MH Wilds Wilds' Mizutsune is *GORGEOUS*
RTX on, max settings, High-Res texture pack.
This is the most impressive that this monster has ever been. The iridescent effect, the scale and fur texture, the bubbles... absolutely everything is incredible and looks fantastic. What a delight to the eyes to fight this thing at night in the Scarlet Forest. Even the intro cutscene was amazing and the pose with the name is among the best I've seen in a long time.
Seeing the bubble-fox glow up in 6th gen has made me incredibly hyped to see Lagiacrus in TU2. We waited a long time, guys, but I am sure our croc boy is going to look shockingly beautiful.

Yes he is, now tell him to stop kicking my ass.

u/Personal-Kangaroo835 8h ago
what weapon do you run? with hammer i've been abusing the poor funny fox fish
2
u/SadImpact812 7h ago
I fought him with a long sword, but for most oth the game it's been gs and cb. Though I may just main everything
5
u/Personal-Kangaroo835 7h ago
Yeah, if you stun him and stop him from spazzing. I just fought him tempered, paralysis, exhaust and stun is just unfair for the funny fox dragon fish

u/wb2006xx 4h ago
He is so fun to fight, but man are some of his moves deceptively high damage. Lost count of how many times I carted to that tail slam

mizu is the monster that got me into mh before i even played, i saw it SOMEWHERE and went :0!!! where is that from and now i am addicted to mh:world. such a gorgeous creature design

u/raxdoh 1d ago
I don’t think world has bubble fox? :0
24
u/dyinginneed 1d ago
unfortunately not!! i wish they were tho ): i think bubble fox is in rise tho
17
u/apexodoggo No longer a Long Sword one-trick. 1d ago
Rise converted me into a bubble fox fan (I liked it before, but playing through Rise it’s jumped up to Top 5), which is good because you fight Mizutsune a lot in Rise.

u/AlwaysTrustAFlumph 21h ago
It is in Rise as well as generations ultimate, the last game in the "old generation" of games. Lots of QOL changes in world that make it hard to go back, but generations ultimate also has the deviant version of mizu, as well as just being generally a great game and an awesome sendoff to the old world.
2
u/dyinginneed 13h ago
i always love to go back and revisit older games in a series that im enjoying, so i defs gotta check gen ultimate out!
3
u/AlwaysTrustAFlumph 9h ago
Gen Ultimate and 3U are probably the ones most worth going back and playing. Generations Ultimate is a love letter to the old gen. To this date it still has the largest monster roster, and Ahtal -Ka the G-rank final boss is one of the coolest monsters ever designed (spoiler alert, it pilots a mech). And 3U is awesome cause tri and 3u are the only games in the series that ever featured full underwater exploration and combat.

I thought the same. It looks absolutely brilliant. Cool moves too. OTOH I wasn't much a fan of the new rendition of the musical theme. IMO it lacks the drive and identity of the earlier versions.

u/GabrielGames69 1d ago
I don't think it is great mizutsune theme but I do think it's a great wilds mizutsune theme. It looses some of the monsters identity to add in the games identity and it makes it a treat to fight in the scarlet forrest imo.

u/raxdoh 1d ago
that’s the overall issue with wilds music. they tuned down those ‘identities’ in them and make them more like Hollywood soundtracks. it sounds fine individually but with the game sound effect and movement going on they become kinda subtle and punchless.
the only ones that still have that oomf feel is the iceshard skiff battle music and the rathalos new bgm. the arrangement is still wack but at least they got the punch.

u/herd-u-liek-mudkips 15h ago
I think the apex themes are pretty punchy but I do agree wrt. the overall direction of the music.

u/SMagnaRex 14h ago
Disagree, Gore’s theme for one really sounds amazing. I can really hear it while fighting, really adds tension to the fight. As opposed to previous Gore themes which imo were lacking.
0
u/raxdoh 12h ago
gore is amazing is because the core tune is the same as usual. but compare to other versions this is still the weakest in my opinion.
3
u/SNESS112 10h ago
I personally thought the Rise version was weaker. Original is still the best, but wilds one is actually not bad. Shagaru Magala's theme was great in Rise though. I hope it will be just as good, if not better in Wilds

u/Tonberryc 1d ago
Lucky you. My 4070 Ti Super can't even remotely run the high-res texture pack without lowering settings, and even then, my only crashes were with that pack installed.
10
u/SomeoneNotFamous 21h ago
5090 here, got stutters with the pack and the one thing that fixed it was RE Framework with the Disable Post FX scripts.
The game not only run way better, it looks way better too.

u/Jak3_6 17h ago
I had insane stutters with it on my 4080 before TU1. Runs fine now that they fixed the vram issues
3
u/renannmhreddit 16h ago
They didnt remove VRAM issues. Some people even had it worse. They might've changed something, it just doesnt seem all good.
17
u/raxdoh 1d ago
4070 ti should be perfectly fine. your issue is with the cpu.
6
u/renannmhreddit 16h ago
I think the issue is with their implementation of textures. I've never seen textures needing a better CPU, usually you can load extremely high detail textures without any problem as long as you have enough VRAM.
10
u/Tauntmaster 1d ago
You should be able to play on max settings with the high res texture back on a 4070 Ti Super, unless your CPU is a major bottleneck. It is definitely strong enough, I've had no issues on mine with graphics.
26
u/tigerwarrior02 23h ago
Idk I have a 5080 and I can’t run the high res pack at 4k without stuttering, there’s an issue with DirectStorage
-2
u/Limp-Judge-623 15h ago
No that's our GPU running out of VRAM. 4k max settings uses around 20-22gb VRAM on my PC (depends on map).
4
u/tigerwarrior02 15h ago edited 15h ago
I can promise you it is not lol. I tested it on a 24gb 7900xtx and it had the exact same issues but worse.
ETA: for the record I mean upscaled 4k with DLSS on both quality and performance. I have no doubt that native 4k takes that much vram
1
u/Limp-Judge-623 11h ago edited 11h ago
Don't understand your comment. Are you saying the game isn't using that much VRAM with upscaling?
2
u/tigerwarrior02 11h ago
I’m saying that with my specific settings I had the exact same stutters with 16 or 24gb vram. Because vram isn’t the issue.
11
u/HydrationHomee 1d ago
Brother could be playing at a higher resolution
4
u/AlwaysTrustAFlumph 21h ago
I'm kinda ignorant when it comes to PC graphics. My pc and budget can only afford 1080p and usually 60-120fps What would be the point of playing at a higher resolution without the high-quality texture pack? It seems to me like it might make more sense to try to get the game to look at as well as possible with the best quality textures before turning resolution up a lot. If you've got say a 4k monitor and you're playing in 4k, but you have a lower quality texture pack for it to work, that wouldn't be more noticeable?
2
u/HydrationHomee 20h ago
To kind of expand on my point. Texture resolution and render resolution are totally separate things that can be tweaked individually in most games. That being said though running a high resolution texture pack on 1080p, while technically better is limited by the relative pixel density of 1080p screens as a whole.
In most modern games even medium textures are pretty high resolution so you'll visually get a lot more mileage out of running the game itself at a higher resolution before running the highest texture setting.
1
u/renannmhreddit 16h ago
A lot of these games' textures are low quality though. They did some weird shit that fucked up with the textures loading, they reload every time you move the camera around. In the grand hub if you turn really fast you'll see the pillars in the distance reloading again.
2
u/HydrationHomee 20h ago
The high setting textures already look pretty stunning on their own (outside of a couple environmental textures) so playing at a higher resolution is completely acceptable even without the high res textures. The texture pack is there to push the limits of your PC for a little extra fidelity. I would say for most people it just ain't worth it.

u/_Arthur-Dent_ 9h ago
Thoughts for a 4080 super/i9 14900kf? Have been considering it but I average around 90-100 fps on DLAA and I don't really want to use DLSS.
2
u/Puddi360 soznotsoz 20h ago
My 4070 was running 60fps base with the HD texture pack. Stutters were annoying though so preferred going back to high textures

They did Mizutsune justice, it’s absolutely gorgeous and has a great move set. When Laguacrus rolls around and hell anything title update wise, they’re going continue to cook.
23
u/rathosalpha 1d ago
I couldn't tell over the lag seriously after the update it lagged so hard the audio stopped during the cutscene
12
u/A-Literal-Nobody 1d ago
That's been happening for me since launch. Killed all tension in several cutscenes.
7
u/StanGe205 1d ago
Had the same issue as you both. What has helped me was deleting the shader shader cache located in the install directory.
3
u/rathosalpha 1d ago
It only happened after the title update for me. Was this what all the bad reviews where talking about?
3
u/A-Literal-Nobody 1d ago
In part, yes, definitely. No fixes have worked for me, I'm just glad it stopped happening as much and didn't affect the Zoh Shia cutscene

is there a specific time or is the season enough?

I didn’t test to see if time really had an impact unfortunately. The season should suffice.

I'm absolutely loving the new model and have been fawning over my beautiful bubble boy for the last 24 hours lol.
They made him a lot more fox like both in terms of face and general body proportions. Which is obviously the point, but they've gotten across a lot more clearly this time.

u/renannmhreddit 16h ago
Doesnt RTX only affect water? Also the high-res texture look better, for some reason, prob terrible implementation, they stutter my pc, despite having 16GB of VRAM. I've never seen a game stutter so much because of textures despite me having enough VRAM for it.

He looks great but was he always that small ? I may be misremembering because its been a while since i played rise but i could swear he was bigger in rise.
5
u/uncreative14yearold 17h ago
I think you just got a smaller one. They have sized him down a bit, he's also a lot more slender to get his silhouette closer to that of a fox.

Mizu is hot since generatios, what are you talking about.
Wait I didn't mean tha-
2
u/MeiShimada 19h ago
Well it would be if the game wasn't a blurry, smeary mess. On my liquid cooled 4090 the game actually looks like a ps3 trying to run a ps5 game with every form of scaling and frame gen possible.

Didn't appear after the optional quest.

Never seen the monster before I started with world. I wasn’t expecting it to move so fast and glide on basically soap. Great monster with cool fight.

I thought the same thing during its intro cutscene. That pose it strikes in the moonlight when it's name scrolls across the screen is probably the the most beautiful and aesthetic introductory scene for a monster.
1
u/Zwsgvbhmk 6h ago
Is it just me, or is RTX in this game not very demanding? Like, I got used to fps dropping by like 10, 20, or even 30 when I turn RTX on in other games, but in wilds, it's like what.. 3 to 4 frames on low? Maybe 6 or 7 on high?
1
u/Key-Mathematician759 5h ago
Not as gorgeous as you ;)
But yeah Wilds Mizu is definitely beautiful and majestic

It’s also a pixel-for-pixel asset-flip of monster hunter world files. Would have been nice to get a new monster.

This instance of Mizu is awesome. If this is the first title update im really hyped for what is to come, especially if the leaks are true...

u/OdelloJones 1d ago
What leaks?
5
u/matu_ninixu 1d ago
ok so obviously dont look if you dont want to be spoiled but theres quite a few monsters that have been leaked, the most hyped one being gogmazios

For me it looked horrible, the fur (like any fur in the game) looked like some sort of low res porridge, and I could see all the 24 individual pixels on the rest of mizutsunes texture in my constant brainfog filter.
Truly a miracle of life.
Edit: since I got downvoted I feel like I need to elaborate, that I have no doubt it looks better on higher settings.
-9
u/Skellum 1d ago
It just seemed kinda like a reddish pink blob running about. The bubbles do look pretty but the constant movement and lack of a real reason to want to fight them long run I think will be a disadvantage for it.
I will say for a water monster it's definitely more aesthetically pleasing than Lavasioth.
