It's Crossfit, look at her form for doing the snatch, she's been taught no control or form and that shit can ruin your entire body if you don't do it right. There's a big reason why she fucked up her ankle in the beginning and it all has to do with crossfit.

I completely agree. This is my mine beef with CrossFit. They are constantly pushing you to do/lift more more and more

She’s lucky she was able to recover from that injury without permanent damage

Yep - CrossFit is just counting down the time until you get injured.

CrossFit: Quick gains and frequent pains.

Can attest: ankle reconstruction due to box jumps on my first day of CrossFit. That place is toxic.

Also to do it all really fast. Do it right. Not fast.

Lift until EXHAUSTION which is exactly how you break form and hurt yourself

Friends don't let friends do crossfit.

Yea her elbow was way over extended on that lift. Right about to get a new injury. Great coaches!

Her elbows were not over extended, and when you snatch you catch the bar with arms fully extended. Check out r/weightlifting they can teach you a bit.

This. Theres a lot of CrossFit hate going on here but it's all about the gym and the instructor. It's like any other kind of working out: you need to be consistent with practicing your movements and need to be pushing yourself in a way that makes sense for your body. I go to CrossFit at a good gym with good instructors who care about you not doing things wrong and it's a fantastic experience.

Huh? Her snatch looked completely fine. I don’t ever see at any point her elbow overextending. Her catch position was pretty good although she caught it a bit soft.

I don't know how you were able to see her snatch in this video. She was fully dressed.

Show you know nothing about Olympic weightlifting without saying it^

That’s how you catch a snatch. It didn’t look bad

yeah this is pretty fucked. she shouldve started with low impact sports like swimming or cycling with a balanced diet to lose the fat.

fucking unethical.

9

u/OafishSyzygy 1d ago

Maybe her main goal isn't to lose fat, but to become good at crossfit.

9

u/adrian783 1d ago

the point isnt her losting fat. the point is that cross fit exercises are unnecessarily demanding and CF has a reputation of "fuck it we ball". that combined with her being fat is a recipe for permanent injuries.

I also have a distaste for crossfit. I've done this before. Landed on both shins, and bruised the bone on my right tibia. So, I don't even agree that she should be doing crossfit, but I wouldn't ever tell others what sports to practice. If it works for her, then more power to her. Life is short, and we all accrue a few injuries in the process if we've done half the living that we should.

If she knows it and is fine with it, that’s her choice. I had my bad experiences with crossfit too, before I knew anything about fitness. I would never do any timed strength training again for example. It does not make any sense, no matter your fitness level.

Just tell us you know nothing about snatching

2

u/OwlOfFortune 1d ago

Her snatch form is fine? What are you even talking about, what more control would you like to see. It looks like she was redlining the lift, but she still rode the bar down to the bottom of her squat, which is what you're supposed to do. She shouldn't have been doing those box jumps, and I would never have a new athlete go for that tall of a box but weird to point out the snatch specifically.

Like the first lift she did around the one minute mark. She changes grip a few times throughout. But maybe that's a CrossFit lift I'm not aware of. Kinda like their "pull up" style. On further review, yeah, her form afterward is good, it was just that first lift that made my butthole pucker.

u/OwlOfFortune 1d ago

You mean the clean and jerk? Yeah it's not ideal to have hands slide in, as it weakens the third pull, but it's not abnormal to reset your hands after the clean before the jerk. I do worry that you can't tell a clean&jerk from a snatch and want to give form critiques.

The whole thread is full of expert while that woman squats more than 99.5% of them lmao

u/Legal-Alternative744 1d ago

Okie dokey, no need to worry about me my friend, I don't care that much about this

u/No-While-9948 1d ago

I don't know if CrossFit got her to do box jumps or if she did it on a whim, so I can't add judgment there, even though I do agree CrossFit is silly. Box jumps are also a good exercise and aren't specific to CrossFit.

REGARDLESS of that, doing box jumps as an obese person is just a straight-up bad idea. Stick with more static exercises.

There's a big reason why she fucked up her ankle in the beginning and it all has to do with crossfit.

Does anyone know what shoe she was wearing during her fall? It looked to me like those Vibram toe-finger shoes that provide no ankle support.

Not all are like this :( my gym always shows progressions for the movements. She probably should be doing box step ups rather than jumping on that high of a box. People ego lift all the time I see it in crunch and at my CrossFit gym.

u/Mental-Attempt- 1d ago

Right, I watched this and with most of her exersizes i asked myself.... Is she just trying to kill herself?

Crossfit only "works" for some people because of the social aspect of it. Which by all means I hate seeing someone get fit with cross-fit, but whatever it takes.

Which is why you see some newer gyms (like orange theory and F45) try to capitalize on the social aspect but not the danger of cross fit.
