cynical asshole, but it’s clear your heart’s in the right place. She’s lucky to have you.

34

u/Carrera_996 1d ago

I have a 9 year old daughter that gets tears of happiness out of me on the regular. Speaking is so very hard for her that when she does, it is profound.

14

u/Beautiful-Whole-3102 1d ago

This season was possibly one of my fav seasons of a reality tv show ever

31

u/Rare-Chipmunk-3345 1d ago

I just finished it today. Yes, I binged it. And I have to say, it was the best season yet. Abbey’s song she sang for David made me fucking bawl my eyes out. Connor getting his first kiss?! Amazing. I’m so happy for everyone on the show. I love how progressive James is. When his dad said happy wife, happy life. And James said how about happy spouse, happy house? Fucking gold. They’re all incredible people.

Same. I love this sub, but to be honest most the time it’s not “made me smile,” and is usually “made me feel slightly better about humanity,” or maybe if it’s really good “made me smirk.”

When he would’t let go of Jack though and was essentially talking a cm from his face the whole time repeating his name, I couldn’t help but smile.

36

u/T-MoneyAllDey 1d ago

Luckily, he was doing that to one of the most coolest human beings around and I'm sure Jack Black wasn't bothered at all.

I would be so stressed in Jacks position, but I'm glad he's fully able to handle it. Someone that close would make me very uneasy, even if I know there's a good reason for it.

But yeah, 110% golden retriever.

78

u/VannKraken 1d ago

Pretty sure he knew who Tanner was in advance.

100

u/CommercialSun_111 1d ago

I could be 100% prepared for it and would still struggle with that level of intensity/personal space. It’s really impressive how smoothly Jack navigated the entire interaction and made it such a positive experience for everyone

Anybody else insanely jealous of people who can find that level of joy in anything? Like, not manufactured joy for social media but actual unadulterated pure joy.

113

u/SusieGlass0420 1d ago

Agree! May we all find something/reason to feel this level of joy atleast once in our lifetime.

374

u/PrufReedThisPlesThx 1d ago

It's something anyone can achieve, and much easier than you think! It's all to do with your perspective, and your attitude. When you're in a coffee shop, and there's crying babies, and loud talkers, and lots of people, instead of stressing about everyone else, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and focus on what you came here for: the coffee. Allow yourself to move past the inconvenience and not let it sour your enjoyment. If you figure out a difficult part of a larger project, celebrate that small victory!

When you're serious all the time, you're not having any fun. You're tense, easily stressed, and your mentality is "I haven't got time for fun, I gotta get this done". But there's fun in everything you do. You don't need to goof off or treat it as unimportant or anything, but there's still ways to make it less tedious. For example, making a beat! Get into the groove of things and make your actions rhythmic! Hell, that sometimes makes you work faster since you're giving yourself energy and motivation to keep that flow going~

Start looking for ways to enjoy the stuff you don't enjoy, drop the super serious attitude, and celebrate the small victories. That's how you set yourself on the path to unadulterated joy in life. It's something anyone can do with enough practice

20

u/Desperate-Strategy10 1d ago

I couldn’t have said it better myself, great job! This is what people need to be doing if they want to be truly happy. It’s all to do with your perspective; literally everything else is just a canvas onto which you get to paint your personality. It takes a little time and a lot of conscious reminders, but eventually you just start to wake up happier, it gets easier to find the joy in life, and when something knocks you down, you get better at jumping back up. Practice makes perfect!

18

u/SkizzleDizzel 1d ago

The craziest craziest most insane thing that I've realized as an adult is that the reason I personally have not been able to achieve that is because of my fear of judgment from other people. I've worked on that (still working on it) and God damn I'm more self confident and happier than I've ever been. Working towards not giving a fuck what other people think is a game changer man

7

u/PrufReedThisPlesThx 1d ago

Oh yeah, shaking that fear of judgement is hard, I agree. I'm battling that as well, and the reasons behind those fears are an even bigger challenge to face. But you're right, it's so rewarding to exist independently to other's lables and just be you

I call it “looking for glimmers,” but it’s really just being open to experiencing the beauty- going outside and looking for the tags of my favorite street artists, peeping that little bit of moss finding its way through a concrete wall, witnessing a driver slow down so someone can cross the street to juuuust catch a bus- this is life at its best and it makes every day a bit brighter

5

u/PrufReedThisPlesThx 1d ago

There's a manga in Japan called Chiikawa that I heard about recently that actually personifies this kind of lifestyle, albeit in a very infantalised way. There's a billion things we take for granted because we often forget to look beyond ourselves and really observe the world around us, and taking the time to actually see them and appreciate them absolutely makes the world a much more interesting and full of life!

I used to genuinely get that kind of joy from drugs. The feeling when I would start to notice the drugs releasing into my blood. Then I stopped doing drugs and turned 30 and had a kid and now I feel that excited joy when I get home from work and my 2 yr old screams “is that my daddy? Omg it’s my daddy!!!”

15

u/driftwood-and-waves 1d ago

The sense of joy and fun that enters your life when you have kids, especially when they get to the toddler age is amazing. Christmas is fun again. You get to be totally excited about digging in the mud for dinosaur bones. And jumpy castles. The welcome that you get when you come home, like you hadn't just seen the tiny human 8 hours ago, can really really put things in perspective.

I thought about this years ago. My brother used to work at a group home and one of the residents with Down's was one of the happiest people I have ever met in my life. From caring for the house pets to hearing his favorite song, everything he did and experienced was the greatest thing ever. Every time. I wish I could feel a 10th of that joy from the things I like, but like so many people I'm just weighed down by everything else in the world.

I jokingly refer to Jack Black as a heavy metal Keanu Reeves. He's so kind to his fans. A saint of graciousness.

I was actually driving one time and I didn't realize it but Jack Black was behind me in traffic and some other people noticed him and they rolled down their windows and they were singing probably something from Tenacious D to him and he rolled the windows down and sang it back to them while they were behind me in rush hour traffic in LA.

Cool guy.

38

u/NotNamedBort 1d ago

I met him when he was in Portland a few years ago, and I recommended some cool places for him to visit while he and his family were in Oregon. He was really sweet and appreciative, and I don’t know if he ever actually went to the Bigfoot museum, but he sure seemed excited about it. 😆

13

u/Indyhawk 1d ago

Oh you know he did. Bigfoot museum seems to be the exact type of place Jack Black would visit.

5

u/No_Chain3955 1d ago

That story about Jack Black singing back to people in traffic is awesome! He seems like a truly genuine and kind person.

I literally posted about my daughter's friend last night.

When my oldest was in college, she befriended a kid around her age who was on the spectrum. He was a big Swiftie, so they bonded over that.

He competed in special Olympics and was a big basketball fan and had been his highschool team's equipment manager.

One year at new Year's he laid out his goals for the coming year.

  1. He wanted to be on the court at Rupp arena during a basketball game (we live in central Kentucky).

  2. He wanted to represent Kentucky in the national special Olympics.

  3. He wanted to meet Taylor Swift.

Perfectly doable.

In February his former high school team won their regional tournament and played in our state's sweet sixteen.....in Rupp Arena. The coach invited him to come along and sit on the bench One month in, and one box checked.

That spring, he won his events at state special Olympics and went to Nationals. He won his events there and wound up representing team USA at the special Olympics world games in Athens Greece that summer.

Meatloaf said Two Outta Three Ain't Bad, but this kid wasn't having it.

In October, Taylor Swift was coming to town. Somehow that kid wound up winning some sort of radio station contest and wound up meeting her before the concert

It was like something out of a movie, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer kid.

Anyone who isn't familiar with who Tanner is, please do yourself a favour and watch " Love on the Spectrum". It's a show following people in the autism spectrum in their struggles for relationships.

It's a heartwarming show.

206

u/anonymous237962 1d ago

I love Tanner sm. I have mixed feelings about the show (questions of the grey area of exploitation?) but I love that he is happy & support him 1000%

113

u/rasinette 1d ago

I was worried too but from my research it seems like the two creators Cian and Karina both have a history in documentary series about marginalized groups, and work really closely with the people on the show and their families to keep it ethical and respectful

I also got a little worried that all the noise and excitement might overstimulate Tanner a bit, but every autistic person is different

I have only seen a few things with Tanner, but he seems to glow in the spotlight in them. When I saw a clip of him on a date he was more muted (but still very much golden retriever) so I think he really enjoys it.

3

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot 1d ago

12

Omg, their energies colliding was like the supernova of greetings! This made me so happy to see!

I love Tanner’s positivity, and to see him so overjoyed was heartwarming. After watching LotS, I didn’t think it was possible for him to get any more amped. Enter Jack Black

Tanner’s a blueprint for the best of humanity: Living in the moment, with earnest gratitude for every good experience that comes his way. What a way to be. 💛

As a mama of 3 ASD kids, this is killing me. But in such a good way.

I love Jack Black so much. Even though Tanner was clearly too much into his personal space, he stuck in there with him. Straight to the top of my favorite people for this one.

10

u/Emergency--Yogurt 1d ago

Jack Black is the real deal. I worked at an entertainment venue in Las Vegas for a few years, and when he came through, he stood in line like anybody else, and was astonished when he had his ticket comped by management. “That’s crazy,” he laughed.

He’s really this guy we see on camera. Not all celebs are this awesome.

Jack Black is probably one of the most genuine people when he meets people. He is just excited and happy to meet them.

7

u/BenjaminDover02 1d ago

Jack Black did like 3 mainstream sorta bad movies and now a weird amount of people suddenly have really shit takes about him

Bro is just chillin and cashing in a few easy cheque's

He's still a nice guy that is entirely unproblematic, so if you have a problem with him then that's probably something you should talk to a professional about.
