How did he make it look decent on a modern tv? I tried to play star wars racer on my flat panel and it looked like a kaleidoscope.

Perhaps he’s running it on an emulator using something such as /r/retropie

You can see the 64 just behind him, when he steps to the side. Both controls are plugged in and it’s powered on.
