I'm about to delve into Wilds so I've gotta ask, what's this talk about male and female armor? Do you choose upon crafting which one you want? Or how does it work?
The game never actually says "male" and "female", because there is no gender restriction. There is just alpha and beta. For some sets alpha is distinctively more masculine and beta is more feminine; for others it's just a different style. I often mix and match the two to find a look I like.
I agree. At first I thought we were tricked because that would mean Capcom would just do a single design for armor, and also no more "slutty" armor. I was wrong. Now you can slut up your male hunter and mix pieces for cooler sets
I think practical armor for women is up there too, I like a good practical female armor set now and then. I get rid of those one leged pants as often as I can.
We've had the male Kirin armor for ages, though it really is nice that men can wear female armor and women can wear male armor. No more contest about who has the best armor designs, and no more complaining about female helmets almost always featuring that dumb face window.
What face window? 90% of female head armor simply wasn't, being either (annoying) veils or (far too cutesy) crowns and tiaras and shit. Actual helmets, be they ever so opened, are a
n improvement.
I love fancy dress and trench coats on my hunter. Finally, I am no longer confined to shitty thigh windows and slutty armour. The tights option is really good for covering up thigh windows as well, kinda like Fabius’ pants
Naw, beta sets were different. Not radically different but they had some differences (on top of actual gameplay differences like having less skills for more gem slots, iirc).
Indeed, this is very disappointing. Specially when most of beta sets were just slightly different. I just reach HR and it was a letdown seeing beta sets
I feel they went extra hard with the "slutty" armor. Have you seen the sideboob on the Hirabami chest piece? Or the female Arkveld pants? They rival Kirin in their "cheekyness".
If only the beta armors in high rank had at least a bit of difference to the other design that isn't just changing a little bit in a minute color detail I would like the mixing armors more, but there are effectively less designs in the end, which I personally don't like
I'm so not used to ever seeing the face of my male hunter again once I'm like 30 minutes into an MH game. Really a breath of fresh air.
I have literally played some of these for hundreds of hours, removed the helmet for whatever reason and was like "wait, THAT is what the dude looked like?"
literally i did not spend 2 hours in charter creation to cover his face 😭 i love that i can use male body and female heads now. or just turn it off completely(i think rise had this tho)
I was always annoyed that female characters never got true face covering helmets so the moment I was able to get G. Rath armor I equipped the male helmets and never looked back. I'm so happy women can wear full helms now omg
I literally chose to keep the Rath armor instead of upgrading to Arkveld armor for the low rank final boss, specifically because the Rath armor shows you the full face (it was very worth it)
I made the same assumption for the palico, but would love confirmation. As for the seikret, i have no clue and ever since I’ve unlocked the color customization for them I haven’t been able to figure out how to change their gear.
Go to seikret customization (talk to Nona or use the option in your tent) and change the Decoration (right above pendant choice, iirc). That'll change the seikret's "armor".
No idea what that set is in the OP's post, though. Maybe you unlock more past mid-HR?
I wish we still have an alternative look for beta sets like in World/Iceborne but that would definitely be to much work since every set comes with 2 styles already
I'd rather have the sets available for both sexes, since I will only play one throughout the game. Though I dont think that should be a choice at all, they should have the man power to make all these armors. This is literally their most lucrative franchise.
Its not just sets, but World had little detail changes between Alpha and Beta as well. There is no reason that those details were taken out. Like in the returning monsters, everything was already there and designed. Hoping that they are back into MR. though seems unlikely.
The reason why is that we have both gender variants available for both body types. They didn't just slap the body type 1 model on body type 2, they are modelled to fit the body type you're using, they are just the same design.
Basically, having what we got and alpha/beta variants would be effectively double the work compared to our options previously.
Right now I'm currently playing through world again, but with mods that alter the female armour to have helmets and pants, where the male ones do (so sets like Kirin are unchanged) and it has made me so happy. :')
Announcing the choice of either female or male style sets for Wilds was the perfect compromise. I really thought this would never happen in this series.
I will wait until either a big sale or the performance issues are fixed, but this is a huge bonus for me.
I love the mixes just wish it was two types of each armour so an Alpha and beta for both types. So four armour sets. The did it before the mixed sets but it was male alpha, beta and female alpha, beta
How is your hunter actually showing the belly button ? Not a gooner but whenever i equip an armor that is a little revealing there is just a grey spandex thing there.
As mentioned. Undercloths option. You most likely toggled it on during character creation. You can change it in the equipment customisation (last option inside a tent).
Another thing they've done I really like is adding a layer under your armour. There was a lot of armour I really liked except they insisted on having a weird thigh gap. Now you can still use the same bits but cover that up a touch.
It’s great I was skeptical that we would lose armor design quality, but so far, both the male and female sets look great, and the implementation for mixing both sets is fantastic.
Dont think so, as I saw no option. I did use change all pigment option in the customization tab, not sure if that had any effect. The base weapon itself isnt white. The metal parts stand out.
Ho. ly. shit that a sick set. When do we unlock the ability to change pigments again? Been so long since I played a Monhun game to that point and only ever remember unlocking the rainbow one in MH4U at the end.
Affinity stats are weapon specific. There are no stats that can be shared between weapons. Only Armor Skills can be shared, coz they are on the armor so both weapons get access to them.
Side quests. You'll start getting more quests post story completion. Don't know which one unlocked it, as I just did all in one sitting, then checked what all I had.
I just wished they had made the system slightly different.
Example: Chatacabra Helmet
Instead of having to choices to forge from (2 separate items) I wish you only had to forge 1 item, male or female, and it could be changed at any time in the tent. Of course with a pop-up tutorial saying "You can change the look of this at the Forge or in the Tent at any time".
It would just lead to less items and be clearer, imo.
the spirit of the game (unspoken by vets like me) is always engaging the battle harvest and craft loop
by making the crafting too streamlined that it'll actually harm the game to the point of "why bother doing a fight or helping others?" my favourite part of online play is cleaning up my armour prices I need by helping others lower HR then me and seeing how we both win for different objectives!

I love it. My opening armor was all female leather, and the male goggles. Looks like something out of water world.
