u/Wonderwhile Nov 19 '22

I would dip the fuck out if I saw a manager at a restaurant open carry a gun. But I’m Canadian so that may be why

49

u/1527lance Nov 20 '22

I'm American and own guns and would dip out as well.

12

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

I'm American

I'd also dip the fuck out if I walk into a restaurant and the manager is strapped. I genuinely wonder at the emotional/mental stability of anyone who thinks they need a gun on them as they go about their day.

-2

u/battlefeversteve Nov 20 '22

I don’t, because I mind my own business lol

6

u/LiterallySweating Nov 20 '22

Minding ones own business would mean not carrying a gun you twat.

-1

u/bibliophile785 Nov 20 '22

"No, don't do that thing entirely on your own that only affects you and has nothing to do with me! That's my business, because I don't like it! Minding your own business means only doing things I like!"

Look, no one will ever manage to stop you from shitting on people for having different cultural values to your own. You might be able to manage doing so in a factually consistent manner. People can mind their own business and still do things that cause you to think or behave In a certain manner. What you're really trying to say is that you can't or don't see why you should mind your own business because you feel your emotional comfort is more important than the other person's wants and needs regarding their own comportment.

Wouldn’t you also leave if the manager was walking around with a combat knife? I would definitely question what sort of establishment I’m in if the manager feels the need to be armed.

Swear to god if I went into a Restaurant and the Manager carried around a gun and/or knife I'd just turn around and leave.

64

u/dafunkmunk Nov 20 '22

I don't think I'd be too interested in eating at a restaurant where an 18 yr old became manager after only working there for 4 months. Place sounds like it's a sinking ship. I don't have any faith in that kitchen being up to code and I'm not interested in getting a horrible case of food poisoning

11

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22 edited Nov 20 '22

I'm with you. I've been a line cook for 15 years, and I had to do over a year in the dish pit before I was even aloud to make salads, and another 5 years before I was even in a position become a manager or head chef/sous chef.

He's been legal to work for 4 years, and has 4 months experience at this particular restaurant. I'd be very interested to see how this place runs.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

that's basically every fast food restaurant, including pizza joints. A real adult may be the store manager, but 18 year old me was a shift manager at dominoes. The requirements are a pulse, ability to deal with shitty working conditions and low pay, and 8th grade math.

u/RainNo9218 Nov 20 '22

I went to a sandwich joint today and there was a sign on the wall. It essentially said "we encourage you to bring guns in here, but if you need to use it, please aim well." Everyone behind the counter had a MAGA hat on. I did a 180 and walked out fuck that shit.

19

u/Facebookakke Nov 19 '22

100%

If one of my managers showed up strapped they’d be fired

Dang, what a reference. I suddenly feel like a grandpa because I haven’t thought of Whitaker or that movie in decades.

Making fun of people for how they look, regardless of minor political or social differences, is pretty shitty.

54

u/nurtunb Nov 19 '22

It's okay to make fun of people bringing toy knives to work because they can't carry guns yet.

-34

u/Vanquish_Dark Nov 19 '22

No, no its not. It's shit behavior. If he feels better, safer, or more empowered with it. Fuck it. If he isn't a nitwit all good. Little weird? Sure. Would I do it? No. Live and let live though damn. This is the same kinda energy people have in high-school while making fun of the Magic the Gathering kids in lunch. Fuck I'm tired. Tired of people dictating outlier behavior without any sort of empathy.

22

u/Facebookakke Nov 19 '22

Carrying a weapon and playing mtg ain’t the same.

Carrying deadly weapons around on full display is not the same as playing magic.

13

u/Mrpoopypantsnumber2 Nov 20 '22

No, its not mtg is like innocent and nerdy. A machete is dangeroux and not needed to be a manager.

Les knives dangereux

1

u/bibliophile785 Nov 20 '22

Just remember that the average Redditor is young and stupid. They honestly, truly believe a lot of the ridiculous echo chamber nonsense about how [X behavior from outgroup member] is dangerous and unhinged. They don't see a kid from a different walk of life taking responsibility for his own safety. That's what's being pictured, but they've got an internal narrative suggesting that he's going to be the next school shooter pizza joint stabber. This ostracization is a very petty, very human attempt to either expel the threat from the tribe or ridicule it into line. Given a couple decades more experience, some of these commenters will realize that you can't actually mock someone into adopting your core values. In the meantime, we get to deal with their shit.

(And for the record, I say all this as someone who would never be caught dead open carrying anything, yet alone a ridiculous knife like that. Whether or not any of us wants to be armed is a personal choice, but choosing to open carry invites conflict and makes you look like a tool. Still not something to shit on him for.)

5

u/TheFuckOffer Nov 19 '22

Pretty sure they mean their expression

35

u/Imightbeworking Nov 19 '22

How can he “finally” be manager if he is so young

14

Whack job

3

u/throwaway901617 Nov 20 '22

Wearing the standard issue personal security uniform of a blue polo and khakis with a tacticool "sidearm" and some EDC gear in the pockets.

3

u/Connor30302 Nov 20 '22

Id be more comfortable with being around someone openly carrying a pistol (granted it’s a regular person and it’s stored right) because something about big combat knives make me feel uneasy, like it’s added for violence rather than actual protection

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

Look at his belt, he either already is carrying, or hes practicing?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '22

WTF.

I mean, I kinda get it - my inner child is definitely a mall ninja. But I grew up in the 1980s with all the Ninja movies, and so on. And even I knew not to open carry a giant knife like that.

-21

u/dannyboi9393 Nov 19 '22

And?

53

u/tbbHNC89 Nov 19 '22

Only dorks open carry.

Get a CCW and shut the fuck up.

44

u/flyingblenderguy Nov 19 '22 edited Nov 19 '22

Yep. Open carry is essentially just legalized brandishing.

“You all better watch out! I have a gun! Respect my authorotaehh!”

17

u/-Unnamed- Nov 19 '22

Plus it automatically makes you the most likely person to take the first bullet in any sort of situation that arises

13

u/Balancedmanx178 Nov 19 '22

Or just get your gun yoinked. It seems like the people who open carry are all out here with it hanging off the back corner of their waist with nothing but gravity holding it in.

It would be so easy to walk up, grab it, disarm the obvious threat and have 2 guns instead of one.

Open carry is so stupid.

19

u/tbbHNC89 Nov 19 '22

I've never seen someone open carry who didn't have hiking shoes, mid-shin length socks and a polo tucked into their tan shorts.

Like legitimately never.

5

u/Gidia Nov 19 '22

I saw an old guy open carrying once and I’m pretty sure he was wearing jeans. His shaking hands however did not fill me with confidence.

4

u/ExpensiveGiraffe Nov 19 '22

Beer belly folded over the rim of the tan shorts.

4

u/flyingblenderguy Nov 19 '22

Maybe they are open carrying because they were bullied a lot?

1

u/dannyboi9393 Nov 19 '22

Exactly! That's what I'm getting at.

I agree with you 100%

-2

u/stefek132 Nov 19 '22

Only dorks open carry.

FTFY

6

u/tbbHNC89 Nov 19 '22

I'm a queer Jewish man in the middle of a red state with active anti-lgbt groups, hate groups and a law that says you don't need a permit to carry-open or concealed.

If I don't arm because of a misplaced sense of superiority I'm a fool with a better chance of ending up dead than a heterosexual christian man.

You don't know what you're babbling about.

1

u/stefek132 Nov 19 '22

Being armed will do jack-shit for you. Best case, you shoot the whacko who shoots you. Worst case, the whacko will shoot you first and you can’t do shit about it. In any case it’s escalation and escalation is bad. The logic of “I need a gun because you have a gun” is terrible and literally reduces your safety, instead of increasing it.

I guess I’m too European to get this totally flawed argumentation.

2

u/ChunChunChooChoo Nov 19 '22

I’m pretty against guns and would love to see most of them off the street but the situation is pretty fucked in the US. I don’t blame minorities or people who belong to groups which are frequently the target of violence for carrying. There are too many crazy motherfuckers with guns out there.

-1

u/tbbHNC89 Nov 19 '22 edited Nov 20 '22

No it's fine, I don't deserve any chance to defend myself and have to be gunned down in prejudiced cold blood because if it's going to happen it's going to happen. Apparently.

What a fucking crock.

2

u/stefek132 Nov 20 '22 edited Nov 20 '22

Please explain to me. How is having a gun going to save you from a prejudiced group of bigots? Just don’t describe some wannabe Rambo scenario, like most of people do in this context…

btw, kinda nice how you make a point of offending me in every comment for having a different opinion than you. Getting offended by people having different opinions is a great prerequisite for a person carrying a gun.

2

u/tbbHNC89 Nov 19 '22

The logic of “I need a gun because you have a gun” is terrible and literally reduces your safety, instead of increasing it.

I am a walking target, you fucking child.

You don't understand how it is here nor what it's like to be a minority here (and possibly at all) and you, again, don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Priveleged European fuck.

2

u/ModsCanSuckMyDick Nov 20 '22

Holy fucking lmao, everyone's out to get ya, huh. Best of luck at the warzone, I guess

-1

u/tbbHNC89 Nov 20 '22 edited Nov 20 '22

My state is trying to make any live entertainment with transgender performers and people in drag illegal and conservatives are showing up armed to LGBTQ+ events. A synagogue here was vandalized last month. An abortion clinic here was set on fire last year.

Grow the fuck up. They really are out to get us. You don't know what you're talking about either.

Becaue I am a gun owner and a nurse and all the accidental gun shot wounds I have see are duds that look exactly like this kid. In my experience, most people that don't have military type continued hands on training with guns, when faced with a split second decision are totally incapable of making good choices. No one can predict how they will react when in a stressful situation. If this kid thinks that knife carried in that way is anyway reasonable or appropriate for self defense, his decision making is already in question.

-9

u/Darkmind505 Nov 19 '22

So… do you have “military type continued hands on training” with guns?

10

u/socialmediasanity Nov 19 '22

No, I also don't carry a weapon. I use it at the range. I wouldn't even be comfortable using it for self defense without a lot more use.

I know, reading can be hard sometimes.

I give two shits about laws. I have guns and I want to keep it that way. What i care about is the 2 year old that comes in with her face blown off because her 18 year old brother left his carry weapon on his bedside table while he took a shower. Or the 19 year old dud who is paralized because his buddy shot him accidently. Or the dozens of dudes I have seen who sliced their hands open putting away the knife they were carrying. All these guns and knives were owned and carried legally, and it didn't fucking matter.

Carrying a weapon is the easy part. Knowing how to not fuck up is much haarder.

8

u/ShameOnAnOldDirtyB Nov 19 '22

Thank Christ there are gun owners like you, please please please get in touch with your local and state Democrats about getting their messaging right on gun safety measures

4

u/socialmediasanity Nov 19 '22

Yeah, kinda like that.

-9

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '22

Lol why do you just assume that? Most people who open carry are pretty comfortable with firearms. Nobody knows how they are gonna react when shit hits the fan but you can’t how someone will just from a picture.

9

u/abe4489 Nov 19 '22

Nah in my experience most people who open carry do it to show off, look "cool", be intimidating ect. And most of the time they're self taught or "grew up shooting" so their complacency with firearms usually leads to dumb stuff.

3

u/Travis5223 Nov 19 '22

Everyone who open carries has a fragile ego and is volatile under pressure. EVERY single one.

Source: am gun owner.

Bot. Report this account. He's just taking words from other comments

2

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '22

Last time I reported anyone on reddit, it was an unsolicited DM from someone who only posts Ask Reddit questions that get 1-2 upvotes and 0 responses. They asked me if I "liked to travel". Reddit wrote back and said they checked it out and everything was fine.

2

u/SandBoxKing Nov 19 '22

They quickly delete these accounts if you put the reason for the report as "bot". They definitely don't care about an actual human harassing someone though lol

2

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '22

Thanks, for next time. I can't imagine this was a real person... they made zero comments, only posts, and there was no reason to think I was a 'lover of travel' or whatever.

An off leash pit bull killed his dog. He was asking if it would have been okay to shoot the pit bull.

Pretty legit question I'd say.

-2

u/aperson Nov 19 '22

No dogs were killed. They were asking if the dog even came on their property if he could shoot it.

9

u/A_Right_Of_Passage Nov 19 '22

Is my statement wrong? Do knives give an advantage over fighting with just your hands? Please explain how I'm wrong.

15

u/FatalisDrakari Nov 19 '22

You can’t have someone take your hands off and kill you with them. You can’t have someone turn your hands on you and kill you; though you can have them slap you and ask why you’re hitting yourself. You can’t accidentally drop your hand and critically injure yourself (unless you relax your arms too fast and accidentally but yourself but you can recover). There are a ton of reasons not to carry a fixed blade combat knife as a fucking pizza store manager.

I realize the irony of “disarmed” and the joke therein but I’m not about to Try and make it.

9

12

u/MorsOmnibusCommunis Nov 19 '22

As someone who actually fought in the war, you're a fucking idiot. And the irony of your other stupid comment is that Pizza Delivery is one of the most dangerous jobs in the US.

3

u/AlistorMcCoy Nov 19 '22

Heck, I was a delivery driver and eventually GM of a pizza chain location in a rural town and I'd often end up taking deliveries when things got busy or my driver called out in the morning.

I absolutely understand OP's impulse to worry about their own safety. I don't think I'd ever openly carry a weapon though, and I'm almost certain it's against any franchise's policies to do so; it certainly was against my company's. Despite that, I did CC a handgun every day, but I was sure not to let anyone know that and using it would never be my first choice if something did come up. I'm not about to risk my life over some corporation's profits.

OP is getting a lot of flak, but I think it's unjustified. He's just young and might have witnessed incidents in the past. People don't seem to understand that delivery jobs can be extremely dangerous. Two drivers were beaten and robbed in one year in my region, one of whom had their vehicle stolen as well. One store was robbed at gunpoint (robber got away with $500, the idiot).

What’s wrong with open carrying a firearm? If you’ve walked into a gun store then you should realize it’s more common than you think.

23

u/Evasquez6089 Nov 19 '22

The fact that it's a lot easier to kill someone when you can see their weapon. Everytime I see someone open carry, I walk around them thinking how dumb they are considering I could pull my concealed out in half a second and they'd be dead. Such a target for no reason

-24

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

Yeah, but you have the extra step of moving your shirt or whatever to grab your concealed. Open carry allows me to simply move my hand to the right without moving a shirt out of the way.

20

u/DustyIT Nov 19 '22

You're also the first target for literally everyone. Stop being willfully dense, you know what the person is saying.

-21

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

My woman has a target on her back regardless of if she has a firearm or not. We carry to protect ourselves and others, I don’t see why anybody would judge us for embracing our right to carry a firearm.

13

u/DustyIT Nov 19 '22

I judge you for carrying openly. I concealed carry. Why does your SO have a target on her back? Are you married to Nancy Pelosi or something?

-3

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

No she’s a woman. We are going to conceal we just haven’t received our license and haven’t trained to be as quick to pull from conceal compared to open. Why is she a target? Ever heard of human trafficking? Rape? Kidnapping? There are a wide variety of crimes that happen to women simply because they’re women.

8

u/DustyIT Nov 19 '22

A fair point, but if you live in an area where all of those things are an inherent and present possibility, why are you assuming anyone who would commit those crimes is going to come from the front? Why do you assume that your SO would ever see the criminal coming? And if she can't see them coming, why do you think someone with the element of surprise, who would overpower your SO if she didn't have a firearm, would ever giver her the opportunity to draw it? Good in you for doing it in the future, but all the things you pointed out could also be fought against with a knife, and a knife can be put in your pocket where you aren't making yourself the most obvious target.

6

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

We do go off the assumption that she’ll see the threat, that’s fair. We’ve considered a knife, but she feels more comfortable and safe with her firearm. I would carry a knife, but I personally like having my firearm with me rather than leaving it in the vehicle or at home where I have roommates. I really believe in gun safety and I believe that if it’s not on you, then it should be secured away safely. I promise you once we get our licenses and we’ve trained properly, we won’t be such obvious targets. But until then, we want to feel that we’re able to protect ourselves in an incident.

Imagine living so much of your life with this level of fear.

The US is so fucked if these are prevalent enough to warrant carrying and showing a gun at all times to prevent

1

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

Look up crime statistics in the US and argue that women wouldn’t be safer by carrying a firearm in the US. We don’t want to open carry, but until we get a license we open csrry.

I'm not eating pizza in a restaurant where employees feel the need to be armed. Either they're crazy or that's not a safe place.

More power to you, that’s the great thing about freedom. You ain’t forced 🤷🏿‍♂️

Why not? My woman does it with her weapon. Some of us do it for protection.

But the odds are still there. I’d rather have my gun and not need it and look goofy than not have my gun and need it and be seriously hurt or dead.

2

u/Thisdarlingdeer Nov 20 '22

Odds are always there. My dad was carjacked in front of a police station, thankfully he Carries, and pulled out a bigger gun (a magnum revolver) and shoved it in the other guys face, turns out the other guy didn’t have any bullets in his gun, and my dad dragged his ass right into the police station zip tied up with shit in his pants.

Also fun fact, that was the only time my dad wore shorts, and he has never worn them again. This was nearly 30 years ago. I think shorts are less the issue, and instead maybe locking his doors. But that’s neither here nor there.

The odds are still there lmao. Yea you struck me as someone who is deeply invested in statistical models.

Odds are you’re more likely to kill yourself or someone you care about with that firearm than ever any form of self defense. Since you’re such a numbers guy.

1

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

Yeah and we accept that. We know having a gun increases the chances that we use it on ourselves or each other. At least at that point it’ll look like a Mr and Mrs Smith movie.

2

u/heliostraveler Nov 19 '22

And with that last comment, confirmed 10 y/o edge lord.

2

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

Fair enough. Not sure what an edge lord is, but hey if it’s confirmed then I guess I am 🤷🏿‍♂️

1

u/DoCrimesItsFun Nov 19 '22

It will resemble nothing of the sort but I do appreciate that you admit to being so gripped with fear that you need fantasies to justify it.

“We know this thing we do puts everyone around us in danger but it makes us feel like we look cool”

This is what you’re saying. Very cool big man

I drive an Elantra bro, so there goes your stereotyping. I hit the range monthly, because what’s a gun worth if the operator isn’t trained to use it? I’ve always found that I’m more comfortable with an open carry.

u/DustyIT Nov 19 '22

Why don't you go somewhere less dangerous?

3

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

Yeah because that’s totally reasonable. Some of us can’t afford to simply get up and leave. We are where we are simply because we can’t afford to go elsewhere right now. Sounds like you’re a bit privileged if you’re able to just get up and go whenever you’d like.

0

u/DustyIT Nov 19 '22

Oh I'm definitely privileged. But I got my privilege after getting a job with the training I got in the military, which is also why I think it's dumb as hell to open carry. Especially in a place where you're apparently constantly in danger.

5

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

Yeah and some of us aren’t that fortunate. I’d like to be a skilled worker and I’d like to move us from where we are, but that just isn’t the case currently. We carry just in case in the event we need it. We’ll eventually conceal, but that won’t happen until we’re licensed to do so and trained to do so. I think any reasonable gun owner would agree that following the law is probably best and being trained to conceal carry before conceal carrying is a good idea.

1

u/DustyIT Nov 19 '22

Hey fuck that mindset, I don't give a fuck what your job is, don't call yourself "unskilled" labor. If you work a job, you're skilled at something. My point is while training is great, making yourself the most obvious target possible is worse than just carrying an alternate weapon.

5

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

Fair enough. I just don’t have the skills, currently, to obtain a well paying job. I have skills, as anybody else, but they are not yet worthy of obtaining something higher paying. And we’ll only have to be a target for a few more months. I do hope until then we’ll continue to be safe, we avoid trouble because we don’t want to be put in a situation where we have to use our firearms.

u/Lolthelies Nov 19 '22

Because if someone is planning on actually doing something, you’re the first to get shot.

And if you’re not really worried about that, it’s just for show.

1

u/New_Huckleberry_6910 Nov 19 '22

Until I have the option to conceal, I’m going to carry my firearm with me. Would you rather I leave it at home unsecured with roommates? Leave it in my car unaccompanied? Pick what’s best.

In America, this is pretty common so I don’t really see anything wrong with it. People will do what they do and what makes you any better for judging them? It’s weird.

He may be already. Could be why his belt is off center. A front concealed holster.

From the fact that he himself pointed out he's not old enough for a CCW permit, I assume.

He’s just pleased to see us.

He’s gonna open carry AIWB over that tucked in shirt with they way his belt is positioned.
