I think Elon is asking for people to personally express their hatred to him directly, face to face. That way he can feel our sincerity. It would be a shame for him to think this was about a paycheck. If he wants to double check, he can ditch the teams of body guards and secret service agents he’s hiding behind and come greet the public himself.
From what I can see his tweets are related to a post by a journalist (apparently worked for WSJ but the only article I could find in a respected publication was Marie Claire saying how she hated being married to a Muslim guy and then married a white guy from the US army) where she says these campaigns are organised by groups like Indivisible and MoveON and her claim seems to be they pay to print placards I guess...like these seem like normal civic organisations to me. Probably use the funds they get donated for transport, phone calls etc.
Which is nothing out of the ordinary, it’s called organising a protest. The organisation behind Tesla Takedown (troublemakers) also told the guardian all they have is $3,500 in the bank account, so that would be 17,50 for each of the 200 protests (for one week). That’s not gonna produce a big crowd if they come for the money.
Who cares if it's real if your entire base believes it. "The party of common sense" doesn't need proof of anything. If it seems true and someone keeps repeating it, it must be true!

Still waiting for one shred of evidence that they are paid. My hate for Elon was and is free.
