My company makes consumer electronics. We can't afford to make them in the US because there are like ten factories that can do it and they're a) busy b) expensive c) not large enough d) not interested e) etc
And those factories can now charge $1 less than it costs to import from china, and still be the cheapest option around. So, protectionist tariffs without somehow managing... capitalism... can increase the costs of both domestic goods and imports at the same time. Yay!
