More than half of America's against him too

Sorry, but no. Unless you mean to include Canada and Mexico, you don’t get to claim this. Not after the election result last November. A plurality actively voted for Trump, but a majority was cool enough with what is now happening to not vote against it. Nobody from the outside is shocked by what’s happening. We tried to warn you (not you personally, but you, Americans). We did warn you. And only a third of those who were eligible to vote (not even a third) voted against it. I do sympathise with those of you who voted against this, who tried to avert this, but you saying that more than half of America’s against him too is simply not true.

And if it was, I’d have to ask: where are your mass protests? How is your country not standing still right now? How come the Nazis in 1930s Germany faced bigger public opposition than Trump and his minions do right now?

I swear the only thing that’s more disappointing than Trump’s return to the White House is the less than lukewarm reaction by the American public.

Please, forgive me if I voice strong doubts right now. The American oppositional response to Trump is an immense disappointment!

You're incorrect for one major reason. The turnout for Democrats opposed to trump was almost 20 MILLION less this election and the biggest factor was the disappointment in the Democrat alliance with Israel over the massacre in Gaza. There was a massive campaign of "don't vote if you support Gaza" which led to Trump securing an identical turnout to 2020 and Harris losing a significant amount of certain swing states. Those people are probably really regretting staying home now but, that doesn't mean that they didn't oppose Trump then and still do today. They were just convinced that not voting was the humanitarian choice.

Nah, that’s not enough. In fact, that’s even dumber. Everyone and their grandma knew the Republicans would be just as bad on Israel and Gaza as the Democrats, if not worse. If an issue is handled badly by all available options you have to simply disregard that issue from your decision making process. Everyone knew what would happen if Trump won again. Seriously everyone. Staying home quite simply is not an option in such a situation.

“Aw shucks, my country just elected Hitler. I didn’t vote, and many others didn’t either. I simply really hate SPD’s stance on pensions, so I figured I’d not vote for them. Of course I hate what Hitler is doing to German democracy and the Jews, but man, the pension stuff really was a valid reason to stay away from such a crucial election too.”

The choice for this election was very simple: fascism or democracy. Republicans were kind enough to tell you about it before, in not one but two extensive agendas (Project 2025 and Agenda 47). Both were public before. The signs were all there. The fascist moves had happened over the course of the previous eight years. So the choice really was Fascism or Democracy. It was also clear that only Trump or Harris would win.

Everyone knew Trump wasn’t the guy standing for democracy. Under those circumstances you simply vote for the candidate that will preserve democracy. And those who didn’t do that are complicit in what is happening now.

Framing this differently is quite simply insane.

I know! The response I got when arguing this point was just "I can't stand voting for either party, I'm disgusted by both of them right now"

Literally the dumbest response in the world.

Agreed. Take the 40% of the people I grew up with who are pro trump, the 20% who had this view and didn't vote, and trump almost won Minnesota. The longest running blue state in the US. Gaza had a massive impact. Not as large as misinformation and propaganda on the right but it was still huge. Combine that Elon literally bought THE swing state, Pennsylvania, by paying people to vote red. Elon is another huge part of the problem.
