I'm a conservative and unequivocally believe that trump should be impeached. I also don't believe conservative is the most accurate term for the man or his party, nor the people who vote for them.

Well whatever you are barely exists in America, since 85-90% of Republicans support Trump and Democrats aren't conservative

I'm not in America so I couldn't say. I can tell you from the outside looking in the democrats look like the conservatives while the republicans largely look like right wing extremists rather than conservatives. They don't even seem to have many conservative policies.

For sure. Yeah I’m talking about republicans basically. I think this post in general was geared at American conservatives, so generally probably not aimed at you

That'd probably fair, it just irks me when people say conservative but mean republicans. I agree with the guy you replied to that this is not a conservative problem, it is an alt-right one.

Well in america, alt right means republican, and republican means conservative. its a garbled mess but thats just the current discourse

While I do understand that, and I'm in no way trying to blame you, I do feel that more clarity in the meaning of political terms overall causes more useful discussion. For example in America it seems that liberal, socialist, and conservative are all dirty words to at least some people. It just feels like we've all got to start communicating better with eachother in terms of politics, and it's got to start somewhere.

I'm not trying to pressure you to use the word republican instead of conservative when speaking about the GOP, and I do know it is common parlance in America. I just think we can do better to achieve effective and agreeable solutions if we have less exclusive discussion and bring people together (on an international front because there are similar issues everywhere, not a blame America game)

Honestly republican should be a dirty word

Yeah, like I said, republican should be a dirty word as should Nazi. I just don't think conservative should be, nor is it equivalent to the two.

i suppose. Not sure your distinction actually matters

You're probably right that us 2 do not matter in the grand scheme, but I'd rather not be a part of the problem.

I don't think the problem is equating conservatives and republicans... thats pretty consistently true. And a really tiny whataboutism.

I think most conservative members of the international public would vote democrat. The democrats are, by any non American standard, a conservative party. The republicans are far right. America has no progressive party.
