Meta (Plex) Got a new case for my Plex server & noticed a perfectly blank spot for a 3d printed Logo.
For anyone wondering the case is the JMCD 12S4.

For anyone wondering the case is the JMCD 12S4.
I am currently direct playing 4k remuxes and those are not ok for some family member so I will need to enable transcoding.
Wondering if I should get a Intel Arc B580 or a Nvidia Geforce RTX 4060. A 4060 Ti 16GB might be an option second hand.
I know lesser GPUs would be sufficient, but we are talking about a few bucks here so I want to buy something modern for moderate future proofing.
Currently running my server on Ubuntu.

I’m guessing that this is yet another feature that existed on the old version of the app that they’ve removed to shove the new, broken, unfinished version of the app out?
Connecting an iPad to a TV via HDMI now results in Plex essentially screen mirroring the iPad display- it doesn’t fill the TV screen anymore.
Normally you’re supposed to test the software before releasing it.

I really don’t want to see any Plex Discover crap on my home page. There’s already a dedicated Discover tab which is fine, but I don’t need it on my home page too.
Yea sure I can disable it altogether through the web app “online media sources” settings, but I’m not trying to nuke the feature completely.

Thanks.
I've got lifetime. Android with Plex running on unraid.
I haven't upgraded my server, but the android app seems fine.
I have no issues.
People hate change, I get it, and it's a passionate community.

Decided to try Ubuntu on the NUC that was previously running PMS. No reason other than to try it (Windows crashes a lot or installs updates, and the NUC is literally just used for PMS). Of course I didn't research anything before trying it out because I'm a big dummy.
Any way. I've been reading everything that seems relevant to my situation, but I'm still a bit lost. I'm thinking it's about user permissions, but I have PMS installed on the latest Ubuntu, but the media libraries are not being seen.
Those libraries are on the Synology NAS in my local network (I don't remote access). The username on the NAS isn't the default "Plex" username.
Can I just create a "Plex" user on the NAS and give full permissions to the media library? Or do I need to do something in Ubuntu to get this working? Anyone with step-by-step?
I'm trying to decide if I should buy a lifetime pass for Plex.
I have a Windows 11 machine running Plex which is my server.
I also have a Windows 11 machine connected to the TV which is the Plex client. This streams movies/shows from the Plex server all locally on my network.
I don't watch any of my content remotely nor do I use any other devices.
About the only thing I think of that lifetime gives me is hardware transcoding but as I am streaming from one Windows PC to another locally I assume that this isn't needed?

I’ve been debating whether to get a Plex Pass or not for almost two years now. I tried using Jellyfin, which is great for local networks but terrible for remote access because there’s no direct solution other than using Tailscale, purchasing a domain, or using a reverse proxy. The deadline of April 29, 2025, has finally pushed me to make a decision.
After reading countless articles, posts. I finally made a decision.

Hi all, like many of you, I’m also frustrated with this rollout like Sonos not allowing users to use the old layout.
Anyways, on a few of my movies, the metadata and matches are correct for the title, however the NEW Movie Title Artwork overlaying the picture shows it’s 3D. I do not own it in 3D. Does anyone know how to change this?
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys,
I'm having an issue with remote viewing plex. I have a decent connection and I'm the only one using it. I want to play the files at original quality without any transcoding.
For reference, i have an LG tv and when i plug the files on USB - it plays without issue.
When i use the plex app however, even using 'force direct play' , i get an error that says 'not enough cpu for transcoding'. I disable transcoding on the plex media server.
Is there a way to not use transcoding remotely, just play the original file with buffering if needed?

Hi all,
android tablet, after the app update I cannot find a way how to download a full season. What am I missing?
There used to be download button next to seasons. Now I can see download icon only on single episode.
I’m not keep on downloading 50 episodes per season manually…

Its not changing anything by transcoding 1080p/H264 --> 1080p/H264, so why is it transcoding at all and not direct streaming?

I bought a Knight Rider/Airwolf complete series combo DVD set. I started ripping the Airwolf discs, and for some reason, they play on my Plex in 16:9, instead of 4:3. The Knight Rider discs don't do this. Both sets are from the same publisher. Mill Creek, I think. I use MakeMKV for ripping, and I have never encountered this issue before. Does anyone have any insight into why this would be or how I can force it to do the proper ratio?
ETA: I played the discs in my Xbox Series X, and it plays at the appropriate ratio.

After updating my LG G1 OLED TV I cannot play any movie or series on my Plex app, I always get this message. Any idea? I tried reinstall, deleted other apps, plug out for more than 2 min to delete the cache, no chance...
I'm using my streaming box now but it was easier with the TV app.
Since having new ios app anything im watching goes so far then either stops and starts or goes back to a previous point and when i skip forward to where i originally was it pulls me back to the previous point again..

I have tried everything i can find online, but my server keeps experiencing a desync with the audio. Anyone have any ideas? It didn't use to do this until like... a week or two ago.

I am moving from iTunes to Plex. 100% of my movie files have the metadata embedded. Within the metadata I have the Title as I want it to appear, as well as a sorting title. For example, I have my MCU movies tagged with a genre of MCU. Then I have the movie's title listed as it's title, and the sorting I have set to MCU-001, MCU-002 ordering them by their release. For movies with multiple editions I may have Blade Runner I.a, Blade Runner I.b, etc in the sorting then as their title I would have Blade Runner [Theatrical], Blade Runner [Director's].
Plex does not use my local metadata, even when I chose the local files option.
Is there a way to make sure that Plex uses my file metadata? I have spent years curating my collection and I like the way movies are displayed using my metadata.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: I have also chosen the movie posters that I like for my movies and I don;t like that Plex changes them... Just another reason I want my metadata to be priortized over Plex's.

Got a bit of a weird issue.
Copied my three LoTR UHD sets. And merged the discs with MKVToolNix. Put them into Plex. But now I can't play the files properly.
If my Nvidia Shield has passthrough enabled the movie will start with audio from disc one but video from disc 2.
If passthrough is disabled and I pick any of the other audio tracks outside of the main one it does the same.
The movie only plays normal when passtheough is disabled and the main audio track is selected.
But it doesn't direct play thus using transcoding even though my network handles direct play.
I can direct play the file normally on my PC and can do the same with other UHD movies. The only one I have an issue with is the 3 LOTR movies.
Was it something I did with the merger tool? Or just something that happens with any 2 disc combined movie?

So I guess to start I only recently found out about self hosting your own media servers and became very interested. After a bit of reserve to make sure I'm even capable of doing something like this and I guess it led me down a little rabbit hole of finding out the most basic hardware I would need, buying a pc that works, finding out about other programs besides plex like jellyfin.
Right now I'm not entirely sure what option I should go with. On the one hand Jellyfin is free and open sourced but is better used as a local and takes a bit of work to run remotely.
But on the other is Plex that has been around for longer so is more fleshed out and as far as I can tell works on a lot more devices. But has I guess been going downhill recently by losing features (I have no clue what though) and lastly from how I understand it in order to remotely access the Plex server I need Plex Pass 5 a month or $120 for forever.
I'm definitely leaning toward Plex which is my I feel like it's the worst and best time. Because if I spend $120 on something that I don't end up really liking and just use Jellyfin then that's a huge loss. But I can't really do a "trial" month and only waste $5 because the price will double to $250 by the end of the month.
I’m just wondering what anyone’s thoughts are. Is Plex just that much better at remote access and a better user experience that it warrants the price tag? I’m by no means rich so if I don’t but Pass now then I will be less likely to pay $250 for it at least in the near future. If you have experience with both I’d love to hear that

Hello guys,
I hope someone will be able to help me as I am struggling with this since days. I have been looking around a lot a tried so many different ways to fix but now I am desperate :(
Situation: I am a super happy Plex user running my server and hosting my media on a Synology DS423+. As I am running out of space I need to add a second NAS (my old DS718+) leaving to it just a purely media storage role. So far so good. I set all things up and I am able to mount shared folder in my main DS423+ both via CIFS and via NFS.
Complication: despite being able to mount remote folders via SMB/CIFS and NFS both protocols and being able to browse from one NAS to the other, when I try to add a mounted shared folder into Plex library setting it will indeed see the folder, but that's it. I cannot see any subfolder nor any file in the folder itself.
What I have already tried so far: I tried to apply any potential fix that I found online without any success, such as:
My instinct tells me that it's likely to be a sort of permission issue but I really can't figure out how to fix it.
Do you have any idea or other routes to follow?
Thanks a lot

I’m one of the few who actually likes the new app but this art not being changeable is bugging me, is there any way to fix it?
r/PleX • u/Ill_Coast4048 • 5h ago
First I lost the posters and other metadata art and now films aren’t showing with their letterboxing, and audio is janky.
Have pivoted to a FireStick and hopefully Plex/Vidaa sorts itself out with an update … obvs once they’ve put the iOS app fire out.
Anyone else or just me?
