SF chronicle endorses Taylor

Post image
42 Upvotes

Based on the article, it seems like the paper interviewed all of the candidates and found Taylor’s policies to be more detailed and less based on getting bailed out by the state/federal gov which will be hard during a time of austerity, Trump, and lower tax revenues. Seems like this race is going to come down to the wire. What do folks think about the endorsement?

STATEMENT FROM LOREN TAYLOR: DOXXING IS UNACCEPTABLE SO LET'S CONDEMN THE TACTICS NOT EACH OTHER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEMENT FROM LOREN TAYLOR: DOXXING IS UNACCEPTABLE SO LET'S CONDEMN THE TACTICS NOT EACH OTHER

"I’ve just seen an email from Barbara Lee that says personal information about her was made public – that she was doxxed. She is right to complain about being doxxed — it is dangerous, and I share her condemnation of that kind of tactic. Absolutely. My family and I have been victims of doxxing and I have spoken out about it as recently as in a tweet on March 1st. In 2020, an unnamed individual posted my home address online, and protestors marched on my home when I stood against a Council vote to defund the police.

But here’s what’s troubling about how Barbara Lee raised this. In her email subject line, she said: “A line has been crossed by my opponent.” Barbara is wrong to say this, because it’s not true. It’s not something I’ve done. It’s not something I would ever do. It's unfair and dishonest for Barbara Lee to assign responsibility for an act I had nothing to do with and firmly condemn.

We can condemn these tactics. But we don’t need to condemn each other. It’s disappointing to see that, instead of debating the real issues that affect Oakland, the supposed front-runner is resorting to these unfounded personal attacks. Oakland deserves a more respectful conversation."

Leigh Hanson, Office of the Mayor: “use BP as tokens”

Post image

Really interesting to see these handwritten notes regarding the anti-recall campaign from Thao’s (white) former Chief of Staff who is still employed by the City. Especially the reference to “us[ing] BP as tokens.” I wonder what her current boss, Kevin Jenkins, thinks about this? Or Barbara Lee, who has her listed as a supporter on her website?

Local news

Where do you like to go for local news? I've got my places for national/international news, but I really don't know where to get info on oakland/bay area.

i'm especially interested in who's been covering the mayoral election because i don't like things about either candidate and am really on the fence but i also haven't been watching it very closely.

If you are an Oakland (or Bay Area) native, Freaky Tales is the greatest movie ever made. And you must see at the Grand Lake Theater.

Advice Looking for local painter (artist)

I'd like to get a painting (maybe digital on canvas, but leaning painting) of me, hubby, and baby.

I used to find art easily through iced insta and Etsy, but etsy is all junk now and I deleted Instagram (way happier by the way).

Anyone to have recommendations or a site? My budget is a couple hundred. I lean towards vibrant and less into cartoons or line drawings. Honestly, my style is more old school like Renoir or Monet, but I know someone hand painting in that style is worth way more money than I'm able to pay.

When to arrive at Laney Flea?

Going to Laney Flea market but have never been. What's the best time to go to get some goodies? My instinct is to go as early as possible but don't want to arrive before vendors are done setting up.

EDIT: went by at 7:30 and there was nothing there. Maybe it closed down?

Underrated queer and BIPOC-owned businesses in Oakland?

I'm a creator and storyteller who highlights small businesses in Oakland.

I’m on a mission to spotlight the most vibrant, underrated spots in the city—especially those run by queer and BIPOC owners who pour love into our community. Think that cozy bookstore run by a lesbian couple? The family-owned pupuseria that’s been a neighborhood pillar for 20 years? The rad queer-owned plant shop? I want to hear about ‘em ALL.

Drop your faves below (bonus points if they’re a little off the beaten path!) 🌟

Eggs in stock?

Do we know if Lakeshore Trader Joe's or Adam's Point Wholefoods have eggs in stock as of today 04/05/2025?

Edit:

Thank you all so much for this info, its extremely helpful. So I wasn't just gonna sit here, and I said to myself - self why don't you call and see if any of these stores have eggs instead of waiting for people to chime in (get off your pity box LOL).

So I called TJ's Lakeshore and they said they were out and then I called Whole Foods Adams Point and they said they have them in stock. I picked up a doz for $5.49 from there the prices only went up but they are a far sight better than this Lucky's, which I detest by the way. Their prices have sat at $9.49 for the better part of 3 months now, so I avoid them like the plague.

Again thank you everyone for this wonderful info!

Best!

Housing Moving to Oakland Neighborhood advice!

Hey fellas!

My partner and I are going to be moving to Oakland later this month and we are torn on different neighborhoods/locations.

Some background, we are originally from Philadelphia which is our dear home, we have lived in LA the past year but just haven't jived with the life style there. We came to visit SF/Oakland a few times this past year and loved it. We stayed in Temescal which was beautiful and felt like Philly in the best of ways!

My partner will be working at UCSF Benioff Oakland, I will be commuting to financial district in SF for work.

For neighborhoods we've narrowed it to:

Temescal, Piedmont Avenue, Adams Point. I kind of love the look of Adams Point/ the Uptown adjacent area (think 24th and Broadwayish?) But we just haven't visited the location so are unsure of if it fits our needs.

Budget is anywhere from $2000-3000 but flexible.

We are looking for a solid balance of:

-Walkability/bikeability to fun stuff and grocery stores and nature

-Solid Public transportation/ Close enough to Bart for commuting

We love movies, art and music. Being close to some good restaurants/bars would be nice.

Appreciate any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations! Thanks ya'll!

Rare look into the old home at Yerba Buena Vista Point on YBI

I have been riding my bike out to the end of the bay bridge for years now and never seen any signs of life in the old home that sits by the viewpoint, adjacent to the mobile bathrooms. Yesterday though the shades were up and the gate was open. A construction employee saw me poking around and invited me to take a look inside. Evidently they're using it as a temp office while they perform some construction up the hill on YBI. I took a few pics and wanted to share with the community since others have likely seen the house and wondered what it's for. Or maybe not! Either way here are a few images of the interior. Cheers,
