There are even people acknowledging how horrible it is for the U.S. economy, but repeating Trump admin propaganda that "we're doing to them what they do to us".

I feel like a big part of the communication problem is that Democrats stick pretty close to the facts most of the time whether they want to or not because they walk the "decorum" tightrope. Meanwhile, the GOP accept a wide spectrum of "alternative facts", tell all their voters and their sometimes conflicting views, "Oh, you're all so right," and then continue serving their own personal agenda regardless.

Obviously, there is only one reality, so the party that favors a single set a provable facts is clearly the rational one, but when your party is a shit of fools where nobody fact-checks the leadership, anybody's opinion is as "viable" as another's, even those clearly steeped in delusion.
