New GlacierSeep Apex Mattress: A More Practical Review

This review will be in two parts and a bit long as I am doing a more play by play review as I was trying it out.

As many of you know, I’ve got several Brooklyn Bedding mattresses at home, including a Brooklyn Bedding Standard Hybrid that’s been in my guest room for a few years now. It’s been working just fine, but I’ve been itching to try something new. I recently responded to a question about the Glacier Apex by BIA, and the poster suggested that there was not much information about it. My answer was based on the known built (albeit, lacking specifications on the website) and my familiarity with the company’s reputation for high quality mattresses, much like the Millbrook, which is one of my favorite mattresses, Hemingway, Embrace, Eclipse and others. Though I tend to prefer a firmer mattress, I figured I’d give the Apex a shot in real time, rather than one solely based on design, construction and build, so I could offer a better perspective, as it would be for the guest room where any guests staying over don’t get to firm or soft of a mattress. One thing that I dont know is the densities of the layers and gauges of the springs, which I will ask the company about later. It seemed to check a lot of the boxes for a guest room mattress: not too soft, not overly firm, more of a hotel luxury feel. So, I was hoping it would feel the way they described it.

The mattress arrived in less than a week, and for once, the box was in perfect condition and delivered right to my porch (not dropped at my garage door, which I really can't stand). The mattress was tightly compressed and rolled, but since I was planning to test it in my basement bedroom on the floor, unrolling it was easy. I just held one end and pushed it, and it rolled across the floor, removing the outer plastic wrap. When I cut the compression wrap, it expanded to 14.25” right on the dot, and within about 15 minutes, it was good to go.

One unintended consequence I discovered was when the mattress was expanding, I decided to throw on a pair of shorts and no shirt and out of my daily work dress clothes. The basement was cooler than the rest of the house, and the mattress cover seemed to absorb all of the cold air in the room.  When I laid down, it honestly felt like I was on a frozen lake. It was freezing, I had to run back upstairs and get a tee shirt.

I still opine that mattresses don’t cool, air conditioners do, but this fabric does absorb and hold the cold ambient air in the room, at least for a short time while lying on it in a specific area, when you roll to another spot, it is cool again. Remember, this is with no protector or sheets, yet. That will be part 2.

I set up a mirror on the floor, so I could see any compression areas while lying on the mattress. No sophisticated "mattress review site equipment" like thermal photography, weighted balls for measuring bounce, just good old fashioned, this is how it really feels.

Immediately, i noticed when lying on my back, I could actually feel the contouring and support under the arch of my back, which I was not used to with the Plank Luxe (and I love my Plank Luxe). It was a softer than I am used to, but surprisingly comfortable. This goes to show that even the most stubborn of sleepers, like me, can be comfortable on more than one firmness/style mattress. Despite being softer than what I usually prefer, I still felt very supported and secure. I could feel coolness faded after about 15 minutes as my body warmed up the mattress, even with a tee shirt on. Despite that, I did not feel hot or even warm on the mattress. Likely for a couple of reasons, the room was reasonable cool, and since I was not sinking much into the mattress and my body ( even at my weight 220lb, 6') was resting on the top surface.

I was able to move/roll around easily without feeling “stuck” in the mattress. In fact, as I mentioned, it felt like I was lying on top of it, even though my butt sank in just a bit after a while (20 min). The mattress does incorporate about 6.25” of comfort foams. When I lied on the edge of the mattress, the support was excellent, maybe an inch of give. I could still see the taped edges of the euro top below me in the mirror, and they did not compress enough to touch each other, so I knew I was not sinking too much at all.

Initially, I was a little worried about the 6.25” of comfort foam above the spring support, as too much foam can sometimes cause issues with how a mattress will support your body, but not here. The mattress felt solid and supportive and honestly, most people wouldn’t even guess this mattress came in a box. Cosmetically, it looks, feels and acts like a traditional one-sided mattress.

When I switched to my side, the mattress gave nice contouring with no uncomfortable pressure. When I rolled to the other side, I saw a slight body impression in the spot I moved from, but it bounced back quite quickly. There was no noticeable off-gassing smell. I had my wife come down to test it out too. She rolled on and off the mattress while I lied still, and I couldn’t feel any of her movements. Although, she did notice a little of my shifting, especially when I got on and off, but she said if she were asleep, she wouldn’t have been bothered at all (keep in mind the mattress is on the floor and not yet on a frame). You can definitely feel the extra lumbar support comfort layer, plus the way the cover is stitched, you can see the pattern shift in the stitching, so you see on the cover where the extra lumbar support is located on the mattress surface.

For the price, $1,299 for my full and $1,799 for a king, this mattress delivers a solid luxury feel. While there is some stiff price competition out there, their original glacier king, is only $999, which may be one of the best qualities to value plays on the market for under $1K. The Apex version, and the luxury hotel, secure but cushy feel, is quite honestly better than most of the legacy brands I’ve tried. I am not talking about their middle or lower lever lines; I am referring to their Black level and Estate Levels which sell for two to three times more. Since I still prefer a firmer mattress, I’ll update this when I place the mattress on the bedframe in the guest room get a full night’s sleep on it. But after a couple of days testing the Apex, on the floor in my basement, this mattress is pretty impressive. particularly if you like the feel of a high end hotel feel mattress. If you like a plushier, but supportive feel, this mattress is definitely worth considering. They call it medium plush, but to me, the support level feels a bit firmer than a typical medium, though it still has that plush contouring comfort feel to it.

Will update in a week or so!

I'm a heave (230 lbs) side sleeper that sleeps hot and it seems to address those needs at least in it's description. Do any of you have this mattress or have tried this mattress?

Thoughts on Harrison Spinks?

Upvotes

Hi Mattress Crew, I'm on the hunt for a truly well made mattress, one that I can flip over and keep for years. The one I've liked best so far is Harrison Spinks which is an English brand relatively new the US. Do any of you have one? What have your experiences been?

Looking for advice on memory foam layers, hybrids, and sleeping hot

We just purchased a new mattress, a hybrid ultra plush from a local-ish mattress store. I believe it’s just a Kingsdown with the store’s branding or whatever.

It is honestly quite comfortable but I was very uninformed about mattresses and it turns out I sleep incredibly hot on it. Like my body feels like it’s on fire after about 5 minutes and I’ve been waking up sweaty.

I’m assuming it’s the thick memory foam layer causing this, because I’ve read that hybrids sleep hot. I’ve always struggled with overheating on synthetic things so I’m not sure why my dumb ass didn’t put more research in.

We are able to exchange but have limited options since it seems most mattresses they have are memory foam or hybrid. I liked the Stearns & Foster Studio Medium Pillow Top, but it looks like there’s also a layer of memory foam?

So I guess my question is, is the S&F one I’m looking at going to sleep just as hot? My instinct says no because it seems like a much thinner layer of foam but I’d really hate to use our one-time exchange on something I dislike more. Plus it’s a bit more expensive. It just seems like everything has foam in it now and I’m not sure how I can ensure I get something I sleep cool on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Shopping for a latex hybrid mattress in Canada (GTA specifically), thoughts on these options?

Hi all, looking to replace our well worn pocket spring mattress, it was an Ikea hybrid with memory foam on top. My partner generally wants a firm mattress, I want a slightly more soft. I sleep on my back mostly but sometimes my side. After some amount of research, I am leaning to trying a latex hybrid mattress. Queen size.

I would really appreciate any thoughts or comments!

My top consideration is this one so far:

$729 https://hardcoremattress.ca/product/the-14-crown-hybrid-latex-pocket-coil-mattress/

Futher detail on specs here , from another store but appears to be the same. Assembly as follows:

  • 2" Aerated Talalay Latex Foam
  • 2″ Medium Firm Foam Topper
    • can't find specs on exactly what this is but assume some type of memory foam
    • this is the layer I am questioning the most, as not sure if it would make the assembly be too soft or sleep hot, seems that just latex over coils might be better
  • 1100 5- Zone Pocket Coil Support Core
    • can't find further specs on the coils
    • assume 9" based on total assembly height

I also like the price point, but can't find many reviews about the company and more importantly the mattress, so would be a bit more blind considering their is no showroom.

The 7/10 “Plush Firm” sounds about right, I would guess the mix of foam and latex would be a bit softer than only latex and coils, and the talalay also a bit more soft then dunlop latex. So maybe this is a good hedge.

$1,400 This one seems like a bit more ideal of an assembly, but more expensive.

$2,195 Even more expensive but appreciate the flexiblity of layers

$600 Briefly considered this, but it is the same price point as the crown, but less 1" of latex and the dunlop variety. Though if I went with non latex hybrid this store has a lot of options and a showroom.

Many thanks for your input.

Need Help Question about mattress

I bought a Serta perfect sleeper blue lagoon about a month ago and my back and hips have been killing me. It's still within the return period so I'm going to be sending it back. I found a local mattress company owned by the Amish and it has great reviews. I'm a side sleeper and also have a bad back (kyphosis). I wanted to see if I could get some suggestions about which one to go with. I went to their shop to test them out. I'm leaning towards the pillow top push, but I'm not sure if my hips would be dipping too much when I sleep. I'm between that one and the latex euro top.

Need Help HELP!! mattress bluetooth pairing issue.

I need help!! My parents have the Power Bob Elite adjustable base frame and mattress from Bob’s furniture. With this bed frame, there are speakers in the headboard that you can hook up via bluetooth. Recently we’ve been having a problem where the bed speakers will randomly make noise, usually sounds like some song or a ringing tone like you are trying to make a call to someone. Now we’ve used the bluetooth speaker feature before and it works, it’s cool. But again during random times of the day, even super early in the morning, it will play something random and it’s been waking up my parents in the early morning and my Dad works from home in his bedroom and has gone off while he’s been in meetings. Now we live in a townhouse so my one neighbor is attached to us and where my parents room is, is my neighbor’s livingroom (we are only separated by a wall) and my other neighbor is only 10 feet away. So we were sure if they were connecting to our bed by accident since the bluetooth name of the bed is just a weird name and number and doesn’t indicate it’s a bed frame. we asked both neighbors and they said no they were on any bluetooth but the one neighbor we are attached to his wife is not tech savvy and we talked to her and trying to figure it out. it’s still happening, we do think it’s my neighbor who doesn’t know much about technology bc she did say she connects her phone to her laptop. We looked through the bed frame manual to see if we can turn off the bluetooth speaker feature and it said nothing about it. Today we went to Bob’s furniture to see if they can help and they didn’t know what to do either. So I come to the reddit gods to see if anyone can help. I’ve looked all over the internet and nothing is helping me.

Need NEW Latex Mattress (all position sleeper)

I'm a side sleeper who has owned a Saatva Zenhaven for 8 years and a Plush Beds Botannical Bliss for 5. The Plush Beds was the 8-inch medium. I used a memory foam, 2-inch topper, and it was bliss. However, the mattress got ruined by using it with a Murphy bed, which you can't do!

The Zenhaven I've had for 8 years (on a regular bed frame) is too soft for me. I am perplexed how this can be considered a firm mattress. Even on the gentle firm side, it is way too soft for me when I'm on my stomach. On my side, it's a little pressing on my hips. I have used a memory foam topper at times to help, but not now. It appears to have indentation marks in the middle. I'm not sure if it's sagging, but I just need a firmer mattress.

Thinking of Sleep in Latex, or Avocado, after spending $2000 on Zenhaven lasting I'd say 8 years, I prefer not to spend as much. I would get another plush bed but the guy I spoke to on the phone turned me off, very "buy today" salesy . Advice?

Latex My latex mattress research so far... which of these would you choose?

  • My Current Queen Sized Mattress: 9-inch Royal Pedic Latex Quilt-Top Mattress.

    All Cotton Covering

    French Wool layer

    Ergonomical 7-Zone Talalay Latex Core

    Pin-Core, Two Sided Construction

The 7-zone core and two-sided construction are what I will miss. The core must be 8 inches thick. It's all one piece.

Out of my price range right now and I will be moving in about two years. And this mattress will be very hard to move.

My box spring is in amazing condition and I would love to keep it. 50% more modular supports in the center-third of the box spring unit. The coil wire is heavy duty 8 3/4 gauge as compared to 9 1/2 gauge as standard. Mounted on 5-Star hotel grade wide slat construction. Upholstered with cotton padding and heavy duty cotton fabric undercloth. Royal-Pedic box springs have flexiblity providing an extra layer of suspension.

  • Option 1: Berkley Ergonomics Linden ($3,000)

Gently zoned 6 inch Talalay support core

    2 inch Talalay comfort layer

Cover made with 100% organic cotton quilted to 100% pure Plein Air wool

    1-inch Talalay topper = $949.00 USD

    Not tufted

This is also more than I want to spend. I'm considering it as it will be a little over half of a replacement Royal Latex.

  • Option 2: Plush beds 9” Botanical Bliss ($1,849)

Quilted cotton cover + 1 - inch organic wool. Not tufted.

2-inch latex comfort layer - probably Dunlop

    6-inch Dunlop latex core

The price is about right but I want to try to get Talalay if I can. If it was tufted, that would help with my decision. Price is more around what I'm willing to pay.

  • Option 3: Nest Finch ($2,149)

1.5 inch Eco flex quilting foam cover, Not tufted

    3-inches Talalay

    6-inches Talalay

This is a really strong contender for me. All Talalay and I like the quilted cover even though it's not natural material. I really wish we could buy the Fawcett Mattress in the USA. This is the closest I can find to the Fawcett.

  • Option 4: My Green Mattress, Nature Escape ($1,444)

    8-inches of coils

    3-inches of Dunlop latex

    Wool quilted cover, Button Tufted

    2-inch Dunlop Topper $254

This is one of the few and maybe the only coil mattress I'm considering. The price is really good. I like that it is tufted. And it's got some latex albeit Dunlop. The trade-off is the price. I would say they have good reviews but I kind of ignore reviews.

  • Option 4: Sleep on Latex, Pure Green ($1,099)

Comfort Layer - 2 inches medium Dunlop

Base Layer - 6 inches firm Dunlop = 8 inches Dunlop Latex. Layers are laminated together

Cotton Knit Facing, Wool Batting, Cotton Quiltbacking, Not Tufted

    2-inch Dunlop Topper = $165

This is another strong contender due to price and everyone here seems to like them.

  • Option 5: Latex Mattress Factory, Luxerion, 10-inch ($1,249)

    3 x 3-inch Layers of Dunlop Latex

    1-inch of Wool

    Cotton Zipper Cover

    2-inch Talalay Topper ($351)

Another well-priced option but funky sales practices, and again, so many layers. It's clear to me that layers are how these companies stay in business. No one can afford to offer a 7-9 inch solid piece of Talalay, like the Royal Pedic

  • Option 6: Sleep EZ 10-inch Latex ($1,999)

3 x 3-inch layers of Talalay, Firm, Medium, Medium

    Zippered Quilted Cotton Cover

    Wool & Latex Topper ($640)

There's a reason why this is basically the same construction as the Mattress Factory but double the price. I don't love the 3 x layers again - having already said why. But I do like the all Talalay. And even though it's not tufted, I like the quilted cover.

  • Option 7: Avocado Latex ($3,299)

2 inches of Dunlop latex in the top comfort layer (D65 / 14-19 ILD, soft)

3 inches of firm Dunlop latex (D75) in the middle

4 inches of firm Dunlop latex (D75) at the base.

wool (1 ounce per square foot) under the cotton ticking

    Tufted, Greenguard, Out of Stock.

    2 inch Talalay Topper: $494

This might be my mattress. Just over the top of what I want to spend but I like how it's tufted to hold it together. And I think I might be very influenced by the appearance and marketing.

  • Option 8: Avocado Green Pillowtop ($2,799)

2 inches Dunlop in the pillow-top layer (D65)

2 inches Dunlop in the comfort layer (D65)

1 inch of Dunlop (D65) in the base.

individually wrapped coils arranged in seven zones and steel perimeter support to the edge.

I wish they would say how many inches the coil layer is. I know I can just ask them. This is the other coil mattress I might consider. Edit - Was just advised to be careful about zoned coils which is helpful to me as I really don't want coils, anyway and I appreciated this word of caution.

  • Option 9: Avocado Green Box Top (3,599)

    3 inches Talalay latex

    3 inches of Dunlop latex

    Tufted

individually wrapped coils arranged in seven zones and steel perimeter support to the edge.

I wish they would say how many inches the coil layer is. I know I can just ask them. This is another coil mattress I might consider. Basically the Avocado Green with a topper. Edit - was advised to make sure to try zoned coils before purchasing.

  • Option 10: 10- inch Turmerry Latex ($1,500)

Flippable, not tufted but it looks deeply quilted

    Organic Cotton

    Organic Wool

    Organic Cotton

    3 x 3-inch layers of Dunlop latex

    Organic Cotton

    Organic Wool

    Organic Cotton

2-inch firm Dunlop latex topper ($269)

The 7-zone latex looks similar to what I have now only not solid. In 3 x 3-inch layers.

  • Option 11: Saatva Zenhaven 10-inch ($2,890)

    Quilted Cotton Cover

    Wool Layer

5-zone latex - I'm assuming Dunlop. Doesn't say how thick

Latex Support Core. Doesn't say how thick. I'm assuming Dunlop

5-zone latex - I'm assuming Dunlop. Doesn't say how thick

    Wool Layer

    Quilted Cotton Cover

Flip-able which makes a big difference. I've read that edge support isn't great. Someone here said there was an issue with the materials they use not being as advertised. Now I can't find that comment.

  • Option 12/Not Really: Avocado Luxury Organic Mattress ($5,039)

I'm not really considering this due to the price. At a certain point I might as well get another Royal Pedic

    Layer 1: Cotton / Elastane(3%) cover 5039

    Layer 2: Wool (325g)

    Layer 3: 2 inches Alpaca fiber (500g).

    Layer 4: Wool (325g)

    Layer 5: Cotton canvas (375g/12oz).

    Pillow top only/Layer 6: 2 inches Dunlop latex (D65/14-19ILD)

Layer 7: cotton, wool, and natural silk (500g).

    Layer 8: cotton canvas (375g).

    Pillow Top & Box Top Only/Layer 9: 1-inch micro-coil innersprings

Pillow Top Only/Layer 10: Wool, blended with cotton and natural silk

Layer 11: 2 inches of soft Dunlop latex (D65/14-19ILD)

Layer 12: 8-inch innerspring unit, fabric-encased coils in 7 ergonomic zones, with a reinforced steel perimeter for edge support.

    Layer 13: hemp pad (450g)

Layer 14: Cotton (97%) and Elastane (3%) fabric cover

Layer 15: needle-punched wool from India.

Layer 16: jersey (95g) to help hold the organic latex in place.

Layer 17: cotton, wool, and natural silk (500g).

I'm tempted but it's not even flip-able. For 17 layers this is basically a hybrid (4-inches of Dunlop, 1-inch of micro-coils and 8-inches of zoned coils) with lots of different fabric layers. Edit - was also just advised that zoned coils can be problematic, which helps me move away from this choice.

Definite No's but was considering.

  • Definite No #1: Naturepedic, EOS Trilux $3,200

    cotton/wool batting cover

Layer 1: 3-inches of latex - probably Dunlop

Layer 2: 3-inches of latex - probably Dunlop

Layer 3: 3-inches of latex - probably Dunlop

    cotton batting + zipper encasement

    split - 2 sides.

This is a no because I do not want a split mattress. This mattress would literally come in six pieces with nothing to hold it in but a zippered cotton cover. I feel like there will be separation and splaying over time. And for 3,200 - it's at the top of my price range so it was an easy no.

  • Definite No #2: Eclipse Embrace 10" Firm ($4,649)

    Layer 1: 3-inches of 5-Zone latex - probably Dunlop

    Layer 2: 3-inches of 5-Zone Latex - probably Dunlop

Layer 3: 6-inch Latex Core - probably Dunlop

Stretch Knit Cover. Not quilted or tufted

    Greenguard, Based in New Jersey

I like that this has a 6" core but not at that price for Dunlop. I know these mattresses come from all over the place and I don't really care in most cases. But this being from New Jersey. Just very far to ship a mattress in boxes...

  • Definite No #3: Aireloom ($4,000)

    Only Hybrid

    Visco Foam, not latex

This was so highly recommended and is local to me. I wanted to try to make one of these work.

  • Definite No #4: C&W, High End Coil Mattresses

  • Definite No #5: Leesa Sapira Chill ($1,811)

    Coils & Memory Foam

I really wanted to make a Leesa Chill work out for me. I could probably handle the coils but not the memory foam.

I am 160 lbs. 5' 6" and a side/stomach sleeper. I fall asleep on my stomach but often wake up on my side. I have scoliosis that no one would notice but it means that I need to sleep on the side where my ribs are concave to flatten the other side of my ribs that are the opposite of concave (ie; convex). It that makes sense.

I have to give up, my expensive mattress gives me back pain

A while back, I bought a fairly expensive mattress. I went all in, thinking I was doing the best move.

After some months of sleeping on it, I now wake up with middle back pain every morning.

The mattress is supposed to be soft, but I think I need even MORE soft.

My mattress before that was ultra soft, like a cloud. Also, I slept on a couch for a long while and it was fine.

I am not sure what to do, I feel like when I bought my mattress it was the softest in the store.

The problematic mattress is Sealy Posturepedic plus, the one that I had before was a Serta Pefect Sleeper.

Should I try to find a Serta Perfect Sleeper? Would it stays true to it's 15 years old self?

Edit: 215 pounds back sleeper.

Endy Discount

I just bought my first mattress and decided to go with the Endy Medium-Firm. After my purchase it gave me a referral link to offer 75$ off to others so I'm just posting the link here if anyone was looking for an extra discount. I took advantage of their free Everyday sleep set offer as I think it's quite good. Will leave an update after receiving and trying out the mattress for a few nights.

Need Help Is my bed frame doomed without the center leg support?

Seeking advice on whether this setup will suffice: I recently relocated and unfortunately misplaced the center leg support for my metal bed frame. All other components are assembled and appear to be secure. I’m wondering how essential is the center support in maintaining the frame’s stability and durability? I contacted Zinus for a replacement, but they only offer a full set of parts and screws, which is quite costly. I appreciate any insights. thank you in advance!

Have had a Queen Kingsdown Sleep to Live Series 5 mattress with topper for 5 years. Don't remember the cost.

we had a latex mattress before this mattress and I absolutely hated it. Hurt me everywhere. [too soft not supportive?]

Thanks for the help.

Amerisleep Latex Foam?

So my wife and I have an Amerisleep latex foam mattress. It was initially VERY comfortable, though maybe 3 years after, we noticed indentation forming. Apparently the indentation aren't bad enough to trigger the warranty, but by now I'm more comfortable sleeping on the couch.

We're gonna replace the mattress but unsure if we should trust latex foam again. We like its initial comfort a lot, but for as expensive as it is, we'd expect it to last longer.

Im 6' and 175lb, she's 110. So we're not large people.

What are other's experience with latex foam and amerisleep?

I'm hoping we can get some recommendations for a more durable alternative.

Thanks!

Is it on the firmer or softer side?

Has it started to soften/sag?

Would you buy again?

Need A New Mattress

I have had pain in my hips and glutes when I sleep for forever now. I am a side sleeper. But, last week I was on a Disney cruise and I didn't have pain when I slept. It was amazing. It made me realize that I have probably been sleeping on a mattress that is too soft.

I have a purple mattress. It's pretty soft and I thought I liked it, but the hip pain really sucks. So, yesterday I swapped it for my husband's Casper mattress (we have a split king bed with different mattresses on each side). The Casper is way too hard for me. I tossed and turned all night and my lower back hurts now.

I need a mattress that's firmer than the Purple and softer than the Casper. Maybe someone knows what's on the Disney ships, I was on the Fantasy. I really want to be able to sleep without pain, especially since I don't have pain when I'm awake (well, until my back pain today, that is...).

I hope someone can recommend something!

Question about latex mattresser

After a lot of research I finally fell down the DIY mattress rabbit hole. I was looking into some builds that people had posted here when I came across this DIY latex hybrid mattress from Turmerry that seems to check all the boxes at basically the same price as ordering everything separately. It would seem like my search is over except that I've never actually felt a latex mattress so I'm a little apprehensive to order sight unseen. This mattress seems to be very close to the build of the Naturepedic EOS classic though and I actually do have a mattress store nearby who says they stock them. Would this be a close enough match to tell me whether or not I like the feel of a latex hybrid?

Also, I've noticed that a lot of people even if they're buying a new mattress will buy a separate latex topper. I've read that the cover for latex makes a big difference and it seems like the idea is if you buy a topper you can get a much thinner, stretchy cover that makes latex feel much softer. My issue is, I would really prefer a mattress around 12'' in height. The Turmerry has an option for 10'' and 12'', and I'm wondering if I should buy the 10'' and buy a separate 2'' topper. Personally I would prefer the simplicity of just buying a mattress at the height I want and be done with it. Is there a big enough difference in feel that warrants buying a separate topper?

Thanks for any help.

Other Questions We need a lower bed. Is it ok to have a flippable mattress on a slatted frame?

Due to a rapidly aging dog, we need to lower our bed. We decided to go as low as possible while still having a couple of inches of storage underneath.

We're currently on a universal bed frame with a 5" box spring putting the bottom of the mattress at 12" off the ground.

We've found one, just one, 6" frame with a headboard, however it's got wooden slats, and we have a two sided matress.

Two questions: 1. Does anyone have a better idea other than a low bedframe? 2. Is it ok to have a flippable mattress on a slatted frame?

Thanks all!

Eidt: Researched bunkie boards, would I really need one with my innerspring mattress?

Best box mattress that will give you 5* luxury hotel vibes with no chemical odor?

Looking for a new mattress and I don’t like the heavy legacy mattresses as they are expensive and also don’t want to deal with delivery etc. I like the box type. My partner always sweats at night so something that’ll cool him down would be great, I am a back or side sleeper. Please no unboxing chemical odor, I can never get rid of them

Best mattress I’ve owned

This is my first time posting here, but I’ve read through the threads for some time now. Having a comfortable, supportive, and reliable mattress has always been important to me. However, up until this year I truly did not know what I was missing. In the past when I was young and dumb I had the Beautyrest Pressure smart Plush. I slept okay and thought that was good enough, however it was poorly made and had a significant sag within a year. Thinking it was a fluke I bought the BRB K class plush pillow top; it was soft, too soft, but comfortable in its own ways. While owning it I thought it was supportive enough, but in hindsight that was incorrect. After a year there were divots and after moving it to a new home, it was entirely destroyed. Next was the Helix sunset. While it was supportive enough it was not the most comfortable in my opinion, it also slept very warm as it did not feel super breathable. I should note that during these years of different mattresses I thought I was receiving quality sleep, good support for my body, and overall improvements to my health. I did have enduring lower back pain that would shoot into the piriformis every time I bent over. I thought this had to be due to poor posture, sedentary job, lack of exercise/stretching, etc. because why would my “high quality” pricey mattresses be causing pain? However, it got to a point where every night I had to flip from my back to side because my back would ache. Then my hips would ache so back to the back I would go for more aches. I went to the doctor about this and was sent for an MRI which revealed I was fine and healthy. Still the pain persisted and I was convinced it must be something, anything else. Enter this past year. It was time for a mattress for our new home. I decided to try a new model and researched different brands beforehand. When I was in SF I visited the Saatva showroom. The first mattress I tried was the classic, their best seller. This was a nice mattress and I could see myself growing with it over time. However, when I tried the RX, all bets were off. It was unlike any mattress I have ever felt before. The comfort experience was unparalleled and every muscle felt cradled and supported in its own unique way. I bought it that day. The reason for this Odyssey of a post is to tell anyone who may be on the fence on Saatva to absolutely go for it! It’s been 8 months now and I’m happy to report that not only is it the most comfortable mattress I have ever had, but my pain is completely gone-as the RX is specifically designed for chronic pains, I would say it not only met this expectation but exceeded all of my expectations. My only true regret was not finding them sooner. I do not roll in the night anymore; I sleep through it almost always. If my spouse is in the bed and they’re rolling, I don’t feel it and vice versa. It’s super breathable and just all around a stellar experience. I hope it holds up in durability over the years but the moment it shows a sign of dipping/sagging I’ll be purchasing my next. If anyone is hesitating on Saatva, seriously give them a try! I believe they have a 365 day trial as well? Or if you’re in a city where you can visit a showroom, I cannot recommend it enough. Even if you can’t try them before you purchase, it’s beyond worth it and you will be super happy with your sleep and your body will be super happy with you!
