When I first hunted it I was like "wait why isn't the countdown starting?" so I hit it once and nothing happened. Then I started carving and got 2 carves before it jumped up. Then I killed it before it flew away and got 3 carves from the body. Pretty handy if you want to craft gypceros gear I guess.
In the Beta it faking was a lot more obvious because they didn't hide damage numbers while faking it. In the full game they reinstated the hidden numbers so it can actually bait people again.
Funny enough, I carved one for the hell of it and it twitched like it was looking at me to make sure I was committing to it before knocking me on my ass
I wish they went all the way and had the quest complete screen show along with the camera snap and everything whenever he did this, but I get it would have been a lot of work for fairly little gain.
We fought the Gypceros during the beta. None of us were taking the fight serious, because it looks so goofy. It’s dead, we’re carving it, and then the next thing we know it was spasming awake, and killed everyone. We were all low on health like confident idiots
Man. World was my first game and the first time I fought Gypceros I immediately knew something was wrong when I didnt get the quest complete thing show up so I kept smacking it and sure enough it was still alive. It ALMOST had me.
I started in World too. Sad to say I fell for it. LMFAO. I thought the game was glitched. Made me so happy to learn something new in a MH game after 2K hours :)
rooks falling for Gyp playing dead almost makes having a monster whose gimmick is an undodgeable flash attack, poison, weird disjointed tail sweeps, and higher stun than normal, worth it
Shouldn't you be able to just turn away and be fine? It's not a flashbang, just a bright flash; there's no reason that not facing the light should stun you still.
They changed the way flashes work in wilds. Even flash pods work when the monster isn’t looking. It’s extremely forgiving in my experience which translates to extremely punishing when it’s used against us
I'm playing 3U right now and I've lost track of the number of times a flash failed because it went off more than two centimeters away from a monster's nose. And it's not like I can just go back to camp and get more
Literally my biggest gripe with 4U and GU are the flash machanics. Fighting things like Rathalos that NEVER fking land, and you whiff a flash just cause it was a micrometer too low under him or to the sides was the most blood boling shit ever.
A wound appears on it's head while it flashes that you can break to stop it.
I think after the first time the wound stops appearing so you need to break the heap properly before it does it again but it breaks quite easily. Guess this is how they balanced it.
Yeah even in OP's video we can see a) no Monster Slayed! notification and b) no Quest Complete! notification. I can understand it in the heat of the moment, but seems obvious afterwards. If Capcom really wanted to mess with players they'd only have Gypceros be in 2 or 3 monster quests, where you wouldn't be expecting a Quest Complete! mid fight anyway
I think in MHF2 and MHFU, having appropriate gear for the quest it took around half your health. So yes, it could cart you if he got you at low health.
Make it even better by announcing Qurupeco but not Jho and add Bazel in, too, just so we can have Qurupeco calling in pickle and some air strikes. Make it so they don't appear on the map as well until you get Qurupeco to summon them for the first time.
Idk why, but I’m just imagining them going back and forth casting “Pot of Greed” endlessly and summoning monster after monster after monster and the world cracks from the amount of B-52s, Pickles, Fatalises, and like a thousand of every other monster. 😂
Gigginox can kind of do that. He hangs out in dark caves and likes to jump behind you and onto the ceiling over you. If you were too slow to move the camera up when he's above you, he could nail you with a pin attack. And then there's all the baby Giggis crawling around hoping for a sip of the hunter's blood
I thought maybe it was just treating it like a field kill, and doesn't always show a cinematic, kind of like how you can kill something and not get ported back to town.
Joke aside, the Dumb rubber fuck likes to “Play dead” before surprising you with the biggest, dumbest, flailing in-your-face “boo I’m still alive” move it can pull out of its dumb doorstop looking ass. I don’t remember, but if memory serves, it used to hit like a truck in the MHGU titles and earlier-probably if it was tempered or maybe frenzied. That said, this is a great opportunity to get some free damage in, since it still registers, the game just doesn’t give you damage tick numbers for it.
Or, if you’re feeling extra disrespectful, you can go in and try and carve him before I-frame dodging out of his dumb flailing.
Me, personally, I like to get me and my buddies to put down as many barrel bombs as we can around him. And now in Wilds, we also pull out a second, bigger barrel and ready ourselves to go RubberDodo Bowling the moment he wakes up.

Yep, that's how it lures you into a false sense of security. The best part is I'm pretty sure those carves dont count towards the 3 carves you get at the end. Hell you can carve it while it plays dead then capture it for the best of both worlds
They really should remove the head from those particular carves. I love this part but that one carve is a very big 'Wait what??' moment that just ends up seeming like a bug if you aren't in the know already (like this post).
This is like the old games where Monoblos would slam into the wall and drop a shiny which has a chance to be Monoblos Heart. Dude literally coughed up his heart and kept going.
ngl they probably should limit the playing dead carves to rubbery hide and maybe the lightstone if you broke it, cuz.... getting the skull is a bit silly, its like the kelbi all over again... you skin them and take their liver and skin off and they just walk it off
They could give every monster a fake death. Give me those free carves. I usually just capture anyway so I can't be fooled. Possums play dead pretty convincingly and even they don't fool me. Until the skip prompt to end the mission is up on the screen. It's war crime time against those delectable monsters. 😅
Ya I was wondering why my friend was so excited when we went to fight it. (Hes played since the first gane, I started with rise) Man I audibly went "WTF" when it did that and he couldnt stop laughing 😂
