Because they're dumbasses who don't understand that tariffs won't bring manufacturing back. It's not short term pain for long term gain it's long term pain for nothing but more long term pain and a worse economy.

Elon wants people to have more kids so he can put them in the mines in six years when theyāre poor and desperate. Thatās how he was raised, thatās what he knows.

u/DarthButtz 1d ago
But he won't put HIS kids in the mines, he needs to keep them around for human shields.

Absolutely. That's kind of the Republican dream these days, to create a class of people so desperate and hopeless that they'll do the worst jobs for slave wages, too terrified to stand up for themselves and demand safe working conditions and reasonable compensation. They want a return to the Gilded Age, not the Golden Age
4
u/Plantwork 11h ago edited 11h ago
Yep. Actively destroying history and education so in a few years they can say āhey, look how good you have it!ā While everyone eats slop and works 18 hours a day. Itās sick. The billionaire class has no intention of making lives easier for people. Elon Musk is ground zero on that account. Burn them.

I got into a discussion with a MAGAt just yesterday, I said the tariffs are now in effect, now everyone can watch as prices rise
Their response was, "Eggs got cheaper! How do you explain that if the Tariffs are supposed to raise prices?"
These are the people who still believe Trump is a business genius
7
u/SushiGirlRC 16h ago
Blargh. They're so incredibly stupid. Should've asked him if all our eggs are imported.
6
u/RevolutionOk1406 15h ago
I said "you know eggs are a domestic product"
The response was, ""Why are you avoiding explaining why eggs are not going up in price"
I just can't bring myself to keep trying to communicate with these people
4
u/SushiGirlRC 12h ago
I think you used words that he didn't understand. Like domestic & product lol.

u/Sigmundschadenfreude 1d ago
It will do worse than not bring manufacturing back. It will get rid of foreign manufacturing as US markets dry up. Workers will be fired. Maybe some businesses will closed. When Trump abandons his tariffs in a year because they were a dismal failure like last time, that manufacturing capacity will not magically reappear and prices will remain higher on affected goods.
3
u/InsaneCheese 11h ago
They'll also have a year of watching the government lock up and send foreigners to whichever jail of the day they're currently using. Then they'll lose the information on who got sent were etc etc.
I don't think that's going to inspire confidence in foreign businesses to send people (who seemingly have a good chance of just going missing, never to be seen again) to oversee, manage or educate Americans on how to make their goods.
12
u/RockleyBob 23h ago
I suppose hypothetically it could be long term pain for small gain in domestic manufacturing, provided CEOs actually believed tariffs would remain in place for many years.
Even then, it would be a long time before funding could be secured, plans made, construction completed, and new hubs made operational.
No one, however, would actually place billions on a bet that Trump and whoever comes after him will be consistent about anything. He hasnāt even kept his own tariffs in place, let alone pressure his successor to do so.
Any lucid CEO is waiting this out, not pivoting to onshore production.
9
u/-XanderCrews- 21h ago
Likeā¦you want to bring jobs back, ok. Where are the programs and policies to do that. Which jobs are you trying to get back? How will these tariffs do what you want them to do? Will any of the tariff money go to the people of the United States in any way or is this just tax breaks? Why isnāt a single Republican voter asking themselves these questions?
20
u/picardo85 1d ago
Tax cuts will do no person any good if they don't have an income anymore...

He is evil crashing the economy when you are rich create a great opportunity to buy low. He will become richer. His action with doge is there to secure elon's money and in turn Elon is getting government funds for random bullshit and space stuff.
If you consider that he is just greed incarnate everything seems logical

It does not almatter if he gets richer. He intends to stay in office and get paid tribute... I mean "gratuities" (thank you Supreme Court)... So he will have power and a stream of income and, best of all, being the executive head of goverment will insulate him from any lifestyle changes his dystopian policies will create.
See "Putin" for details.

You can really tell who has been looking at the stock market with these types of posts. +2/-2 has been the new normal in terms of volatility ever since trump talked about tariffs in February. Tomorrow is probably going to be a bloodbath though, I wonder if a circuit breaker will trip.

we have a try hard trump (peter dutton) going up for election in Australia in a month or so. He is play by play emulating and kissing trumps feet like a bald orange simp while bending over to the richest person in Australia.

What I hate about Trump is he takes an idea that could be good and fucks it up so hard that it turns everyone against the good idea.
Tariffs could work if they were targeted in certain sectors to boost particular US industries and if they were paired with a stronger federal government that invested more in infrastructure, in addition to a clear and coherent industrial policy that helped build industry domestically and supported the working class. Because yes, tariffs will raise the price of goods, but if jobs are being brought back to America and those jobs pay a living wage, then it's not the end of the world.
The fundamental problem with our economy is frequently framed as healthcare, education, and housing have become too expensive. The reality is that those are the only things you can't make in a factory in a third world country and ship here. Offshoring all our industrial jobs has made everything else so cheap that we've become complacent with making less money. Tariffs are going to be necessary to bring those jobs back and boost the wages of the working class, but the tariffs being on, then off, then on again, the randomness of what countries they apply to, the across the board tariffs on literally everything, even stuff we cannot produce domestically, the chaos and complete lack of an economic vision, it's all a complete mess.
Democrats are always whatever the opposite of Trump is. My fear is they will become anti-oligarchy, which is good, but confusingly also anti-tariffs in general, which is just another way of being pro-big business. It'll be just as confused.

u/pqoeirurtylaksjdhgf 15h ago
What currency and language is that?
1
u/ManOfCaerColour 9h ago
Currency is shown on the graph, is USD (United States Dollars.)
Language is a Cyrillic based one. Normally, I'd say Russian, but the poster has an Estonian Flag, so it may be one of the Baltic Dialects (Estonian is a Finnic language, so it's not Estonian).
1
u/pqoeirurtylaksjdhgf 9h ago
Why do Estonians care about America
1
u/ManOfCaerColour 8h ago
Because they're NATO members, have benefitted from American influence since the collapse of the USSR, and many view (or viewed until Trump) America as their protector from Russian colonialism.
1
1
u/Jungiandungian 2h ago
The thing is, if you want to bring back manufacturing to the US and reduce globalization as a goal, I may not agree with it but I can understand it. But that takes AT LEAST 5-10 years to build factories and infrastructure to support it, and would be done in steps. Not just tariffs that rank the economy overnight and saying yay America. For fucks sake.
1
u/nanotasher 17h ago
I just love capitalism. Now that all products will be made in the USA, manufacturing companies will be allowed to cut whatever corners they want to produce them, and charge whatever they want customers to pay for them.
EPA is gone, clean water isn't necessary, food isn't a human right, the climate is back to normal. I just love capitalism.

u/Reditor-Jul-250698 1d ago
This is what Americans want. They want a dictatorship, they got it, and they don't care how much it costed them.
13
u/sipsredpepper 1d ago
Not all of us wanted this. Plenty of us voted for better.
-4
u/Garbarrage 23h ago
Some of you voted for better. Plenty implies enough or a sufficient amount, which obviously isn't the case.
8
u/sipsredpepper 23h ago
Sorry I wasn't literal enough. I fucking tried anyway, sorry I didn't do well enough.
I'm super glad that the world is totally cool with acting like I asked for any of this or let any of it happen like it was fine. Do you even give a shit about those of us who well might become victims despite voting for a better future or is it just going to be shitting on us as a whole as though we've earned "just desserts" ?
-5
u/Garbarrage 23h ago
It's not all about you. When someone says "this is what Americans wanted" they are correct. Just because you didn't want it does not change that fact.
This has fundamentally changed how the world sees America and Americans as a result. The damage is done. The bridges have been burned.
My best hope now is that the EU follows though and stops relying on the US, challenges for leadership, increases military and industrial investment, and finally cuts the apron strings with the US.
We allowed ourselves to become too exposed to your basket case of an economy/culture. We should treat it as a lesson and move on.
4
u/sipsredpepper 23h ago edited 23h ago
I know damn will it isn't all about me, but you don't see me shitting on citizens of the UK over what Brexit has done to them, or on Mexico for what Cartels have done, on South Africa for what Debeers has done.
Humans are individuals that can form a greater whole but each one is still a person that matters. I'm not just upset about the way people look at me and go "lol sucks to be American", I'm upset about the way people can look at an entire nation filled with people who are actively trying to fix this now and fought to try and prevent it and telling them "lol sucks to be American". Like everybody else, we're fucking people damn it. And you can criticize and be upset about this without also shitting on every one of us. Some of my friends are afraid for their citizenship, their lives, or the safety of their marriages. They're Americans too.
Saying "this is what America wanted" is a statement that ignores the existence of millions of people who very seriously didn't want this and voted against it. Just because we didn't win doesn't mean we suddenly changed our mind and wanted this. America has this result, we aren't a fucking hive mind that chose it unanimously, and it is not fair to view us as ubiquitously trash.

The stock market is not the economy
1
u/jorge20058 17h ago
The stock market literally IS the economy, companies valuations fall and rise depending on the economy which is mirrored by the stock market, whenever the stock market crashes a recession approaches shortly after, a crash of 2 trillion dollars in unheard off, the crash that caused the Great Depression for the US is valued at 528 billion dollars in todays money, the US is quite literally a crumbling empire with no allies left, and will take generations to recover from this, if it even can.
-2
u/Choc0latina 17h ago
Companies valuation are connected to the stock market, but that has nothing to do with the well being of common workers. Only 62% of Americans own stock, which means there is a significant portion of Americans who are unaffected by the stock market. Companies have been making record profits but they still pay their workers poorly so the workers never benefit from those profits. Stock market doesnāt matter when the average American worker is just tying to pay their bills. Only short term investors actually care about the volatility of the stock market.
In fact, in the most recent recession we had, the stock market actually rose by an average of 30%. This alone is an indicator that the stock market is not the economy.
You mention the Great Depression, but that was at a time when almost all Americans were participating interns stock market, so it actually was connected tot he economy at the time. This time is much different because the wealth inequality is so serve that a lot of Americans donāt have any money left over to invest in the stock market.
2
u/SushiGirlRC 16h ago
401k? Usually stock related.
-2
u/Choc0latina 16h ago
401ks are long term investments so theyāre not affected by short term volatilities in the stock market. Even if someone is retiring soon, their 401k wouldāve been on the stock market for so long that this drop would not be enough to wipe out all of their gains over the past few years. Only short term investors really lose out from this drop in the stock market.
