MH Wilds “Hunter, the Guild authorizes” is so damn cool Spoiler

The handler in wilds feels so much less like some sidekick and more of a HANDLER. Like, we’re the guild’s blade and she is the hand that guides us. The guild has given her FULL AUTONOMY to act on their behalf, and she alone can decide what we are hunting. The lines also came at really good times during cutscenes and overall just fed the vibes lol. Especially the final fight of low rank? SHIVERS

Hunter is definitely looking after Alma by accepting the consequences. I love that.

Really wished that there is a "protected monsters" mechanic with some penalties. Like, kill certain monsters that before a passing doshaguma pack arrives. Or, kill only certain monsters in a pack to thin out the herd.

Fun fact: Lorewise this already exists. The Mizutsune in past games are always male because they're larger, stronger, and can get violent around their mating season. Female Mizutsune are smaller and non-aggressive so you're never sent to hunt them.

There kind of is. If, during the story missions in low rank, you start going after a Large Monster that is not part of the mission profile, Alma will warn you that you are not authorized to hunt that monster, a warning symbol appears, and you don't get any rewards beyond the basic carves.

But that's the extent of it, and afaik in High Rank it just ceases to exist since you can just hunt whatever you come across.

So yeah, would have been interesting for them to introduce a (tame?) large monster that the hunter isn't allowed to hunt, and maybe has to do a chain of side mission first to bolster that monster's population till Alma authorizes taking one down 'for research'.

It still kinda exists in early levels of High Rank, the only monster quests you'll see on the map are those that you can hunt, but other higher ranking monsters also roams the map and it tells you that you can't create a quest for it.

I'll assume that if you just tracked it yourself and attempted to hunt it, Alma would just say you're unauthorized.

In high rank I think it only applies to the Apexes until you finish their slay quests

I see, I think this makes more sense now seeing it was a Rey Dau.

Can't confirm. Upon entering high rank, the first thing I did was run after two ??? icons, reveal the monster's identity and immedeately go to town with them, starting Field Survey quests once enough damage was dealt.

Maybe the warning only triggers if you accepted a main story quest to go after a specific monster, and then mid-quest divert into attacking another monster?

Well early on in High Rank I saw a Rey Dau roaming around Windward Plains and it doesn't allow me to create a quest for it, though I didn't try heading straight to it.

Imagine you're grinding a rathalos for it's gem and they stop spawning because you literally genocided all of them in the area. Then a group of guild knights come and put you and Alma in jail.

They could add a series of shots showing how the ecosystem is completely obliterated because of your actions too.

That'd be a cool secret ending.

Alma's purpose here is to prevent that exact scenario from happening. I like the fact that since the missions are longer we need someone to keep tabs on us. I figure her role, besides being the Guild's eyes on us, is to write down investigation notes, weaknesses, item locations, camp sites, etc, so we can focus exclusively on hunting. Imagine having to deal with paperwork on top of inventory management?

Same. I killed a couple of those sand leviathans early on because they were there and I could, but despite the "You are not authorised to hunt this monster", there was no downside to it aside from not getting the quest-end extra materials.

Well, during Low Rank if you try to hunt, say, a Balahara, before fighting it in the story mission, Alma says you aren't authorised to do so (mechanically speaking, you won't get the extra Field Survey rewards).
In High Rank the same applies whenever you try to hunt a monster with a higher HR requirement than your current level (so, for example, if you instantly go after HR Black Flame once you see the credits roll).

Agree I think alot of the protecting the ecosystem stuff would go alot better or feel alot more real if we weren't killing anything that was even a minor annoyance to the locals.

It's not really a working ecosystem if the moment it steps out of line for what you think is ok you beat it into submission.

There is the mechanic where you get a pop up and Alma saying you don't have authorization to hunt certain monsters before reaching certain parts of the story, but all it does is prevent you from getting the quest rewards since you can still kill/carve the monster.

In terms of lore the penalty for an unsanctioned hunt is death. The guild knights will hunt you down and end you.

like a penalty fee or something? 100k for killing the wrong monster?

5

u/Neperian-log Mar 02 '25

And if you keep doing it , guild knights come and « delete » your save file

2

u/Psychobuffjet Mar 03 '25

you get a 5 star wanted level and the guys in guardian armor chases you

edit: hopefully they make Monster Poacher a MH spinoff lmao

u/sharpknot Mar 03 '25

Nah, probably not to that extent. Maybe something like "the monster does not drop materials" or "less rewards/drops for the next few successful hunts of that monster".

1

u/Vash4073 Mar 04 '25

from what I understand that's what currently happens. you only get the carve rewards or trap rewards but nothing shows up at the end (please correct me if I'm wrong. I only learned this second hand from viewing friends play)

No. They just wrote it that way to make a badass moment.
