Federal Politics and this sub / La politique fédérale et notre communauté
As originally announced here:
Some upcoming changes to r/Ontario
People are asking some questions about what is in scope for r/Ontario concerning the Federal elections. In short, pure federal politics are out of scope for r/Ontario.
This means that International trade, tariffs, federal politics and the federal elections are not in scope UNLESS they have a DIRECT and clear link to Ontario, an Ontario riding or an Ontario MP/candidate personally..
The classic example is Pierre Polievre, who is an MP for the riding of Carleton. Polievre's activities as head of the CPC are NOT in scope for this sub. Anything he does as the local MP for his riding would be in scope.
For discussion about federal politics, there are:
r/canada , r/CanadaPolitics and r/onguardforthee
Tel qu'annoncé ici: Some upcoming changes to r/Ontario

Question Can I rat out my workplace?
This is the worst job I've ever had and am soon leaving- I am missing pay because I'm unable to punch in early even when getting called in early (it's not a big deal I won't go to them just for that..) however- my boss is refusing to file my ROE after 5 months of asking and giving me 0 shifts without notice. She puts out the schedule 20 minutes before a shift starts (I know both these things are illegal) Staff steals food and alcohol, drinking behind the bar while working because the owner is never here. I can never get a hold of her. Normally I'd just leave peacefully but the level of disrespect feels like a slap in the face and I will do everything I can to deal with it.

Discussion Do my car insurance rates increase due to how much money overall the company loses due to other people's accidents?
Is it true that your car insurance increases due to how many people insured with your company get into accidents?
They're a company who need to make money and if everyone is getting into accidents they increase everyone's rates so they can make up the money.
True or false?

Question Can I get out of a 1 year lease early? Please help
Hello, I am month 5 into a 1 year lease in Ontario. It is a basement unit of a house with tenants upstairs.
Although I am happy with the unit itself, the police are ALWAYS here, 4/5 of the upstairs tenants are being subletted to and one of them told me the other three were using cocaine.
There is constant arguing and fighting upstairs, and I often have to hear all of it-- including at 2am when I'm trying to sleep. And when I finally managed to catch up on some sleep, I WAKE UP TO MY LANDLORD STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF MY LIVING ROOM STARING AT ME. No notice given. I CERTAINLY did not give him permission to enter. He is usually quite nice but this is a REGULAR OCCURRENCE no matter HOW MUCH I try to assert myself telling him to give me notice before he enters, and I have post traumatic stress as a result of past events where people have been in my personal spaces without permission.
I feel unsafe and trapped where I am. And, above all -- becoming very frustrated.
Does anyone have any advice or perhaps experienced something similar?
I'm in Barrie if that changes anything.

Beautiful Ontario Surviving and thriving in the freezing cold - an introduction to winter camping in Ontario

Picture this: a world blanketed in pristine snow, where the air is crisp and the stars shine with an almost unbelievable brilliance. Most of us wouldn't consider venturing out into that stillness to camp between November and April, right? But imagine trading the press of summer crowds, the ravenous bugs, for the serene beauty of a winter landscape. That's what winter camping offers. 🏕️
In this talk, we'll explore making the most of the season, from simple techniques using gear you likely already own or can borrow, to the cozy comfort of a "glamping" experience with a hot tent and crackling wood stove. 🔥 Where do you go winter camping in Ontario? We'll explore and show you the best spots.
We'll discover how the quiet solitude can be incredibly restorative, and unlock a whole new world of winter adventures. It's about finding a different kind of peace, and perhaps, a little bit of magic, in the heart of winter. ❄️

Discussion Anyone here take meds for insomnia, anxiety, or depression?
Hi there guys, I'm feeling pretty down. Not exactly related to Ontario par typical posts but I'm just feeling so low and invisible.
I'm starting Trazodone tomorrow for insomnia that's been persisting for a week now with no signs of improving and it's all because I was on Finasteride and it suddenly caused insomnoa that's not getting better. Been off it 5 days now. Been getting 1-2 hours of sleep daily or less for 5 days now.
I dont want to get into the medical history behind this, but maybe someone here can make me feel better in saying what they take for their mental health conditions. I feel alone I won't lie.
I look to my family, friends, and people around me living happy lives and they dont have to live the curse of insomnia or any other mental health condition.
I can't go back and hate myself for taking the hairloss drug, I gotta accept it, and move forward for how to treat my insomnia that's severe.
I'm only 24 and fear for the future. I really pray and hope I get out of this withut taking sleep meds forever.
So I ask, Ontarians, do you take anything to help you with your sleep or other conditions? I guess I just want to feel validated and hearing people's experiences will make me feel a tiny bit better, as odd as it sounds.
Thank you, hope you understand.
Edit: Thanks so much guys, i didnt expect this post to have lots of comments. I appreciate yall, making me realize im not alone, and we all have our own battles, some similarly to mines. <3

Question Tenant questions
We are tenants of a condo for the past two years, first year we had a written standard lease agreement for an amount of 2300. After our year lease was up we were called by the landlord and told we needed to start paying $200 rent increase more immediately each much to begin a new year lease. We were a bit scared as we weren’t ready to move out and we really wanted to stay in our current place. Out of fear we sent the money ever since that year for 9 months. Moving forwRd the landlord told us she wanted a verbal agreement for the next year and we would go month to month. We agreed and continued to send the extra money. Then we had an issue with the washing machine where it was flooding and causing the floor boards to rise. We immediately contacted the condo management and they sent out the super and their plumbers. They contacted the landlord and told her what was happened and needed her consent to continue with their plumbers. Fortunately it didn’t cause any damage to the units below or anything outside of our condo. The plumbers fixed the issue and then the landlord was not concerned about the damage of the floorboards and water damage around the leak from the washing machine. We were very upset with the landlords neglect and refusal to fix the damage. We started to smell a moldy musky smell and decided we needed to leave the unit asap. For context there was so much damage caused by the previous tenant when we moved in ( we took pictures that are dated of everything ). Missing paint and hanging LED lights that caused paint damage, scratches to the flooring, a hole in the bathroom door, bedroom door falling off the hinges and burnt stove top. We contacted the landlord 60 days prior to our intended move out date and told her all the details and dates we would be leaving. We had our real estate agent call her and tell her as we were looking for a new place and we used her as a reference. She then contacted us and said “are you leaving the unit?” we told her our intentions over text and she said “i’ll get back to you”. She didn’t reach out for a whole month. And then says “you cannot leave you did not give proper notice you needed to submit an N9 form and you will have to pay another month. She contacted us and told us this a month after we told her we wanted to leave in 60 days. She then had her real estate agent email us and say we didn’t not give proper notice and that they would go to the tenant board. I submitted the n9 form 30 days late because she our departure is “unofficial” and she needed the notice. This all seems super sketchy and scummy to me as I believe she knows she won’t be able to rent the unit to someone else because we have been overpaying and it NEEDS repairs for the price she’s charging. I believe she’s trying to scare us into staying and paying her an extra month and i’m really terrified of what she might try to do to us. We have dated pictures and text messages if she tries to claim we made the damages. What should I do? We’ve already talked to our realtor and he said she illegally raised our rent because she didn’t give us 90 days notice and did not submit an N1 form. We were scared of losing our place and thought we had to pay it or we would be homeless. This is our first time renting and I believe she has fully taken advantage of us. It’s an overpayment of close to 1500 at this point and she’s still demanding we stay and pay another months rent in full or she’s going to the tenancy board. I am trying my best but talking to her gives me such bad anxiety and I really don’t have the money to pay 2 months rent at two different locations. I’m scared and don’t know what to do?

Landlord/Tenant i'm freezing, help!
Recently moved into a basement apartment, person upstairs controls the heat and said he needs it cold. I turn the heat up to 20 or 22 and it almost always gets turned down, landlord told me to basically suck it up and that he doesn't want us to fight over the heat. I have bought a space heater (which he was hesitant to let me use due to the price) which doesn't warm a room, let alone the whole apartment. Also bought a heating pad, a heated blanket, heated slippers and i've been bundling up.. Yet i'm still frozen every single day and night. I run the heater nearly 24/7 and my nose and throat hurt in the morning because of how dry they are. I am not one to complain nor do I want bad blood with my neighbour, what else can I do? :( i feel so stupid even asking because i know what people will say but i need help cuz im too nervous to mention it to anyone.

Question Does OHIP cover physicals?
Does OHIP cover routine physicals and screening? I'm nearing 40 and generally in good health. My work had a nurse come in and do a biometrics clinic - blood sugar, pressure, cholesterol, etc. She said I have an irregular beat but nothing major to worry about and to just mention it next time I'm at my doc. Well I basically never go to my doc unless I need a referral for something.
I'm curious about a general physical, my heat beat I mentioned, cancer and disease screening, etc.
