Meme Uth Duna when Lagiacrus drops in the second update to have yet another Turf War (OC)

I think Lagiacrus might well be a true equal to Uth Duna when he gets added due to having a much more even matchup compared to Mizutsune being kind of a poor matchup against Uth Duna given its build and abilities.

Yeah Mizu is kinda built to annoy Zinogre
Him trying to bite something 5 times heavier than he is is just...
That one doesn't deserve to reproduce, for the sake of the species

Yeah uth did well against miz as the lads in a different weight class, but lagi is a bulky fucker with lightning on its side.

Can lagi use his shell shockers effectively when it's exposed to air?

No, in fact Lagi's original ecology was that it needed the salt in the ocean to conduct its electric for it in order to charge its shellshockers and release the AOEs, as hand-wavy as that sounds.
This is what made Ivory Lagi - A primarily terrestrial Lagiacrus that could not only use its electric on land but made it even stronger than a regular Lagiacrus's.
Then in Generations they put Lagiacrus on land and gave it spinning thunder balls and lightning AOEs no bother.
I think Wilds will take an inbetween stance. I don't see them giving it attacks that are too disconnected from releasing charge from its back, but I also think they'll maybe have it jump into the water to charge itself?

Not in the third gen games, iirc. It could use them on land in GU, though, and on one hand that game messes with canon a fair bit, so you could argue it doesn't count. But at the same time,
Wilds is already doing a similar retcon by putting Lagiacrus in a freshwater environment, and(EDIT: I forgot Lagi HAS been in a freshwater map before) I doubt the devs would remove all attacks involving the shockers from the single most hyped iteration of the monster so far.Ivory Lagiacrus, on the other hand, could always use its shockers on land.

We're all predicting Lagiacrus is gonna defeat Uth Duna for a lot of reasons (type match up, closer weight class, giving a fan fav his long awaited return with respect, etc)
But I think the absolute funniest outcome is if they add Lagi in... and give him a turf war where he also beats the crap out of Mizutsune. Like poor fox just got brough to Wilds to get disrespected by everyone xD

The fact some people thought Mizu was gonna beat my goat Uth Duna was crazy, like how effective can bubbles be against a monster cover in water

They've been really scared to have similar tier monsters beat each other and not just tie. Odogaron ties with Glavenus. Velkhana can fend off Nergigante with foot taps. They refused to dictate a pecking order for the main three pseudo-wyverns. Truly I'm stunned they committed to a victor here cause even against Rathalos, who should have way less advantage than Mizutsune's agility, Uth Duna only ties.

Rathalos has way more of an advantage in that he flies. He should be at worst tying that fight.

Yeah but the Apexes aren't similar tiers. Apexes (and Gore) are 6 star monsters, Rathalos/Mizu are 5 stars. It made some degree of sense that Odogaron tied with Glavenus since both are the same star rank plus they show off Glavenus's strength and Odogaron's agility.
Frankly, the actual weird part is that they made Rathalos look like it tied even though Mizu loses and the internal matchup says Rathalos is the loser/defender of that turf war.
It's not so much that there's an internal pecking order as much as "all monsters of X rank are the same rough strength ignoring individual lore matchups and exceptional circumstances". If Velkhana wasn't a flagship it'd get beat up just as badly as Teostra when fighting Nergigante for example (and the devs even said they didn't want Nergigante overshadowing Velkhana in Iceborne). Odds are it probably will get beat up the next time both are in the same game.

Hey do you have the source for the devs saying they didn't want velkhana overshadowed by nergigante?

Dive to Iceborne's dev notes when talking about Ruiner. Here's a translated section that includes it, just Ctrl+F for Ruiner Nergigante.

I do like how the favorite three invaders have a rock paper scissors thing going on even though their turf wars do technically tie.
Deviljho tries his usually brute force tactics with Rajang by dragging him a bit but gets out powered and punched to the ground in a much more impressive show of force by Rajang. Wish they had a beam clash when Rajang opens Jhos mouth.
On the other hand, Jho pretty much has Bazel at its mercy the whole fight with bazel's only retaliation being blowing its bombs all at once after getting rag dolled and pinned on the ground.
Lastly we have Rajang trying to man handle Bazel like it does with rathalos by grabbing it and slamming it the ground but before it can do the second slam, Bazel's falling bombs let it break free and then it dive bombs Rajang afterwards.
It shows a neat dynamic with all three. Rajang is the strongest and can out muscle Jho but in return its a glass cannon that can't tank the falling bombs unlike Jho who shrugs off the falling bombs from Bazel. Bazel is the tankiest and that allows it to hold out long enough for its bombs to create an opening like with Rajang but that doesn't work on Jho whose not the tankiest nor the strongest but has a good mix to still tank and over power Bazel.
Imo that's a good way to show "winners" and "loser" in these turfwars.

Way back before Mizu and Lagi were officially revealed, leak sub suggested a quest with all three. Sadly optional quests are kinda whack in Wilds but it'd be one hell of an event quest.
Lord of the Forest, Lord of the Seas, Lord of the Bathtub.

Isn’t Espinas’ title Lord of the Forest?
IMO Apex of the Forest makes more sense, or even just Scarlet Apex

Lagi: lol, lmao

Result: Uth Duna has 3 wounds on its belly, Lagiacrus has its splines bent out of shape/broken

It's a little weird that both additions for the first two TUs will primarily show up in the forest (isn't it more of a jungle tho?). It already seemed like a fairly crowded map with how many monsters could show up there.

Poor Mizu, it definitely outclassed Uth Tuna in speed in their fight, unfortunately for Mizu it got choke slammed into the ground

If they gonna give Lagiacrus a recycled mitzune vs urfI gonna be so disappointed

I’m pretty confident Lagiacrus will be in the oilwell basin. That spot has some surprisingly deep pools of water.

u/Ill_Tooth3741 16h ago
It's pretty much confirmed that it will be introduced in the Scarlet Forest, partially since the teaser showed it there. I could maybe see it being in Oilwell as well, though; and honestly, with the vague undersea theming of the area, I think it would've made a bit more sense than the Forest.

We saw what a "canonically tweaking from being in heat" Mizutsune could do against Uth (which is to say not much dumbass thought the soap and water tactics that work on Zinogre could apply to aquatic foes lmao)
Now with lagi I just KNOW Uth is gonna get zapped but the real question is will it try to make lagi flat before getting zapped?
