Build Noob mistake
Hey everyone, just wanted to share a recent facepalm moment from my colony.
So every three cycles, my base would mysteriously flood with puddles. No biggie, right? I just kept mopping—figured some stressed dupes were either crying or peeing themselves. It happens.
But after 30 cycles of tireless cleaning and desperately trying to figure out where this phantom liquid was coming from... I thought I cracked the case! My electrolyzers were somehow getting a water + mercury cocktail. Gross. Slapped on a liquid filter and felt like a genius.
...20 more cycles later, puddles are still showing up.
Finally, I go to upgrade some of my electrical wires—because why not, right? But nothing's getting built. Why? "Awaiting delivery... of mercury."
Turns out I was piping hot mercury straight into my wires. MERCURY. My base was melting itself from the inside out.
Cue the frantic "cancel all" spam and quiet weeping.

Question Automation help
I'm trying to make a three door horizontal pump, where the pumping only starts if sensor A is above x and it makes a vacuum with the middle door if sensor B is above y. But I suck at more complicated automations. Can anyone help?

Question How to make this water purification setup work?
The screenshot should be self-explanatory, but those who don't get it I have a pool of brine and polluted water. I pump the water and have first pair of element sensor and shutoff to brine and send it to desalinator. I was expecting it to be similar to if-else in programming, but brine leaks to the 'else' part when brine 'if' pipe is clogged.
Note: I cut out the pipes when I saw unexpected happening. They were all connected.

Build Petroleum boiler designed

The crude oil is around 385-390C when it reaches the heat spike. I didn't realize till I made this that petroleum is at around 500 kg per time so it doesn't over pressure the liquid vent. The petroleum waterfalls into the larger holding tank when there is enough of it. You do want to keep the petroleum from touching in the different tanks to reduce heat transfer so your hot petroleum stays hot for preheating the crude oil.

Probably more piping then what I needed for cooling the petroleum but what else do you do in ONI. The cooling is because the liquid pump was overheating so I saw a way to get more power out of it and solve the heat damage problem.

My final thoughts on this, I designed and made it in game so it is a "prototype". I can already see how it could be made smaller or it could even be made slightly larger with 2 liquid pumps or more pumping petroleum to generators if you need that level of power. All in all I'm pretty happy with it and it has been running for over 500 cycles without any disruptions. For maintenance all you would need to do is deconstruct the top left tile for a dupe to have access.

Question Steam Turbine Heat Deletion not matching.
i have been experimenting with turbine for a while and my heat deleted is coming out to be 762.99125 KDTU and Heat Transfered To Turbine is 114.59875 KDTU,
i fed 40kg x 5 tiles 200 C Steam to turbine(so for 100sec)
it went from 20 C to 38.4 C
so,18.4x0.622x1000/100=114.448KDTU per sec
877.59-114.448=763.14KDTU Deleted per sec(repeated like 10 times using different material turbines also).
Can someone check in their game....

Question Some advice wanted for a relatively new player
I have less than 20 hours in this and most of them from years ago, but I'm trying to get back into it. It just seems like an overwhelming amount of things I have to manage, and I'm not sure what to focus on or whether I'm doing anything correctly. There's polluted water I can't clean up until I get water sieve which I can't research until I get the advanced bench which I can't use until I have a dupe who can do advanced research. There's carbon dioxide I can't clean except for using algae terrariums which produce polluted water with the same issue, or with a carbon skimmer I can't build until I research decontamination which has the same issue as above.
There are all these creatures roaming about and all these seeds or plants sitting on the floor that I have no idea how to make the best use of, or whether I should even be making use of them at this point. Could I click their names and see if the ingame wiki has any info? Maybe, but what if it's inaccurate? I just finished the research to build a liquid filter (which I have no reason to use, since all the dupe piss is going into two places separated from clean water I draw up) and the tooltip on it says it sends liquid "into a dedicated Filtered Output Pipe". I click that, and it just takes me to the ingame wiki page for plumbing. There is no "filtered output pipe" listed. I search the term in the research section and just get taken to the tech which unlocks the liquid filter.
After a brief scroll of this subreddit I understand that there's a particular meta established and way people like to do things, like expressing bemusement/confusion at another player for trying to process oil in a conventional way rather than "just use drekkos". I've also seen people be quite welcoming and supportive to someone who seems to be doing well for their first run.
I would appreciate guidance for what to focus on early.

Edit: I think part of it might be the fact I'm unlocking a ton of of pipes, cables and devices far quicker than I can figure out where or why to use any of them

Discussion What do you guys consider the entry points for mid and late game?
I dont really consider myself in mid game until I have decent steel production and access to plastic, and food and O2 are a non issue. Late game Im not sure about. Maybe when I have the third asteroid colonized and producing lots of refined metals.

Question Any ways to increase performace or make the game run better?
I recently really sunk my teeth into ONI, with the spaced out DLC and all, but as I approached the late game, I encountered an issue. I'm using a steamdeck to play on with a desktop setup(one of the older models, 256 GB i believe), and the game is starting to struggle to run smoothly, especially when saving. Sometimes the game just crashes or freezes my device. I'm up to 4 different planetoid colonies in my current game, and it would be a shame to have to quit until I can get a proper PC setup. I tried looking in the settings, but the options there are abysmal (only thing that helps somewhat is longer periods of time between autosaves, but that isn't ideal. Also, why can't we even change keybinds, Klei?)
Is there any way to make the game smoother, including mods or anything of the sort? Does the base game play better or is it about the same?

Discussion Whats your favorite biome to start in?
Of the 4 possible biomes to start in (sandstone, forest, swampy, and ice cave) which is your favorite? Personally, I like forests the most because aluminum is great, and the biome filter is nice!
